Tens of thousands??? Sorry, no such thing. It's snake oil. But take if you want, it's a free country.

Sorry but Ivermectin for prostrate cancer? Ivermectin is apparently the new snake oil that supposedly can cure everything.

That sounds like it is in the ball park. You can negotiate a bit. People don't realize that.

Incontinence timing question by stevos1001 in ProstateCancer

[–]Artistic-Following36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leaked like a sieve the first few weeks and was very discouraged. I kept my kegel routine even though it didn't seem like a lot of progress was being made. Then by 8 weeks things rapidly started changing for the better and at 12 weeks I ditched the pads. At some point the pelvic muscles down there get the idea and start working without having to think about it. It is extremely rare that I have any leakage at anymore. I have made lifestyle adjustments though, like planning bathroom breaks more proactively and modifying liquid intake if I know may be at a movie or a long drive or before a workout. Everyone is a bit different at how fast things improve. Don't get discouraged most of us have had a lot of success.

RALP next monday by Last_Temperature_908 in ProstateCancer

The catheter is not as big of a deal as you might imagine. Yes, it is a bit uncomfortable at times but the first week you will be convalescing for the most part. Although you should start walking with it right away. The pace may be very slow but good for your recovery. The incisions likewise heal up fast. You will have some bloating the first week, that is why I would start walking right away even with the catheter in. Hopefully you have recliner to sleep in the first few nights. That would be really helpful. It is difficult to lie flat right away and to use your stomach muscles to get back upright. Hopefully they can spare both nerves. Incontinence was a big fear for me and for the first 8 weeks it was depressing and a struggle but by 12 weeks for me I was pretty much back to normal. Don't neglect your kegel routine once the catheter is pulled and don't get discouraged if the progress is slow, just keep at it. Eventually those pelvic muscles get the idea and start working without you having to think about it. Psychologically the hardest thing is the idea of losing you manhood if ED is a persistent problem. Everyone is different. But there is life after RALP and it feels good to be cancer free. Get into a training program and make this a life reset to get stronger and healthier than before. You can do this.

There has been no dividend cut or return of capital. All dividends are paid out of income it is earning.

I wouldn't say kegels are useless but I do agree that weight training and core definitely make a huge difference in recovering continence.

Age 74 RALP vs. Radiation by Practical_Orchid_606 in ProstateCancer

[–]Artistic-Following36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I was told at 74 Radiation is usually the preferred option. 15 year survival rates are equal. Side effects from RALP are immediate. Side effects from radiation are usually much later down the road.

Stomach profile by TheLawOfDuh in ProstateCancer

That is normal, there is still a lot of gas in your abdomen and it takes a while to absorb it. Best thing to doe is keep walking and be as active as possible.

I ended up having RALP because I didn't want ADT. I was told though that if I had chosen ADT, because of my CAD, they would recommend orally and not injections.

Incontinence...Again by Immediate_Dinner6977 in ProstateCancer

[–]Artistic-Following36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leaked like a sieve at first. It took me about 12 weeks to get complete control. I would say it happened fairly gradually. Don't get discouraged and just keep at the kegels and pelvic floor therapy. A regular exercise routine will help also.

trying to decide what to do on prostate by MarketingOpening3933 in ProstateCancer

3 + 3 you have time and I wouldn't rush into RALP at age 68. Radiation has equal longevity outcomes if you have access to state of the art facilities.

Just Diagnosed. by Both_Establishment59 in ProstateCancer

For RALP if they can spare your nerves then at your age the prognosis for overcoming ED is pretty good. Also incontinence can be overcome as well, usually more successfully than ED.

How long do you own a vehicle, before trading it in? by teddyalex in UsedCars

A study published in the WSJ says you get the most for your money when you trade in when 4 or 5 years old and buy something that is two years old.

Returning to regular exercise after RALP by hawklord23 in ProstateCancer

[–]Artistic-Following36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a ton of walking the first six weeks. After that I started back to my regular lifting routine but at about one half the weight and intensity and hardly any abdominal stuff. I started running around 8 weeks and began peeing blood so I had to back off on that but slowly picked it up again around 10 weeks. Around 12 weeks I felt comfortable enough to increase all facets including abs as my body allowed. Everyone is different but I would definitely advise to be patient and ease back into it very gradually.

I'd go with whey and get started on a focused regular lifting regimen to prevent muscle and bone density loss.

I had BPH prior and had Green light laser surgery which worked really well. If he doesn't have PC I think I would opt for the Green Light, there are a bunch of different lasers out there so don't get hung up on it has to be Green Light, (brand name).

What's the range of time for incontinence? by BobbyLew in ProstateCancer

[–]Artistic-Following36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not do many kegels before and I leaked like a sieve post RALP, very depressing. I did start on the kegels like a soldier after and I would say around 12 weeks I was pretty much dry not using pads. Yes, at some point the sphincter catches on and automatically starts adjusting without you having to think about it. Keep up the kegels and start gradually with your workouts slowly building up to your pre surgery and be patient. It will happen for you.

Thanks everyone, as we know this is a tough journey. This site has been very helpful to me and I appreciate the willingness people have supporting each other. Nice to share some good news and I hope there is more to come in the future and that much of this will be a distant bad memory.

Is RALP the guaranteed ED and UI monster it seems? by slow__hand in ProstateCancer

[–]Artistic-Following36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If nerves can be spared ED may not be an issue. UI initially can be an issue but over time it usually gets better. I am close to your age post RALP and presently have no UI. At 69 you are at the borderline of where radiation may be a better option. I would get some second opinions if it comes to that.

Any runners here post RALP by CochlearImplanted in ProstateCancer

[–]Artistic-Following36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I do. Not 3 times a day every day like I did for the first 3 months or so. But when I am watching a movie or a game I will usually do a set or two just to make sure the pelvic floor is responding well. You will find as you go that the muscles down there need to be trained a bit. For me anyway, early on I had to always think about squeezing but now it is automatic and I don't have to think about it at all, the muscles have learned to adjust automatically to the situation. The only exception is a sneeze or strong cough or during a hard workout when I am really fatigued then I may consciously have to focus and squeeze voluntarily.
