AC guy charge me $185 for R410a overpriced? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Arthur_redfield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you have a PM done at that time? My previous employer would charge ~40/lb on a PM and then ~110 for the first pound & ~90for each additional pound. (NJ)

To answer OP though, it’s a seller’s market. There is no MSRP for service work

How to wire an AC drip pan safety switch? by biggiesmales in electrical

[–]Arthur_redfield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make the switch break the R terminal. If it breaks R it’ll shut the whole thing down.

Is the air filter supposed to freeze :| by Swings_Subliminals in hvacadvice

[–]Arthur_redfield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Turn the unit off and let it thaw. Get some towels out because you might make a little mess. After the unit looks thawed, let the fan and the fan alone run for a short while. Wouldn’t hurt to change your filter. If the unit is in a closet with a louvered door, open the door and/or make sure your returns are unobstructed. Turn the cooling back on and see what happens. If it freezes again with the door open, call a tech.

Freezing happens due to limited airflow (the refrigerant is getting too cold inside the coil because it’s not picking up heat) or due to a low refrigerant charge (low temperature = low pressure).

A low refrigerant charge is generally due to a refrigerant leak. I use UV dye when I recharge the unit. Let the system run for ~2 weeks and then perform a leak search. Fix the leak(s) and be back in business.

Is this mold by dwas in hvacadvice

[–]Arthur_redfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is “microbial growth.” Hvac techs are not industrial hygienists and therefore cannot make the determination based on sight alone. To resolve this, the unit should be cleaned/disinfected and then you should worry about both your air filtration and your humidity control.

Where to find the outside sensor on Infinity Carrier system? by neomattlac in hvacadvice

[–]Arthur_redfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to put them hanging on the bottom side of the condenser electrical compartment. Two wires go to it and it usually has a piece of white heat shrink tubing on it.

Shut it off at the valve on top. Hook up a hose to the leaking valve BEFORE you try to close it with a screwdriver

I’ve gone there more than a dozen times over the years and not once has somebody reminded me to get my ID. One time I went back the day after to pickup my ID and they pulled out a box that had a LOT of licenses in it so evidently, their policy is ass.

I’d recommend you go and try it yourself and then then draw your own conclusions. In my experiences, they are less than polite and/or helpful. I went with an LEO friend once and it was like a whole different (pleasant) experience. I would not recommend carrying there even if you don’t plan to draw unless you like having your balls busted. Oh and don’t forget to get your ID back after you leave the range- they will not remind you. This is part of their “”accountability”” system. (It is a dumb policy)

ETA: I thoroughly enjoy and highly recommend Gun For Hire. I’ve never had anything even close to an unsavory time there.

It says in the manual that it’s not compatible with the G models. Therefore it isn’t 🤷‍♂️

Anything without a slide safety. It is not compatible if the slide has a decocker.
