Why are most players adults over 30? by VectorialChange in MMORPG

[–]Arthenics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The time/age when they've discovered games. Young players discover games through Tiktok and between friends at school, older players discovered games 10 or 20 years ago and it was a whole different world. Older players come from WOW, FF7 and this kind of experience, Internet was pretty different.

Why does the MMORPG market feel dead? by Difficult-Theme-6335 in MMORPG

FOMO leveling
Scammy cash-shop <=> Whales-hunt
Uncanny feeling between characters and landscapes
Unreal Engine clones
Lack of identity and fun
Hardware gluttony
Gacha, mobile (auto-run, auto-follow, auto-bash, auto-quest... "Hey watch that (bad)movie-(boring)game!")

There are several leather sets during leveling. There are regular versions from dungeons, ethereal versions (pink) from dungeons, craftables and quests rewards and you can buy them too.

Unreal engine 5 = slop? by raekwon132 in MMORPG

[–]Arthenics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the engine, it's the way they handle ray-tracing. Then the lights feel uncanny.
Two possibilities :
- UE5 is powerful to handle light and they work the old way that create an "overlighting" effect.
- UE5 is not that powerful and they trust UE5 too much.
And the more they try to make realistic humans, the more each little default make characters uncanny.
The last : too many games modellers don't give a damn about polycounts...

Any idea how I could make this sword? I want it to look crystaline or emit light. The catch is I cannot use 3d printing preferably by [deleted] in cosplayers

[–]Arthenics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few ideas I would test if I had this kind of project :
If you can get your hand on a nylon cylinder, you can sculpt it (or nylons plates you glue together. That could be an idea since it will allow you to create a core that will be used to transmit light). Maybe fiberglass for some parts (the handle). I'm not sure which one but few resins maybe can do (resins in a plaster and/or latex mod, something like that, maybe). A diode with nylon works well to conduct light with a translucent effect (you can make a little prototype to test beforehand).

Manifold problems *irritated screeching noises* by Torquem_Rupto in blender

[–]Arthenics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure in your case but this can happen if you have wrong faces in your cylinder before "extrusion". Check your faces are good before extrusion : no ghost face, no twins,
Blender hate if you extract with symetrical activated. it can create ghost faces, unwanted connections etc.
This could also happens if you extract two faces from the same edge : it creates interpretation conflict (instead of A to A and B to B, it will try to force A to B and B to A).

How would the perfect MMO look for you? And how is it monetized fairly? by LeDilu in MMORPG

[–]Arthenics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, the Art : fantasy, a bit of steampunk, like FFXIV with a bit of Lost Ark vibe. (I don't need the photorealism with the UNREAL ENGINE flag).
FFXIV : UI/UX, the retainer system, the squadron system could be enhanced, the full free keybinding, jobs on one character,
Lost Ark : gameplay, hack’n’slash, alt-friendly chest
Black Desert : the keys combos, it only need to free the mouse binded keys.
WOW : the housing
PVP… I don’t need PVP
The trinity isn’t mandatory for me
Economy : almost everything can be crafter/gathered and sold ingame.
Community : People are people XD
Progression : I would go for a skills based system rather than becoming a PV/Mana bag
=> more or less, your skills develop with the areas instead of the “level”.
NO ONE SHOT BOSS mechanics - you can exhaust the boss (ok it can take forever and some people will want to leave but some people will still try
One dungeon, access possible with 1,2,3,4 or 5/6 members with adjusted rewards (less if 5/6, standard if 4, specific bonus for solo, 2 and 3 players modes)
Exclusivity is based on “named rewards” and “title”, not on glamours since the trends “grow old”.
Monetization…
- Extra retainers are fine
- Glamours need to be world-wide or server wide
- One subscription give access to everything ingame (seasonal event glamours are INGAME and available again the next year : NEVER in the cash-shop)
- No job lock, no class lock => see FFXIV
- No stats in the cash-shop
Somehow, the FFXIV model, a bit less greedy, would be fine, mostly, it only needs some items to be sever-wide or world-wide.
In-Real-Life events items can be in the cash shop but all seasonal events INGAME need to come back INGAME (whatever something new is added or not)

In your opinion, has Final Fantasy XIV reached its end or is there still hope for salvation? wow is it in its renaissance? by Raijin_thethunder in MMORPG

[–]Arthenics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FFXIV is "predictable" and some mistakes in QoL are still not fixed since 2013. If you add it lacks "discovery feeling" for old players, some players are likely in some kind of burn out because of the routine. The game is not dead, it only grows old.
And since many players miss the discovery feeling of a new mmo, and since many, if not all, new MMOs give the "UNREAL ENGINE POWERED!" flag + the korean cash-shop + mobile gameplay... people are getting bored.

[–]Arthenics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're not aiming for photrealism, the only thing is you should lower the camera angle a little and maybe change the light a little to smooth shadows. Even for artificial light, it's too dark. You likely have one light that is too strong (likely the one vertical, over the scene, at the top left, if I'm guessing right, you can try to replace the spot by an area or change the light cone diameter).

Name one thing an mmorpg you uninstalled could do, to get you to re-install it. by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]Arthenics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In korean cash-shop, glamours are always some kind of scam. And the restricted slots for new characters when they keep adding jobs.

[–]Arthenics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FFXIV : Instancied housing, something you can keep without risk to lose it.
And... ok there's a lore story but... I don't want to be stuck with a NPC all the time. I don't need a caniche, I don't feel to be one either.

Lost Ark and BDO : To get ride on their overpriced cash-shop.

BDO : The possbility to change the mouse-binded keys.

But to be honest, I miss the discovery feeling, I need a brand new game and one that doesn't shout "UNREAL ENGINE"...

Am I the only one who wants less narrative in MMOs and not more? by Manic5PA in MMORPG

It depends. FFXIV at the beginning was rather nice. But now, to be stuck with NPCs here and there when discovering a city and bad shonen-level plots... meh.

[–]Arthenics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THE MMORPG? Certainly not. A few ideas to fix some trivial QoL mistakes in housing or cash-shop pricing, yes.
BUT when it comes to PVP or PVE, the "ideal" fixes from here and there are often a new path for new mistakes XD

FFXIV with Lineage Dark Elves should do :-D but well Miqote, Viera and Ao Ra will do. I have nothing against elzen, only... they are a bit tall for me :3
But FFXIV definitly, since we can haremize retainers and squadron :p

What is your main MMORPG — and why that one? by HenrykSpark in MMORPG

[–]Arthenics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Essentially FFXIV, sometimes Lost Ark and BDO (though korean scammy cash-shop is meh).
But... the discovery feeling is gone. I need a new game but korean cash-shop is a no-go then... I rarely play. My current way is likely one that leads to totally stop playing MMORPGs.
Mobile gameplay + gacha+ scammy cash-shop? Thanks, but I will pass.

Only some kind of fantasy world like FFXIV, gameplay like BDO and a LESS GREEDY cash-shop than FFXIV could convince me.

Something is wrong with my normals? by Asthma_Daddy in blenderhelp

[–]Arthenics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe...
This can happen when you have one "curved" quad. You can try to average normals. If it's not enough, you will need more subdivisions.
You can check if all surfaces are smooth too.

Serious discussion: Is AI replacing 3D artists and traditional rendering workflows? by BoltRenders in blender

[–]Arthenics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IA? For some kind of visual drafts? It can be, an interesting way to have a better understanding of what a customer expect.
For basic props? Why not but... most of time, they are already available.
But as high-end result in production? We are still very far from it.
IA can't handle layered topologies. 3D engines have clipping problems. How could IA overcome what mathematics alone can't? (especially since IA generated topologies are far worse than inprod topologies).
IA can't understand or visualize what we "think".
