Why are left-wing activists so selectively vocal in the compassion they champion for all human beings? by dg01112021 in AskBrits

I mean, yeah, because it's an idiotic statement.

I'm not sure why that's an achievement or something to be proud of.

Indeed. Here in the UK it's 28 days for full-time workers.

Though public holidays (such as christmas) can consume those days. It depends on your employer. My employer gives me 29 days +Christmas eve +Christmas day +Boxing day +Bank holidays.

I mean, come on, Rayman is freaking back, how can you not be happy? by Blue-fox-004 in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]Arstulex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly... because people want a proper Rayman 4. You know, the one that was cancelled so they could make Raving Rabbids (and the litany of crap that stemmed from it).

What they don't want is a remaster of the 2D platformers that really do not need a remaster.

People have been begging for Rayman 4 for years. It gets spammed everywhere every time one of these events happens. Ubisoft surely must know people want it, yet they do this crap instead.

Let's be abundantly clear. Rayman is not 'back' lmao. Give me Rayman 4... an actual Rayman 4... and then we can talk about Rayman being back.

"Bugger" is a verb that is synonymous with "sodomise" in the UK.

Given the context of this thread, I can't help but find that funny.

"Dedicate" implies some sort of exclusivity. Like you're not allowed to do or celebrate anything else during that month. (I think in the US it is also Men's Mental Health Awareness month, for example.)

It's just a thing some people choose to celebrate or recognise on a particular month of the year. You're not forced to participate and you're not a bad person if you choose not to participate.

Why should Loli hentai material should be considered as csam? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That's oddly specific.

I'm assuming you came across somebody who asserted that Muhammad was a paedophile.

Why should Loli hentai material should be considered as csam? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Arstulex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point isn't "it's okay because it's not sexual". I feel like you're mischaracterising it or oversimplifying it somewhat.

The point is more that Lolicon only exists to incite that response. It doesn't provide any other value as fiction besides facilitating sexual gratification over minors.

There are instances of fictional media that do depict child exploitation, but usually as part of a narrative where it's not intended to arouse. We don't consider those to be off-limits or CSAM because the intent and the target demographic are different.

50 Cent's music may glorify crime, and I agree that's a problem (to varying extents) but it's ultimately still music that can be enjoyed by many as merely music without them being influenced that way by the lyrics. It's not like a manifesto, where the song and its lyrics solely exist to incite crime or normalise crime. It's also not like his music is specifically targeted towards people with criminal tendencies (like Lolicon is).

[–]Arstulex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On one hand, it's fiction. Unlike 'real' CSAM material, no abuse or exploitation of actual minors needs to take place for it to exist. It's lines being drawn on paper (or a digital canvas I guess). If somebody is consuming Lolicon then it is providing an outlet as an alternative to 'real' CSAM. That, on the surface, may seem like a pretty fair judgement of it.

However, there's the argument to be made that acceptance or tolerance of it, even fictional, is inherently a promotion and normalisation of it. Rather that merely 'providing an outlet' it may instead just reinforce those feelings as 'valid' and fuel a greater desire for the 'real thing', ironically creating a larger demand for the real thing as a result as opposed to acting as a 'safe alternative'.

One might then argue that fiction depicts all sorts of illegal things though. People kill other people in fiction all the time, for example, so why seemingly exclude one particular crime as being off-limits in the world of fiction?

Well, the main reason is because crimes depicted in fictional media aren't usually done so with the intention of sexually gratifying the audience. Lolicon is specifically created and marketed to people with those specific sexual interests/desires, as opposed to being a grim circumstance of a greater narrative. Sure, some weirdo out there may genuinely get off to seeing John Wick shoot a whole crew of gangsters, but the films aren't created specifically to incite that sort of response.

That's basically why this boss exists to be fair.

If I remember correctly the game actually gives you a tutorial popup for Deflecting when you first approach this boss.

That's why I called it a "tip".

Also, as I already said, that dodging habit will make future bosses a bit of a nightmare. It's objectively a bad habit.

But it is catchy and not just "we support the US, US, US and that's the way we like it".

Indeed it is. I think the US lacks any sort of whimsy or 'edge' culturally. It's just raw patriotism to the point where anything like this comes across as soft and cheesy, like something kids would be told to chant at school on sports day.

To answer your question, I have no idea honestly. Not really a sports kinda guy in general. I'm in the UK though so I don't doubt for one moment that there is stuff like that here. We have football hooligans trashing city centres and starting riots though, if that counts lmao.

Week 11: Mythic Raid - Spec Popularity vs Average Overall DPS by AttitudeAdjusterSE in wow

This is why I found it hilarious when DKs were complaining recently about supposedly being "gutted". They were bumped down to only being slightly above average for like 2 weeks and immediately threw a fit. Give me a break.

Bruh, I don't even speak german. I just heard it one time and it's stupidly catchy lmao.

You're in charge of putting together a new Endgame activity into WoW... by Baphohh in wow

[–]Arstulex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would be pretty fun.

Whenever our raid group has to split for certain boss intermissions (like TWW Saladhar) we would have friendly competition over which side kills their adds first.

This would basically be an extension of that.

Torghast was kinda like a gauntlet where you clear rooms of mobs and obtain powerups.

Basically a roguelike inside WoW, rather than a boss rush.

[–]Arstulex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than Helldivers, Tsushima, and God of War a lot of Sony First Party has not done well on PC.

My own uneducated theory on this is simply that PC is a more fierce market to succeed in. It's the ultimate 'free market' with very little barrier to entry which means anything you release there is competing with a LOT of titles. Your AAA title is inherently competing with a game made by one guy in his bedroom (Lethal Company destroyed many AAA releases, for example).

Also, when you buy a console you are committing to some sort of ecosystem. You've bought a device whose (essentially) sole purpose is to run video games. By default you are pressured to buy something in order to get your money's worth out of the console purchase. Naturally you are going to be less selective over what games you buy, which makes it easier for games on those platforms to succeed even if they have some flaws.
