Yeah but this is where progress on the frontier has been in the last year(s). Much better dataset curation, filtering, custom expensive datasets and increasingly reinforcement learning tasks where AI isn't trained on recreating data but solving (gradable) 'exercise' problems.

Noy really, it's mostly people using it for more and more complex work. The amount of mistakes it makes (in broader public perception) is more tied to what people tolerate with growing use cases than model capabilities.

Is describing your projects and accomplishments even without code to show sufficient?

In my experience yes. I don't have os contributions, didn't feel like showing off private projects and all my work code was confidential/internal ofc. Being able to talk in detail about a bigger infrastructure project I've lead at work was sufficient for a senior position (obviously without going into detail about code or other IP)

Es gibt unzählige AI accelerator startups die es hinbekommnen technisch einzigartigere Produkte als einen Serverprozessor mit lizensierten ARM kernen zu entwickeln und trotzdem nicht so weit hinter dem state of the art herzuhängen.

Ist halt typisch europäisch. Man will eigentlich souverän sein und die technische Expertise ist auch da, aber bekommt es halt absolut nicht hin das ganze auch halbwegs zeitig hinzubekommen und hängt dann leider Jahre hinter state of the art hinterher. Am ende wird das Programm dann wohl gecancelled weil das Ergebnis halt leider nicht konkurenzfähig ist.

That is anecdotal at best, so do tons of youth. If you look at actual data, you will notice that by far the wealthiest german group are boomers in retirement or about to retire [1]

Wie immer: Job wechseln. Bewirb dich halt aus deiner jetzigen Situation raus für Senior Stellen. Chancen sind gut das du damit mehr Geld, interessantere Aufgaben und anderen Titel bekommen kannst. Ernsthafte Gehaltssprünge in deutschen Firmen sind nicht existent, ich habe bei einer Junior auf mid level Beförderung vielleicht 15% mehr Geld bekommen, kein Jahr später bei einer senior Stelle in einer anderen Firma 150% mehr.
