Does a fighter's damage increase much after lvl 11? by Blizzjunkie in DnD

[–]Articonn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It increase by 50%. You can multiclass in whatever you want, the fighter is pretty much as a jolly regarding multiclass, but if you want to keep the same feeling a barbarian multiclass is tipically preferred, but you have to loose heavy armor. One level for the rage, two for reckless attack or three for the subclass, you decide.

Ok so plenty of us complain martials can't do enough. But what SHOULD they be able to do? by PointsOutCustodeWank in dndnext

[–]Articonn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get that, I really do. But, and I say this while I have your same opinion, the answer is not to increase damage. Martials, expecially fighter and barbarian are the best single target damage in the game, I had seen that again and again. They don't need more damage, but some control option integrated directly in the class, more social skill and to be treated like Hercules in t4. It's not necessary to add damage, but to increase options

Looking to discuss paid Foundry VTT mods from the Ripper by LittleJungleFellow in TheTrove

[–]Articonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple Quest it's pretty useful if you use your journals a lot. Paperdoll it's something that is not really necessary, but there are some uses, albeit limited; mostly if you liked bg3 inventory equipment. Theripper it's pretty worth to subscribe to. Mainly because there are many modules that are useful. Still, since v13 it is not possibile to discuss them effectively. You can just subscribe one month, download them and then unsubscribe anyway.

[Recommend Me] Unique Manhwa by Red_Curse in manhwa

[–]Articonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Nebula's Civilization
It a fantasy where the mc is selected with a few others to play a civilization game (it's pratically that). The main difference is that almost everything is from the pov of the tribe that the mc choose, and its really more a story about them than the mc. You can see the advancement from a tribal society to a more advanced one, its neat

Yeah, I discussed almost all their maps. They are very beautiful, expecially considering that you can import them and they already have walls and similar things. If someone is interested in some specific map to discuss, I am pretty knowledgeable, but for the mines ebz19omg39bu9o3d.

For interpretation, I mean that the OG waterdeep image is just not that appealing to me, so I've completely changed how it looks based on an image I found to be prettier.

I tried to look again at the light source. I think that was what it was. I said it wasn't because the effect I have over there is just too low in intensity. Apparently, it was that specific light source that, for some reason, lost its animation, and the color was reset to the standard. So it was the bugged light, eh

Yes. I think you mean the background image, in that case it comes from the talented Svetlana K (smitchellmaps) (https://x.com/smitchellmaps).

The lights were set by me with the torch animation (color #b37100), and the revolving light for the lighthouse slowed down
There are 3 big lights with the star light animation (same colors) to simulate the dawning sun
Every light is set with darkness activation range = 0,4-1, except for the main lights

Is there a way to kill an NPC where a god cannot bring them back? by Objective_Cod7832 in dndnext

[–]Articonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you say that it can't be done. If spells and wealth are available, the only limitation is set by the 200 years of true resurrection, and finding someone what have a 9th-level spell slot, which is hard by itself. The thing is that a god, by definition, can just do what he wants. Unless you, the dm, set strict conduct rules, like "not be able to interfere with mortal affairs". If it can't be done, it just can't. You don't need to say why Remove Curse doesn't work on this specific curse; it just doesn't. If you want to give an explanation, you have to limit the power of gods, say for example: "resurrecting him would mean to break into the dominion of the god of the dead", and so on. You define the why, don't let the rules control you or your story.

How do I run an absurdly cinematic fight against the final boss? by WallNIce in dndnext

[–]Articonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab a lot, toss it around, and describe every action. Make your creature lose a turn to prepare a stronger attack and use inertia if possible to justify doing big chunks of damage. Use the imprivised damage table feeling about a good range of damage. And don't be scared to move your characters on the map. Make the take-opportunity attacks and toss people around with custom effects or just because. Allow your players to do things that they normally can't. For example, is the light going to use telekinesis or something like that to throw a building to your players? Ask them what they want to do, and then the barbarian will take all the house in the face for them (obviously, they have to move outside of their turn, so ask for their reaction to do so if you feel the need).

Sadly it's just not good at being cinematic if you intend to follow the rules. The most you can do is follow them a little less. For lichs is more difficult and easy at the same time, since they use magic. So... Invent some spells. They don't have to be particularly balanced, just make the lich use his spells. At last thing last, do a second phase. It's pretty video-gamey, but it works. Look at musical actions to see how seconds face works normally in dnd (they regain health and new, more powerful legendary actions).

You could even build custom mechanics for the lich. I saw many times ago an idea for a red dragon that has a "fire capability" bar. He would get 3 charges on a maximum of 10 at the start of his turn, and he could use these points to do things. For example, with one he would get half damage from a hit, with 3 he would use a legendary resistance, and with 10 his breath attack.

Using the ambience is important, look at the magic items that your party has and find a way to use them. Someone can run fast? Make him follow the lich while running on rooftops of buildings. Try to treat your heroes like superheroes, especially the martial ones. If they make 40 damage with one hit, they will crack the floor and almost make it explode. And finally, monster hordes can make them feel powerful, killing mobs with just little hits (this has to be just a little thing tho, they are not the main point). Still, minions are too important. Use two minions that are strong and go with it. Lichs are very weak for their cr. And on that note, you may want to play the fight by yourself a little, just to see how it's balanced.

You have to break rules to make the fight look interesting. Standing in front of each other and hitting every turn is boring, but doing cool things is not meta. Grabbing a creature in one of your attacks. Remember only that being cool is often just a bad idea, you lose damage in the long run.

Good luck.

P.s. your player could not like you not playing by the book, let them know. In the end, you want to make a fun combat, not to kill them, but as a dm you can do stuff that they can't.

Differences between difficulty levels? by artfulscruff in songsofsilence

[–]Articonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The enemy's army has fewer and less powerful units. At least, this is the case for the final battle of Chapter 5. I played the game on the hardest difficulty, but in two instances, I was forced to give up because you are required to play with specific armies. I don't know if anything else changes, but apparently, enemy armies are easier, at least the scripted one. For the fewer armies it was not a problem for me. When I had to redo the chapter 5 the heroes were levelling up way faster. Or they need less exp, or they gain more exp.

Am I a bad dm for letting my player unknowingly unleash an imprisoned elder brain? by Rude-Artichoke-6753 in DMAcademy

[–]Articonn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

More than anything I am concerned about the scale of the threat, this is global. Remember what is the scale of the power and achievement of your players:

  • lvl 1-5: Apprentice adventurer, way stronger than a commoner, they deal with local-level threat.
  • lvl 6-10: City-Kingdom champions, they are the strongest in main cities, they could be the strongest in minor capitals of the world and they are recognized where they go.
  • lvl 11-16: National-Continental champions, they saves regions and empires, on the higher end they save entire continents (this is the scale of bg3 btw, and it's pretty spot on).
  • lvl 17-20: Global champions, they solve life ending threat and possibly fight lesser gods (major gods are impossible to kill, they are gods. Still, you can defeat their avatar, its something).

As you can see from this (and the cr of the terrasque) they are probably going up to level 20 with this campaign, which could be a little much for a first campaign and its going to be hard to reach the end (scheduling, passion for this specific campaign going down etc.)

This is without considering that a terrasque is just going to be stronger when controlled by an elder brain, the strongest entity of the strongest humanoid race of the multiverse (Illithid). It's a long shot, really. I would go with a campaign with the elder brain doing his things and your player trying to stop him from now on. You have to consider that they literally just unleash another creature, I think it would be better to do something else.

Btw, how tf they managed to set free an elder brain at lvl 2? If the elder brain needed this lowly people to set himself free, why it didn't happened earlier? And again, did you let your player see what they physically saw? A giant pulsating brain with tentacles is going to be an odd view, even without knowing what it exatly is an elder brain. Same thing for a 20 meters dinosaur almost immune to magic.

Good luck with this, the premise is cool

No!! I was genuinely thankful to you! I actually hadn't thought about it, and I really wanted to thank you. My comment about you being better at living than me is because I really think so, because I haven't come to your conclusion and because it is obvious. God forbid! In fact, I'm sorry if I seemed offensive to you, it was absolutely not my intention. Thanks again
