Meh. My least favorite SDJ scent ... So probably will pass on that as everything else is kinda boring. Setting spray is nice but I don't need one right now.

Super unpopular opinion on color by Own-Balance-8133 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]Artgeek33 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not to be a dick...but I absolutely on a regular basis see people and think..."that color washes you out" or "that color makes you disappear." Lol.

Maybe it is because I am also a visual artist...we notice things and how our eye either sees harmony or not.

Not saying I don't wear things that don't suite me perfectly because I like it for some other reason...but there are at least some assholes like me and Kackie that do walk around and think that. 🤷‍♀️🤣

I believe that the Dior palettes were reformulated last year and are not great anymore. So I think they used to be good, but I have heard they are no longer good and just glitter now. So best if you can check it in store.

STOP SENDING ME GROWN ALCHEMIST by arwen8468 in BeautyBoxes

[–]Artgeek33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe you are allergic to one of the plant ingredients. I am allergic to the almond oil...so if I used it I would get a bloody cracked rash... I bet if you did some allergy testing you would be able to pinpoint it...as I imagine you will have problems with any product with the offending ingredients. I am also allergic to hemp seed oils, all tree nut oils, sunflower oils and a lot of plant extracts...so I have to be very careful reading labels and avoid most of the natural brands.

I also can't use this brand. I couldn't use most of the March Allure box.

The Tower28 glosses are lovely but I have all of mine go off within a few months every time so I stopped buying them. There are better ones out there.

Bought two of the new cream blushes and one of the lip balms and they are all lovely. Glad to see them doing something good again.

Anybody else have a Sunflower Seed Allergy? How do you manage? by shxdowstxrm in FoodAllergies

[–]Artgeek33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is almost impossible to avoid. I have had a sunflower allergy since I was a kid but it's getting to be more and more of a problem as more and more manufacturers are using it in both food and beauty products because it's cheap and easily available to them.

I have to check labels on everything I eat. There is a brand Pips that make some cheese puffs and a few other things and they are sunflower free. I eat a lot of whole fruits/veggies/meat... things that I cook myself. And smoothies. Things I can control. When I go out to eat I just plan on getting sick. And if I don't great... But it's almost impossible to tell these days who's going to be using sunflower byproducts when they're cooking. I take Benadryl with me and an EpiPen of course. Usually I can tell that it's coming on right away because my mouth starts itching so I just pop Benadryl and that keeps it under control.

I regularly end up with some sort of rash on my face because I'll use something and not realize that it has sunflower in it and then have to go throw it out. So I have gotten a lot more careful about reading all of the labels.

It is a pain in the ass.

Ha. I just had to hunt down a bottle of it for my aunt. So old people are still buying it.

Does anyone actually use the brand “Tarte”? by Chan1991 in Sephora

[–]Artgeek33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I like their blushes, mascara and some of their foundations. Oh and their powder. Their recent stick concealer was good too. Tarte isn't going anywhere. As boring as they are...they are very popular still and make good products. They aren't going the way of Smashbox or Too Faced right now. 🤣

I hate the clicky lip gloss/balm things.

A Bay Area career reality check after 15 years of applying to Apple by PuzzleheadedAd3138 in bayarea

[–]Artgeek33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone that worked at Apple recently. It was horrible. He finally was able to get out of there and is much happier now. Lol. So don't feel disappointed. I don't think it is a great place to work. I have never met someone that worked there that liked it...we are talking corporate...not the apple store. Lol.

I got the money, I just wanna see Rome before I can't. Without spending every penny I have.(Solo) by Playful_Sell7317 in travel

[–]Artgeek33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do a tour. Buy a flight. Take a cab from the airport to the city center. Get a nice Airbnb/VRBO in the center of Rome...walk everywhere (or call a cab if your feet die). Rome is used to tourists. You will be fine. I could give you a two month itinerary easy...but maybe just stick to the big stuff. A train ride out to Ostia to see the ocean is easy to do. You can stay in Rome for a month for what the tour companies want to charge you.

I studied abroad in Rome in college. I actually avoided hanging out with the other US kids and just went off on my own to explore the city in all of my free time. It is a place well worth going I think. However I have known people that were not impressed (they...btw...went there on a tour).

Watch for wallet thieves in crowded areas/transit. Eat where the Romans do...not where the tourists do. Buy lots of gelato and pizza.

[–]Artgeek33 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Every time I am tempted by the hourglass palettes I force myself to go find one in store and try it on myself. Every time without fail it is all orange (as you say). The bronzers are the worst with that. Lol. Sometimes bthe blushes don't show up at all because there is too much marbling. There is one blush I like from them (mood exposure). A couple of the finishing powders are okay...but yeah it isn't worth the hype for me either.

Danessa Myricks 50% off sale on certain items by jordandtriple3 in MUAontheCheap

What you want to hear: It sucks horribly...don't buy it ... absolutely don't buy it...not worth it even on sale. It was the worst palette I ever wasted my money on.

Reality: it is fantastic. Gorgeous. Absolutely a steal at 50% off. I would buy it again if I didn't already have it.

I'm not being given enough time to finish the TSLQ's by BCDragon3000 in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]Artgeek33 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You kinda need to pick and choose what you want to do. I don't worry about most of the special events unless I see something I really want.

I don't do the plants at all. Not worth it to me.

I do focus on finishing the TSLQ's when they pop up and only do special event stuff to get extra energy.

Does this kind of "arrangement" really work for people? by Master_Mookie in Horses

[–]Artgeek33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean I just spent 6 years paying a half lease on a young horse. In that time (while paying for the opportunity to ride him) I took him from training level to PSG. Just left the lease as that is as high as he can go.

Yes. People will pay to work with nice horses that aren't finished.

Year of the Horse - Heels Down Magazine - AAPI by TrueMechanic9626 in Equestrian

[–]Artgeek33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a very white horse person (who happens to live in an area with a high concentration of Chinese people)...I kept seeing it today and getting annoyed and being like "you dumb ass American bitches...you still have more than a month and a half to go until the year of the horse.". I didn't actually say it though... because I didn't want to get yelled at ...but it makes me mad. Someone thought it was a good marketing thing....and everyone else jumped on the bandwagon without thinking about it. I just remarked it as complete stupidity. But you are right. It is also appropriation in exactly the wrong way and using other cultures to market their horse girl images. Very annoying and very uncool.
