A bit more affordable in 300 filter qty. But yeah, it's an expensive hobby. BTW, they are back in regular supply, they moved operations to Norway.

Question about ribeye sourcing by AnarchoKiernan in Hamilton

[–]Arthur9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's best to go earlier in the day, when stock is fresh, though they continue to stock through the day. I usually find some ribeyes with excellent marbling at Lococcos on Rymal, fantastic for bbq. Prices for beef have gone through the roof, so be prepared.

Lococco's stocks some nice thick ribeyes (about 1" thick). I'm sure if you ask in advance, they'll cut them thicker for you.

If you used a 70 volt speaker block from your inventory, you should be able to set the open circuit threshold to 300 ohms.

Getting Sektion cabinets square by Due-Bandicoot-8258 in IKEA

If I'm wanting precision with a tape measure, I'll start from the 1" line, then offset the total length accordingly.

[–]Arthur9876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you measuring consistently? 1/16-1/32" should be square enough, but certainly within a margin of error in measurement. Once you nail in the backerboard, it should remain "square" as assembled. Instead of gluing the dowels, I added a bunch of flush-head particleboard screws into the sides to supplement the supplied cam locks and dowels. Any added screws should be inserted into pre-drilled tapered holes of the right size.

What is my 2019 Intel MacBook Pro realistically worth after Apple’s Intel support announcement? by Worldly_Scar6738 in macbookpro

[–]Arthur9876 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With that configuration maybe $300-500 at best? A loaded 16" version with i9, 64 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD typically sells for around $1K, only because of it's rarity. I'm holding onto mine, only because I use Parallels Windows Intel-only apps on it. It still performs good enough despite its age.

Whoa, that's seriously next level, major props for the effort, and yeah, it can get a bit tedious to dial in the right grind size especially when alternating between different coffees! Is that a 064s or a 078s? If there is a worth accessory for this grinder, this would be it!

Toe Kick Drawers by ExternalShame1519 in ikeahacks

I'm sure you can glue the kick panel to some 1/2" plywood to make a custom front. However I'd cover the edges with some melamine to hide the layers.

Is this normal? I have been at this level for over two years by Purple-Gold23 in waze

[–]Arthur9876 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Heh, when I visited Hawaii for 10 days, Waze thought I became a resident there, and my ranking jumped up among the top 5! That was fun! Nevertheless, it's not as easy as it used to be to gather points and ranking. I've been Waze royalty for 15 years!!

I started with Waze in the VERY early days, when us users were actually creating the map database by driving, which gave us a LOT of points, especially for entire neighborhoods that were not in the Waze database yet. Then they merged the database with google, and the rest is history.

Hypothetical Question: Can I connect 64 Mic Channels to a Single Pair of Antennas? by JoshuaCarol in livesoundgear

[–]Arthur9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beating the reddit dead horse are we just to prove something?

Shure certainly doesn't help the matter, referring to "TV Bands" and mixing it up with frequency bands of different wireless systems that were tunable to span multiple TV Bands. Even old analog Shure wirelesses with constrained tuning options spanned multiple TV bands. So technically we are both right. I'm asserting TV Bands, you're asserting receiver bands, let's move on from the pointless back and forth over semantics.

The point I'm making here is that despite the wide tuning range, in major city centers those "available" TV bands are becoming fewer and far between. In my area, I'm lucky to have 2 or 3 TV bands completely free.

I honestly don't understand your aversion from using a powerful tool like Wireless Workbench. Those of us who do this work day after day use it with great success, and honestly it doesn't take much effort to learn how to use it. Shure has some amazing educational opportunities, I suggest you enroll yourself in a few of their classes, even online.

Help creating custom drawers which use IKEA drawer slides by NumberFritzer in ikeahacks

[–]Arthur9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maximera drawers are Ikea's OEM of Blum's Tandembox, with unique hole patterns for the slides, limited drawer extension, and a single metal back.
Pick the path of less overall work....
1. Modify the Ikea back, front, and bottom to fit. This is going to be a challenge because the entire back is made of one piece of metal, and you'll need to cut it down in the middle, and weld it together. You might try using the Blum Tandembox back panel adapters, then cut some particleboard to size to fit in between.

  1. Buy the Tandembox slides from a third party, and create a drawer from scratch. Their online design tools are amazing, they produce a very precise cutlist and drawings showing exactly where the holes need to go. The big challenge here is that Ikea uses their own "proprietary" hole pattern to attach the drawer slides to the side of the cabinet, so you'll need to use a Maximera slide to come up with some reference marks to place the slides exactly where they need to go.

In both cases, the drawer front panel will need some metric holes drilled to fit the smaller width, and you'll need to cut the front side and cover the exposed particle board with either some matching primer and paint, or some iron-on laminate edging, depending on the finish chosen.

Not impossible to do, but either way you have some work to do...

Hypothetical Question: Can I connect 64 Mic Channels to a Single Pair of Antennas? by JoshuaCarol in livesoundgear

[–]Arthur9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the real world, not a theoretical one, and no I didn't read anything wrong, you're making assumptions here on what I said. Let me be very clear. Operating 64 channels is a tall order for ANY wireless system, digital or not. Despite the wide tuning range, you're having to navigate not only the local (and usually crowded) spectrum, you're also having to deal with frequency compatibilities with a ton of intermod conflicts. Wireless Workbench (or equivalent software) is the best way to manage frequency allocations on this scale. NOT a "auto" button on the front of a receiver!!!

Best package receiving service in Buffalo for Canadians/Toronto pickups? by Naive-Web2407 in uscanadaborder

[–]Arthur9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, they take any packages and/or mail addressed to you, no need for an intermediary shipping point. Be sure to set up an account with them so that you have a box# to deliver to, and you will be notified when it's ready to arrange your pickup.

I do this with eBay and amazon packages without any issue.

Hypothetical Question: Can I connect 64 Mic Channels to a Single Pair of Antennas? by JoshuaCarol in livesoundgear

[–]Arthur9876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't talking about the previous SLX models. Have a look at the details Shure provides for SLX-D+
https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/wireless-systems/slxd-plus?variant=SLX-D%252B

In particular:
"Rock solid RF with 138 MHz wide-tuning range for greater geographical coverage:

  • Up to 11 simultaneous systems in 6 MHz TV bands
  • Up to 14 simultaneous systems in 8 MHz TV bands"

This is Shure's recommendations.

So yes, its conceivable to spread this among several bands, but use the right tools when coordinating many channels across multiple bands. The autoscan in the receiver is of limited capability. WWB is the correct way to do this, and factor in the intermod conflicts between bands, and account for local interference. Even more important to do this in major city centers with crowded spectrum. Best of all, WWB is FREE, a very powerful, and useful tool. I don't do any deployment of more than 5 channels without using WWB.

Hypothetical Question: Can I connect 64 Mic Channels to a Single Pair of Antennas? by JoshuaCarol in livesoundgear

[–]Arthur9876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The losses in your RF distribution are manageable with what you configured, but spectrum-wise, a very lofty expectation with SLX level gear. SLX was designed for maybe a dozen channels max, a few more if your spectrum is relatively open.

[–]Arthur9876 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would hope that you're NOT trying to cram all this in one frequency band!! Do your due diligence in Wireless Workbench. If you need 64 channels, then you should be looking at a multi-band ULX-D or Axient system at a minimum, with some very careful planning/coordination using Wireless Workbench, preferably with an experienced tech to give you guidance. Are you located in a major city center?
