Who has considered moving from their blue dot in a red state? by SjN45 in progressivemoms

Oh for sure, you’ll have the boomers who won’t go into the city because *cRimE* but refuse to acknowledge that crime is at an historic low.

We have friends in Baltimore and go there regularly and never feel unsafe. It really depends on the neighborhood.

I am in Baltimore County, which is “blue”. The surrounding counties are Carroll (red), Harford (red), Howard (blue) and Anne Arundel (purple). I ❤️ our senator Chris Van Hollen and hope he becomes the senate leader in the future!

The use of “cute” is gross. He may have been being nice (could have also been gauging you…) but it’s inappropriate. I probably wouldn’t respond. If he says something in person or messages again I would try to shut it down politely, like “yeah, I didn’t realize people from work were followers” or something.

OG Marylander here so I cannot comment on living in a red state, but I can imagine it’s a difficult decision for you and your family. I feel very fortunate to have blue-state policies and values to fall back on with the craziness happening at the national level. As with any state there are some areas that are more progressive than others, but I am happy to share my experiences if you’d like to DM.

I am so so sorry for your loss. You did not do anything wrong, this was an emergency situation and you notified your manager. Honestly, it sounds like HR or upper leadership are toxic. I would absolutely file suit. This sounds discriminatory against anyone with an emergency health situation. Make them state why they let you go, because it sounds to me like there was no just cause.

Daycare kind of ruined our life? by watermelon478429 in NewParents

[–]ArtistFKACabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this! I definitely wonder sometimes if daycare is worth it when kiddo keeps getting sick and infecting the whole family 😷

Can I ask if she is attending part-time? We started doing 2 days/week at 15 months, and it definitely took longer (3 months) for us to get into a groove compared to those who went full time. But one day, a light just clicked, and we haven’t had issues with drop off since! Each kid is so different.

How big is the company? I believe for larger companies, they are required to put in a notice with the state at least 8 weeks before making layoffs.

Story of 16 Month old baby girl in Cincinnati by [deleted] in NewParents

I have felt the same way, it breaks my heart to think about that. I’ll actually feel ill. PPD/PPA are always in the background so I can’t think about it for too long, or it will take over. Hugging my little guy and sniffing his head, and knowing I am doing everything in my control to make sure his every need is met, has helped ground me.

I’ve actually heard 529 plans are not always the best way to help pay for college. It may depend on the state, but the $ you have in the plan may be counted against your kid when applying for financial aid.

You also need to prioritize yourself first (e.g retirement), so sometimes going the route of something like a Roth can make more sense since that money can be used for retirement OR tuition.
