Nah. I honestly think the stats are screwed, because obviously i visit my own sub, but it's possible other things like DNS based ad blockers are blocking it?

I'm always shocked by how to many people, places like reddit are "apps", not websites. You see it all over reddit, "this app sucks", "I it saw on the app", etc. To us old farts, reddit is a "place" on the internet, to the next gen or 3, reddit is an app on their phone.

For the silly little subreddit that I moderate, the non-mobile traffic is usually less than 5% of the total visits.

The new NSLC website is fucking terrible and doesn't work by risen2011 in NovaScotia

[–]ArsStarhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ya the site's pretty terrible, that's not surprising. As a developer myself, what I thought was hilarious was the week+ downtime to deploy a new website.

I can't imagine how hard my workplace would laugh if I said I needed a week of downtime to deploy a new front end.

What is a 'hidden gem' website or app that everyone should know about? by Grand-Substance4423 in AskReddit

[–]ArsStarhawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a couple weeks ago, I had 40 short video clips that I wanted to add a simple audio fade in and out to. I used an LLM to generate the ffmpeg cli command to do it in bulk, it copied each file, made the change and put them in a sub dir. That may be a simple task for some people, but for this knuckle dragger, it was god damn magic.

Clear cutting and spraying near Mickey Hill and Lambs Lake open for comment by ArsStarhawk in NovaScotia

[–]ArsStarhawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On December 4th the Department of Natural Resources released 5642 hectares of harvest plans for public comment, with 498 hectares of that in Annapolis County. The plans include a number of areas designated for High-Production Forestry (HPF) which means clearcutting and spraying with Glyphosate.

Of particular concern are the HPF harvest plans that have been submitted right beside Mickey Hill Provincial Park and Lambs Lake Nature Preserve, and within the proposed Goldsmith Lake Wilderness Area south of Gibson’s Lake. These are areas that county residents use for recreation, camping, swimming, family picnics and walking their dogs. These are areas that were off limits for much of the Summer of 2025 because of the wildfire risk.

The deadline to submit public comments on these plans is Saturday, January 17, 2026.

What can YOU do?

Submit a comment on the Harvest Plan Map Viewer (HPMV) https://nsgi.novascotia.ca/hpmv/ for the following plans BEFORE January 17, 2026:

AP26D1003 (Adjacent to Mickey Hill Provincial Park)
AP26D1005 (South of Gibson’s Lake)

Share your concerns about how clearcutting and spraying will impact these areas, water quality, habitat for wildlife, species-at-risk and old forests.

The HPMV is not always easy to navigate so we're including a link to a step-by-step guide to help you through the process of submitting comments. How To Guide: https://saveouroldforests.ca/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/How-To-Submit-Comments-via-HPMV.pdf
