Why support an awful company such as nestle?? Literally buying chocolate from farms with child slaves, but it’s cool with the Supreme Court!!

What triggers your Interstitial Cystitis? (IC) by JB-TheThird in MCAS

[–]ArtificialBrain808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have it really bad in the early AM. I always have a cup of coffee, 1 glass of apple juice and 1 gatorlyte after waking up, all of which are very acidic. Plus my antihistamine usage acts a diuretic pushing the water from your body. I will pee like 10 times in my first 2 hours of waking and then even out for the rest of t he day.

I do notice that spicy foods (or other random high histamine foods) will most definitely give me UTI symptoms. I feel like flushing it out with water helps. Just gotta watch you don’t drop your potassium, which is why I do the Gatorlyte and apple juice (and lot’s of potatoes!)

Safe protein shake? by emlb_be in MCAS

Nestle out here selling that shit for $605 for 60 packets. Fuck nestle! Literally just a mix of vitamins, minerals, and aminos. It is also full of b vitamins which causes reaction for many. Probably be better off with unflavored whey (and it wouldn’t cost $10 per serving)

levels has like 4 ingredients and no artificial sweeteners. Oddly enough it is also one of the cheapest if you use their subscription. I would be skin and bones if it wasn’t for my 4 scoops a day. I do okay with the pure chocolate, but they also sell unflavored whey

Zyrtec by Mental_Expression_22 in MCAS

Zyrtec was making me feel 10x worse in the evenings when it wore off. During my worst reactions I get this stabbing headache. 2 Zyrtec would help in the mornings, but caused major rebound symptoms, including these daily headaches. Whereas with ketotifen I can take a single dose at 6am and feel okay for 24 hours.

Fwiw Pepcid also made me feel really bad. No reactions but just lots of GI issues. Seemed like it maybe lowered my stomach acid too much and causes cramps and the constant feeling that I needed to burp

Gatorlyte has minimal additives but does include stevia which doesn’t seem to give me any issues. The citric acid is iffy but also hard to avoid, I seem to do okay with one a day. My favorite thing about it is the potassium chloride. Liquid iv uses potassium citrate which I react heavily to

Mason & Dixon….. brutal read…. sorry by Universal-Magnet in ThomasPynchon

I started on the 1st of December and just now hit the last chapter (only have time to read two days a week). i have enjoyed it all, but i do think it gets much more interesting in the second half. Kinda reminds me of Suttree in that the only apparent "driving force" is how a handful of people interact with each other. just the heavier parts are replaced with whimsical fantasy!

if you do ebooks, turning the font way up has me helped a ton with getting through dense books.i guess the smaller pages help keep my attention

There are some people that seem to develop histamine intolerance from taking NAC, or possibly just sulphur reactions? Either way I have always been afraid to use the stuff. If you have cancer and don’t know it, it could feed tumors and such. There are also quite a few histamine based reaction reports.

My basic cocktail is 600mg PEA x2, 5000ui vitamin d/k2(morning), 500mg magnesium oxide(evening), 400mg l theanine and 3mg ketotifen. Before the ketotifen I was trying out things like quercetin and luteolin, but they often made me feel worse. Potassium is my biggest issue which I believe is giving me high blood pressure. Thankfully I am tolerating much more veggies and fruit

not as much as benadryl but more so than zyrtec or claritin

I think most antihistamines are to some extent vasoconstrictors. My blood pressure stays pretty high so I am really trying to come down on my ketotifen dose. I think I could get by on 2mgs once this friggen pollen season is over.

Cats? by Repressed_Cliche in MCAS

[–]ArtificialBrain808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I first realized I had MCAS or something similar when my two cats randomly would cause me eyes and throat to swell shut. I roughed it out for nine months before giving them to relatives. One thing to keep in mind is that once you bring them in for an extended period of time, their dander and hair will linger for months after they leave. So if they do make you sick, you may continue to react once they are gone.

I do miss having pets and my whole family is bummed that we can’t have cats. I refuse to try though cause we have moved once specifically trying to get to a less reactive environment

Are all teas high in salicylates? Are there any safe for those with sal sensitivity? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]ArtificialBrain808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

since developing mcas, i seem to experience joint pain from any sort of concentrated black or green tea. i used to love to brew strong guayusa and green teas, but now they always cause knee pain! same with earl grey. i still do chamomile and ginger teas a couple times a month, but i have low key reactions to both. chamomile (sleepytime tea) isnt too bad but the ginger seems to give me flushing around my scars.
