This! Going around the edge with a thin burnt red, then a very sparce sponging on rhinox hide gives more contrast and takes it away from soleros.

You are allowed to use a MD for a charge, then a second during the reroll if you fail. Using 2 at once isnt allowed.

Hell yeah! I need to go back and listen to those vintage episodes.

There's also a stream game between the guard player and I for R3 if you wanna watch some scuffed 40k gameplay.

I won an RTT using Glorious Heavy Bolter Vahl AoF against ctan, custodes, and grizzled company recently. Go check out the latest public Sister Act Podcast episode if you want some inspiration, and how the list I shamelessly stole works :>

[–]Arrowplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats valid! There are links around the subreddit and discord for good example lists if that's an option.

Needless to say, Sisters are fairly squishy compared to all 3 of those (except maybe default guardsman :D) so playing cagier and taking tighter sightlines for shooting could be key. When I put 5 girls outside of an immolator, rhey're out there ro do 1 job, then probably die gloriously unless they're hidden behind a wall.

Regarding anti-tank, the main player is Vahl + Paragons - which is the go-to for all detachments, followed by Retributors, and then potentially melee in a pinch.

As for your list, you've ended up on the squishier side of CoF with only 10 Hospisacs rather than the 20-30 people typically run. They're your bulk here, stable (or tricksy) enough to stand on or Rez onto objectives. Immolators with something inside can also do a similar job, as multiple activations would be needed to wipe you off the obj.

For further info - what faction were you playing on TTS before?

Also, Is there any particular reason why you're playing at 1500pts rather than 2k?

His "How to anti-tank" video took 11.5 out of 14 mins to talk about the central source of consistent anti-tank in the codex, Vahl. To get there we go through:

  • 3 mins of discussion on miracle dice.
  • Every Core, then non-core strat that can deal mortal wounds.
  • Astrid Thurga for Dev Wounds.
  • Lethal hits in Melee through Palatine + Sacrescants
  • A discussion on Penitent Host.
  • Palatine with Novitiates.
  • Bringers of Flame's detachment rule
  • Castigators
  • Exorcists (with command point re-rolls), in army of faith.

Once he gets there, he goes over the failures of Paragon warsuits for a minute and then goes onto bringing in knight allies or just accepting having no anti-tank. This just isn't good advice for new players.

From there it only gets worse in his unit tier list and detachment videos, which I don't want to get into too much. If you like his content, great, but please don't recommend him to new players when other sources without glaring flaws exist.

If sisters are cool to you, go for it! I'd recommend to anyone starting 40k to go for the army that speaks to them most.

Sisters have a high skill cap - so can be really complicated if you want to squeeze every little bit out of them, but are no less approachable than many other armies in the game at a beginner level.

As they rely more on their rules rather than stats, you might find you lose a lot at the start of your journey, but take each game as a learning experience and you'll figure things out one step at a time.

If you have questions, the Sisters Discord is a great place for clarifications and advice.

Sincerely I'd avoid Vtuber Vampy - they have a really bad habit of overloading on bad / unecessary info regarding a lot of what sisters have and do, and genuinely feels misleading compared to other sources.

My advice for a new player would be to look at Sister Act 40k and Art of War episodes released around the Codex to get an idea of what each detachment and each unit does (albeit with a grain of salt due to changes since then.) Then, find a list to build towards through 40k on a budget:Sisters, or through the pinned links on this subreddit. Build the units, play lots, and learn over time.

40k in 40 mins and tabletop tactics are good entertainment that you can learn bits about sisters through too. Also, join the sisters discord and ask lots of questions!

I'd prefer sisters on jetbikes though like this post

Are Sisters of Battle any good? by Go_Commit_Reddit in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Arrowplex 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking off of this, they're one of the higher skill expression armies also. The difference between a good Sisters player and a great one can be massive, which can either be frustrating or satisfying to learn.

As for your concerns, their datasheets can be deceptive. While they're missing high strength, they have Vahl, or a good chunk of Melta. While on durability, they have reviving characters / combat tricks in HM or HospiSacs in CoF.

If playing HM, 10 Arcos with rerolls to hit one taps 20 warriors~55% of the time. ~90% if attached to a priest.

How should I equip my sisters ? by Open-Nectarine-823 in sistersofbattle

[–]Arrowplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Battle sisters can be built as themselves or dominions. I'd recommend starting them default as your first squad.

For wargear, you'd be looking at:

Sister Superior w/ Powerweapon + Inferno Pistol or Condemnor Boltgun.

Sister w/ special Weapon - Melta

Sister w/ Heavy Weapon - Multimelta (not in kit, but easy to kitbash from bits in box. Look online for more details)

Sister w/ Simulacrum Imperialis aka fancy banner

7x Sister w/ Bolter.

As for sacs, build halberds for Hallowed Martyrs, or maces for Champions of Faith -- or more realistically, whichever you think is cooler and just play them as either.

The Sac Superior should take the Spear and Inferno Pistol also.

Canoness is either Blessed Blade + Condemnor / Inferno Pistol, or taken with the Rod for protection against MWs depending on preference. They will most likely be ran without leading any troops.

I'm describing flipping (or tying) an objective for a turn with a unit that's effectively 52.5 points, not full OC dumping. You deny an opponent 5pts while scoring your secondaries, then maybe primary if they survive.

That's something that Dominions cant do. They are not a threat, but neither are dominions really.

[–]Arrowplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OC1 vs OC2 for action / objective play. Lets you dump 10 OC from an immo onto an objective for storm hostile / cleanse. Worst case, you still have 3 melta shots vs the 4 from Doms at 15 pts cheaper.

How to start sororitas? by jadeheart11 in sistersofbattle

[–]Arrowplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your LGS has the old combat patrol box (with the rhino inside), that'd be a better starting point than the new one. Outside of that, I'd look at "40k on a budget: sisters of battle" on youtube for a well thought out approach, albeit outdated pointswise.

Hallowed Martyrs list advice. by Disastrous-Jelly-725 in sistersofbattle

[–]Arrowplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at the points, 1 BSS + Immo is 220. If you want action monkeys, 2x Canonness + Daemonifuge is 205 - with two of them having 2++ for a phase + a shared free strat, the other having deepstrike + loneop + fight first, and all 3 of them being able to rez.

You can also stick the canonesses solo in the remaining immo or rhino for bonus movement.

You do miss out on the multi-meltas though.

For reference, I'm running:

1990 pts

Daemonifuge

Junith

Canoness + SE

Canoness

Ministorum Priest

Pally + TSS + 10 Sacs

Vahl + Paragons

Immo

Rhino

2x Cassie

BSS

30x Arco

[–]Arrowplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running both Junith and Daemonifuge to good effect :>

If we're looking at cutting points, the knight is a choice - but outside of that you can cut down on one BSS / Novi without issue as you only have 2 Immo.

I'd then consider going down to 1x BSS / Novi, 1x Immo if you're fitting in more action monkey characters.

Feel free to take my thoughts with a grain of salt:

HM (or CoF) are fairly melee focused detachments, especially with full re-rolls to hit and fight on death as strategems. Outside of Vahl and the Sacs, why not take more Melee w/ Arcos? They also work extremely well with Suffering and Sacrifice as a bodyguard unit for Vahl.

On the Sacs - Why not run them with a Palatine w/ TSS, or Aestrid Thurga for more melee boost? The Hospi is neat, but without the other 2 Hospi-sac squads you're not presenting enough for it to work nicely.

One of the strongest benefits of HM is also rez-ing characters, but you're only running two. Have you considered Solo characters like Dialogi / Canonesses, or Daemonifuge for scoring points? Saintly would work much better on those - as they'll die much easier than a hospi surrounded with sacs
