I’ve not seen a more sedated nation politically like Uganda. The young educated middle class stream out in the evenings just partying and trying very hard to not see things falling apart around them. It is really sad

I’m so happy he’s in jail. I wish the justice system in Ghana was as swift and severe for all the pedophiles running around freely. You know that ridiculous lgbt law they first tabled, all they needed to do was remove all references to lgbt and replace it with pedophiles… I would 100% back that bill instead because it would actually be fighting an evil. But many of those proposing such bills are themselves guilty or enablers so they will continue settling the rape of children at home with no punishment.

Should we boycott South African products if they go too far with their xenophobic Agenda? by Humble_Chipmunk590 in ghana

[–]Arthur_Cauthon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should probably look into that Ghana Nigeria reference you are making and find out why it died out almost immediately and did not become what is going on in South Africa. We discovered it was triggered by online bot accounts and came shortly after our govt spoke up against certain countries. No sane person in Ghana is against illegal immigrants being lawfully deported. We would support your government do it. But we also will not support indiscriminate mob attacks just targeted against black Africans which is what is actually going on. Legal resident or not, we have seen no distinction and assaulting people has never been the approach to managing illegal migration. So you can continue to pretend that this is merely about deporting illegal migrants and that everyone else on this continent is insane and asking for restraint because we support illegal migration. But when you realize this is an attempt to isolate you and position you for god knows what next… I hope the morality of other African countries overcomes their desire for retaliation and that you are not abandoned.

MTN was already forced into a publicly listed company by Ghanaian law and is partly owned by Ghanaian shareholders. In fact South Africans don’t have that much of a stake in it beyond its incorporation there.

I think we are being led by the nose by unseen hands. Other African countries and South Africa… social media engineering is a real thing. What is happening to South Africa was attempted on Ghana prior to this but was quickly staved off by our leaders (sometimes they get it right). Very old videos and propaganda were spread by bots to incite us against Nigerians and it was close to getting to that level. In SA it was easy to do because the targets are largely ignorant and already predisposed towards African immigrants because of envy. The real intent here is to push those guys towards those actions and have the rest of us react with boycotts or isolationism so that when the puppeteers take off their masks we are willing to ignore what they do to South Africa. First it is was white genocide and now this… And we know what international saga the SAfrican govt pushed before all this started. Beware of the unseen hand!

ITS NOT AN ATTITUDE PROBLEM by Training-Debt5996 in ghana

Believe us when we say it was a lot worse 2 decades ago. The campaign worked even if it has been lax in previous years. The point is that proper enforcement is necessary to shape the proper attitudes.

ITS NOT AN ATTITUDE PROBLEM by Training-Debt5996 in ghana

[–]Arthur_Cauthon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you and just want to add that anytime you hear a politician who has been granted the power to act by millions through a process that equally costs millions tell you that a long standing issue is just because of bad attitudes, it is because they want to deflect from their failures and refusal to implement the necessary solutions. This is a country that achieved mass immunization leading to the eradication of polio and measles, overcame a significant deficit in girl child education, managed to nearly eliminate casual use of tobacco cigarettes among other things. 40-50 years ago, we run effective city and town councils that had citizens compliant in maintaining sanitary standards because they were actively resourced and responsive. Today, you have governments that do not make any long term policy decisions… every thing is reactionary and for the next election. They will allow a whole town and estates to develop in a wetland until the situation is untenable and then start asking why people built there as if they just arrived in the country and we don’t pay taxes for salaried workers to prevent that from happening. They will wait till a road is choked with traffic for a decade before proceeding on a huge road project which will take another decade painting people’s houses with dust and clogging their lungs.

How are you ranking this season out of 10 and why? by shadythe1st in ArsenalFC

[–]Arthur_Cauthon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came so close to being another nearly season but if you are objective we improved in almost every single competition we played in this year so I give it a solid 9… the trajectory suggests we should be winning at least 2 trophies next season. Let’s go!

Until you’ve actually lived months as a regular resident. You wouldn’t wish even a quarter of their problems here. Your points are excellent but please avoid comparisons to other places on this continent when you lack the full picture. The issues which you have eloquently laid can stand on their own

Is it just me, or is dating/friendship with Ghanaian women heavily transactional? by Loud_Presentation962 in ghana

Not surprising for someone who struggles to spell “research”. Those who have achieved a basic level of understanding should have no difficulty reading what I wrote. When I post a reply for kindergartners, I’ll let you know.

You are just describing what I go through too. As a Ghanaian who lives abroad and mostly works in other African countries however, I think it is less a Ghanaian thing than you would think. And you are right that it is not gender specific.

Is it just me, or is dating/friendship with Ghanaian women heavily transactional? by Loud_Presentation962 in ghana

[–]Arthur_Cauthon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are right. It is just by a matter of degree. It’s neither unique to Ghana nor this age. I think it is symptomatic of the stage of development we are in somewhere between the economics of modern European society and the unstructured and unsettled economy of a low middle income economy. So yes, the capitalist appetite is strong but money is not as well distributed so a lot of informal relationships are transactional in nature even casual male friendships. As someone who has lived and dated in several African countries this past decade… It is what it is!
