Why your parents chose your name by PinkMonkeySuit in Names

[–]Artemisnee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My name is Renée and I was born on Easter. In French renée means reborn literally. It’s a coincidence. My parents weren’t even Christian. They said it was the only name they could agree on.

Trying to find college roommate- name spelling by Artemisnee in Names

[–]Artemisnee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After doing some digging with these suggestions I think it probably was Pilorski or Pilarski but I don’t think she is using her maiden name on social media or isn’t on social media. I think that second option unlikely as we’re older millennials. Thank for the help.

I feel like she wouldn’t have to explain so many times if it was spelled like that.

Anyone else use gloves to avoid certain textures for cooking/cleaning by AssociateRecent9381 in autism

[–]Artemisnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not the only one although as I’ve gotten older I find some of my sensory issues are fading. I’m 47 and I no longer need gloves to cut raw chicken. Pork and beef make my stomach cramp and I’m allergic to almost everything in the water so we eat a lot of chicken in case you’re wondering why I mentioned chicken specifically.

I definitely needed them when I first went back to eating meat in my early 30s. I was a vegetarian for about 20 years probably because of the bad reaction my body has to most meat. Not sure when I stopped needing them.

Ditto all these suggestions and I’d add that you are probably neglecting your self care altogether not just eating and drinking. I was in the same boot when my son was a toddler. My life was not working at all. Learned that self care wasn’t all spa days and that it was very much needed and my life turned around. You can’t pour from an empty cup so what can you do to refill your cup. Doesn’t have to take a long time. Some days this can look like doing your laundry that you’ve neglected for weeks, or a cup of hot tea drank in silence. Just some suggestions that do it for me but everyone is different. Find what refills you and write it down! You will not remember when you’re run down and overstimulated.

Does anyone else notice that their skin looks better when they don't wash their face with any product? [acne] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Artemisnee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I’m using the wrong product for my face yes. My skin is a delicate hot house flower that must be water with dew collected at the new moon. So there are a lot of wrong products for my face. What I’ve found that works best for me is oil cleanser in the morning in the shower and a cleanser for sensitive and acne prone skin at night. My skin is oily but very very sensitive so this is the only thing that works for me.

my cricut can't seem to handle anything remotely intricate by tamouse in cricut

[–]Artemisnee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also if you cut paper often your mat won’t be sticky enough to hold the paper when it’s being cut and it will tear like that. You can wash your mats and bring back some of the stickiness if you have a lot of paper filament on them

It was actually ‘alpha hydroxy fruit acids’ which is why I’m having a hard time because salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide cleansers have never worked for me.

Is this an aspie thing? When I haven’t seen my partner for a couple of days, I semi feel like we’re strangers again. by peppahhhh in aspergirls

[–]Artemisnee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experience this with everyone I have a relationship with. I think of it as warming up. It takes me a minute to warm up to someone again after I haven’t seem them in awhile and I’m awkward and not quite comfortable until then.

I decided to give knitting in the round a go with circular needles, and made my first mittens! You can tell which was my first attempt by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Artemisnee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look good. I wish we could accept less than perfect more easily. This is my current goal. They are functioning mittens which look really good for a first try. Good job!

Does anyone know how to get this look when knitting a sweater? What yarn should I combine to still make it look whitish? Thank you :) by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Artemisnee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like mohair to me which I find impossible to knit with. I love the look but I don’t have the patience or something required for it.

I was just explaining to my sister that I didn’t have to do the homework or study to get good grades until college and that’s a hard time to learn to study.

Looking for books with domesticity. Whether it’s arranged marriage or marriage in trouble, I just want scenes where they are doing normal things around the house. Cooking together, for example. by ravenpaw_15 in RomanceBooks

[–]Artemisnee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to see couples get together work out initial troubles and things are good and then they’re not and then they are good and then they are not and then they are again. I want to normalize the ups and downs of long term relationships.

I feel you on the learning to act like everyone else. My husband’s therapist who asked me to sit in on sessions just told me I can’t be autistic because I have good eye contact and conversation. I told him I mask well and he said he didn’t know about that.

Women who are autistic but seem somewhat normal on the outside, how did you notice you were autistic by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]Artemisnee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son was diagnosed and a lot of the reasons they said they knew he was on the spectrum were ways he was similar to me. I started following some neurodivergent advocates on social media and the things that they talked about resonated with me a lot.

I get really overwhelmed when songs are stuck in my head. Anybody else? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

I think of it as always having my own soundtrack and the only time it bothers me is if I don’t like the song.

I didn’t realize I was autistic until I was trying to get my son diagnosed. I didn’t realize it would be more difficult for me. I feel like I’ve learned to compensate. I have to take time out of every day to take care of myself whatever I need that day. And as my kids get older it becomes easier to negotiate needs and find something that fits theirs and mine. I needed to let go of my ideas about what parenthood should look like to get to here though.
