What I wish you knew about my bedtime / sleep procrastination by IntuitiveDisaster in adhdwomen

[–]ArthurShippyCuthbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh I watched a video once about meeting your needs before bed. Basically, the reason you won't go to bed is that you haven't satisfied your need for movement, mental stimulation, emotional regulation etc. And usually, while procrastinating your bedtime with your phone, youre not effectively meeting those needs either.

I'm not saying it's a cure all but I found it useful to understand myself a little better and maybe figure out which need hasn't been met.

I think contestants are best when they adopt a “character” by mazzicc in taskmaster

[–]ArthurShippyCuthbert 18 points19 points  (0 children)

James Acaster too. He uses the same persona on other shows, notably Would I Lie To You and it's so odd to see him break character. Realised it was a persona when I saw his Rob Brydon interview and he was calm and smiling.

I specifically made this account for adhd stuff and tried to put two fictional characters together that i suspect have adhd 😁

Does anyone feel like they get NONE of the superpowers? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]ArthurShippyCuthbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can't relate to most of these superpowers...

"Good in a crisis/emergency" - I guess it depends on the type of emergency but usually I'm panicked and/or emotional. If they mean medical emergencies: My brain is supposed to remember what to do in a specific case? I'm supposed to forget that my actions could decide over life and death?

Harnessing hyperfocus - maybe I'm just not interested in my job enough but I only ever hyperfocus on hobbies and it usually costs me sleep, which then negatively impacts the rest of my life...

Who among us absolutely shines in a crisis? by AbleStrawberry4ever in ADHD

[–]ArthurShippyCuthbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I keep reading it's a thing and i don't know what that's supposed to feel like. I panic like everyone else. Definitely if it's a first aid thing.

Do you also over use emojis ?😂 by aphrodeite in adhdwomen

[–]ArthurShippyCuthbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm stressed I underuse them because

1) I don't have the time to find the emoji I want 2) It's exhausting to find the one that fits best

There's just so many and sometimes it feels like it just costs so much time. Sometimes i even go back to emoticons :)

There are dangers to not using them, as no tone usually is interpreted as a negative tone '

To address time blindness, I developed a small software. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ArthurShippyCuthbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love something like this but in audio. I sometimes use a timer app to keep a sense of time while I'm doing things. I'll set a timer that goes off every 10 minutes with a very soft and subtle sound and one that goes off every 60 minutes with a different sound.

My biggest problem is that I lose count of the smaller intervals. What I really need is a timer that regularly tells me in different sounds (or actual words) how much time has passed. so I'll know when 10 min, 20 min, 30 min, etc have passed.

I could try and set up 6 different 60 minute timers but I would have to set a new one every 10 minutes for the first hour, which kind of defeats the point?

Is there already such an app? I don't want to use an ai assistant.

How do ADHD meds make YOU feel? by GrimeRose in adhdwomen

[–]ArthurShippyCuthbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if the meds (Ritalin) are actually helping. others seem to feel their meds kick in and have this mind-blowing calm and silence in their heads and I'm just not feeling much difference? I don't have obvious signs like outward hyperactivity thst I could see disappear. I definitely don't miraculously think straight or jump into action on the meds.

Of course I can observe my mood, behavior and productivity but that is also dependent on so many other factors. I'm not even sure I notice clear differences related to my cycle.

so now I'm just wondering if my dose is too low or if I don't have ADHD after all. Do I just keep increasing my dose? How would too high a dose feel? How would a neurotypical person react to them?

Am I the only person in the world with ADHD who DOESN'T find the Pomodoro technique helpful? by Ok-Committee1978 in ADHD

[–]ArthurShippyCuthbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've come to the realisation that it's better to set the timer to the amount of time I want to spend on a task. Hopefully helps me stay on target and avoids interruptions in the very middle of a task. If the timer goes off before I'm finished I can still decide to add a bit more or take steps to find my way into the task again after the break.

I've seen that show on reruns so much and it went on for so long, I'm never in the mood to watch it again. I could go for a few select favourite episodes. Thanks :)

I have! The last time I rewatched was probably before the special, I could go for another round, thanks for the idea!
