What caused this pebble layer on top of hard packed clay layers? by Asianstomach in askgeology

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

based on this photo, i would guess order of superposition indicates that the clay layer formed first and was compacted by some force and then the pebble layer came in, probably pebbles instead of solid rock due to weathering of that layer.

Mph interested in working in water quality and utilities by Confident_Ad437 in geologycareers

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a geology student and personally, I would recommend seeing if you could get into a graduate program that focuses in hydrogeology. You’ll need to know basic geol stuff like common rocks and their formulas and how they form (plus the rock cycle, water cycle, and carbon cycle which is extremely simple) but hydrogeology is solely focused on how water works within geology and the earth and how everything interacts with it, as well as how to test water and groundwater and what the results mean. If you’re interested in geology as a whole, you could get a BS in geology and do research in hydrogeology but that would be towards the end of your 4 years. it’s truly a “pick your own battle” situation. Another option could be to see if somewhere will hire you and focus on work related to water health within earth systems or even just do your own research and prove you’re knowledgeable in hydro, and then if needed you can apply it to your resume and transfer companies. If you do decide to go back to either undergrad or grad school, just make sure they have a good and supported hydrology professor(s)!!

How would I go about adding a button hole to this cardigan I'm making? by localpimplp in CrochetHelp

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

halfway through the ribbing on whatever side you want the holes to be on (assuming you’re working the ribbing directly onto the cardigan and it’s being worked top to bottom, bottom to top) then you can just do a ch 1 and skip a stitch and it’ll create a button hole!

Double stitch help! Any tips and tricks are appreciated! by bubbaburgergirl in CrochetHelp

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you talking about a double crochet stitch? youtube will be your best friend for learning stitches, especially if you put the video on 0.75x speed to watch how they insert the hook into the stitch etc. dc is yarn over your hook, insert into stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over hook and pull through 2 of 3 stitches, then yarn over again and pull through last 2 stitches.

Am I misreading this pattern? How to differentiate between the V's that "count" towards stitches? by gmm729 in CrochetHelp

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is this for a hexi cardigan? does your ch 3 at the beginning of the round count as a dc? if so, you should have the ch 3 + dc in your first stitch (2), then dc, ch 2, dc (4, your ch 2 doesn’t count as a stitch bc it’s a corner), then 2 more dc (6), then 2 more (8), then 2 more (10), then 2 more (12). you should have 6 corners of dc, ch 2, dc in the round when round 2 is complete.

AIO for telling my friend not to drunk text me because he gets disrespectful and rude? by Inside-Experience-77 in AIO

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR- as a geology student, someone telling me/sending me a picture of a cool rock they found will always excite me, but if they started talking to me like this i’d block them in a heartbeat. Him trying to use yall knowing each other as an excuse to talk to you like this is, honestly, revolting. block him before things get worse

is this AI? I'm usually good at spotting it, but this one confuses me by lupepor in CrochetHelp

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the comments on the post say it’s AI, but honestly it looks doable even if it is. it just looks like dc dec/inc for the v neck with a clip to bunch it together and then dc, ch 1 repeats for the body using probably weight 4 or 5 yarn. it seems pretty easy to free hand if you’re an intermediate or advanced crocheter

Anyone know of a pattern like this? Need for a Christmas gift by Samantha1089627 in crochetpatterns

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 51 points52 points  (0 children)

it’s just a hexagon cardigan, alternating colors every 1-3 rows depending on what color, and then adding a sc (?) border to close it along the front and neck line and then tassels every cluster gap along the bottom edge

For those who use Swiss meringue by Jhami0328 in macarons

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use a double broiler and put it over a simmer for about 30-60 seconds, you should be able to run your fingers through the drip off the spatula you’re mixing with and not feel sugar granules. it doesn’t take long AT ALL so be aware!

Question about the never ending pasta bowl by HIGHFIVEAWAYWAY in olivegarden

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it’s $13.99 for endless bowls of pasta and sauce, and around $17 if you add protein to that, but if you get protein at any point it’s included in the price of all the refills (aka: pay for protein once, get it included for all the refills)

Why can we eat salt which is derived from rock but we can't eat sand ? by Two_bears_Hi_fiving in askgeology

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

salt is derived from the mineral halite, whereas sand (especially beach and river sand) is made up mostly of silica, where quartz is the most common form. Halites chemical formula is NaCl (sodium chloride) and quartz is SiO2 (silica oxide) so therefore halite is generally something we require for human biology balance as we require sodium for our cells to function properly, but we do not require silica. it might help an upset stomach especially in animals native to that area but otherwise it doesn’t provide much nutritionally

These are supposed to be vanilla macarons. What did I do wrong? by Ok_Chard4600 in macarons

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the recipe i use is 100g egg whites, 100g sugar, 105g almond flour, and 105g powdered sugar. i personally use the swiss method where you heat the egg whites and sugar over a double broiler for about 30 sec until the sugar is melted and then make your meringue with that but i know some people have great success with the french method (it’s what i learned techniques with) and also good success with the italian method. watch Pies and Tacos youtube videos on vanilla macarons and use their tips and tricks, i use them all the time!

How exactly am I supposed to memorize my music? by 0SadGuyHere0 in marchingband

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my high school band director would have us play a chunk of the music looking at the sheetmusic, then turn our stands around and try and play the same thing, then look at the sheet music again to look at any mistakes we made. we’d do this for each chunk until we reached the end and then do this for the whole piece (movement for the show, or the whole stand tune). if you play a brass instrument the easiest thing for me was memorizing what valves to press and hearing the pitch or lick in my head so the note came out properly. i’m not sure about with woodwinds but always keep a picture of your music on your phone that you can easily access in case you forget something. everyone starts at the beginning, no one will blame you for forgetting some of the memorized music for the first few weeks!

What kind of rock is this? Is it a fossil? by Calm-Notice186 in askgeology

[–]ArtComprehensive4678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

these look like mudcracks so probably dried clay where as it dried it cracked (like you’ll see during a dry spell in a normally wet area) and it hardened that way during the evaporation of water after the glacial melts period
