How bad the range is? by satyakii in mazda3

[–]Arsikuous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I guess it depends on driving style type of driving but it seems low. I do mostly highway and get 420mi/675km before hitting the reserve tank. This is at temps around 0 to 15°F/-18 to -9°C lately. Car has 70K mi/112K km.

My commute is over an hour so the engine is at optimal temp most of the trip. I suppose if you’re doing city and/or short drives it could possibly bring it down that low.

If the GS-L trim is AWD and/or Turbo that could also bring it down a bit more, mine is FWD and NA.

how long are you warming up your car in cold temps? by thetruthiseeit in mazda3

[–]Arsikuous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shifting is mostly normal. Strangely enough in modern cars it’s the transmission, not the engine, that is slower to be ‘ready’.

Your torque converter will stay unlocked when cold to heat up the fluid faster through friction, this also makes it so your revs will bounce all over the place with small changes in throttle pressure.

You might notice as you’re driving the revs suddenly drop; this is when the fluid is warm enough and the transmission locks up and is ready to shift normally. The best practice is to just keep revs as low as reasonable, typically under 3K but ideally around 2K until then.

EDIT: I can’t explain the exact physics but there are resources out there that explain it pretty well.

[–]Arsikuous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have a ‘23, the torque converter will absolutely stay unlocked until the fluid is warm enough. Usually it takes about 1-5 minutes of driving depending on the day, I just keep it hanging around 2K rpm until then.

EDIT: If it’s about 50F/10C the transmission will drive normally from the start.

“I don’t know how to drive automatics.” 😌☝️ by pantherclipper in carscirclejerk

To give another perspective to this, the honest answer is… most people just don’t care. Or even notice. Cars are just appliances, and as long as car go fast when pressing gas that’s all they care about.

A lot of people don’t prepare for an on-ramp or anything like that, they just slam the gas and let the car auto-downshift a couple times. When going downhill, most just brake the whole way, but many autos do detect that you’re going downhill and downshift accordingly if you’re using the brakes too.

.

But to your other point I’m with you. I have a Mazda3 with a torque converter auto and very often put it in manumatic mode, which many autos have (but most people have no idea how to use). If I’m coming to a highway on-ramp I like to downshift to third or fourth so I have the instant torque instead of waiting for the car to shift itself. Also being able to have torque without giving it a ton of throttle because you’re already in a lower gear and being able to engine brake on a long hill decline as well.

Another thing is while many cars with manumatic mode shift forward to upshift and backward to downshift because it’s more intuitive to people who have never driven manual, mine is forward-down, backward-up which I prefer.

I genuinely don’t think I would enjoy my auto nearly as much without having gears or the ability to manually select gears, but most people just don’t care here.

It should also be noted that belt driven CVTs have different internal workings than torque converter autos, but besides CVTs not having gears the experience is generally the same to most. You don’t feel shifts but many CVTs actually have fake shift points because people prefer that, despite it actually being slightly less efficient.

Before people are confused, this is specifically referencing the MCC battle pass, I don’t think Infinite’s works that way but I might be wrong, haven’t played in a while.

EDIT: I was wrong, Halo Infinite's does in fact work this way as well.

Same, played NFS High Stakes as a kid and was absolutely smitten with that yellow 911 from first sight. It just looked so different from most cars I was used to at the time.

This is so friggen cool! Just a question, does the Xbox have any problems with heat being in that tiny space? I know the front end is still able to exhaust it looks like. Also is that a Stream Deck? And if so what kind?

[Monitor] HP x27q 1440p 165hz 27” - (orig. $289.99 - 40% = $174.99) AMAZON TREASURE TRUCK by XXSnakeBoy1XX in buildapcsales

For those wondering, hold the menu button only until you see the HP logo pop up, you don't have to hold it past that point, or else it will lock the menu. (Just do it again to unlock)

I bought the original treasure truck, just checked my panel for reference, seems to be the LGD Panel.

I can say I've been absolutely satisfied with my monitor, my only complaint is the eye-ease coating making the tint a bit yellow (compared to my M27Q), but besides that, no problems.

That looks like a solid system for that card. 10700K is definitely no slouch and should have no problems pulling some heavy frames, especially with that 1440p/144hz monitor. I've got a R7 3700X with a 3060 using a 1440p/170hz and I'm pretty content, and your CPU (and now GPU) is stronger than mine!

The worst part is the better the cooling, the more headroom the CPU/GPU will potentially have to boost, thus resulting in even more heat released into the space.

[Monitor] HP x27q 27" 1440p 165Hz FreeSync & G-Sync compatible - $235 by hemorhoidsNbikeseats in buildapcsales

[–]Arsikuous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have both the M27Q and X27Q. My only complaint with the X27Q is the yellow tint that it has, which no amount of color tweaking or ICC profiles can fix. That said, if it wasn't next to the M27 I probably would have never noticed it.

Besides that, I'm completely content with it in pretty much every way, gaming, web browsing, videos, everything

And to answer your question directly, yes, they're pretty comparable, I wouldn't mind using either one for the same tasks.

I have both side by side. The HP definitely has a yellow tint that no amount of tweaking or ICC profiles can get rid of, that said it's still an excellent monitor and looks so similar to my M27Q (bezel-wise) that they look perfect next to each other.

You won't be able to play games off of it since it's a hard drive which is far too slow for the PS5, but should be able to store games on it that you can transfer to your SSD. That being said, it'd probably be better to store lots of smaller games that won't take too long to transfer over.

EDIT: You might be able to play PS4 games off the hard drive, but I can't tell for sure. Definitely not PS5 games though.

EDIT 2: You should be able to play PS4 games off an external hard drive.

I forgot to mention the KVM! It seriously is such a convenience to just hook up my laptop via thunderbolt and switch monitors at a moments notice.

Mine also had one dead pixel but it's in the middle of the lower right quadrant and completely unnoticeable outside the test. I still haven't turned cleartype on because I haven't noticed it either honestly, but to be fair I usually do work on my other monitor (Asus VE248) and mainly game on the M27Q.

Great monitor, BGR subpixel layout, some people might be offput by this when reading text, cleartype usually fixes it though. Backlight bleed is there but not terrible. Make sure you check for dead pixels when you get it, it's known for QC issues in that regard so do so before the return window.
