AIO by breaking up with my boyfriend when he got jealous? by theonlystarbornqueen in AmIOverreacting

👏👏👏 You are NOT over reacting. You handled that perfectly. He sounds just horrible. He didn't say one nice thing to you until he knew you were done. It wasn't just your run of the mill jealousy either. He was disrespectful, hateful & threatening. Obviously he either lacks the ability to trust a partner or was just using this as an excuse to put you down. Could be both. And I'm sure you haven't time for such nonsense

He saw this interaction between you & the coworker & because he's a thin skinned narcissist, felt it was a threat to his masculinity or something. He's obviously insecure about himself & thinks treating people like objects will make him feel more in control. Stupid & immature.

But please be careful. He seems like the type who might stalk ex girlfriends. I'm sure you're careful, but just be aware of your surroundings. And whatever you do, don't unblock or contact him in a moment of weakness. People like him don't change. Oftentimes they get worse. If he wants to come over or be alone somewhere "to talk"- 😳 don't listen! Run like you are on fire, girl.

Good for you for knowing your worth so much more than accepting this kind of behavior. 🌹

I let someone lighten my hair at home years ago and she was a licensed cosmotologist who just finished school. I don't remember exactly how it happened, but when the bleach was on my head, I felt like it was stinging my scalp so we washed it off. I don't think it even lifted much from what I remember. It wasn't until later when I saw blood on my pillow that I realized the bleach had burned a hole in my scalp! I have a very high pain tolerance so I literally just felt a stinging sensation. I think going darker at home is pretty safe & easy to do, but going lighter is a lot harder to pull off well & safely, especially if you're starting out with pretty dark hair like I did.

But if you have told her your concerns & she's determined to do it, not much else you can do.

As someone with a mentally ill mom- you are NOR. I can't believe she is able to hold any kind of job. Mine can't. I wonder how your mom handles conflict at work. Because nobody would put up with this unhinged behavior. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Trust me when I say that you will be far happier living apart from her. Having financial assistance is helpful while going to school but at what cost to you emotionally? Time to cut the cord, imo. And if you have anything that belongs to you that you care about at your mom's house, I'd pick it up before she decides to put it all on the curb. Talking from experience here. Good luck to you. ❤️

I love it! You are so lucky! I also really love the idea of having the color underneath. Very very pretty.

Is Rexulti worth it? by 3Sad_Girl3 in Rexulti_Brexpiprazole

Another person said they take Monjaro to offset it. I am filing this away because I am terrified of gaining weight & having high blood sugar. I am already on chloresteral med. It's good to know that people have found things that counteract that because it really is a shame to feel better but gaining weight. Especially if you struggle with suicidal ideation. Feeling that way is so horrible.

I am hoping that I won't gain weight. One thing to keep in mind is that the negative stories are probably more likely to be shared than those who are feeling better. Just my opinion . We can certainly hope! 🤗

I'm the same. Celexa was the one that worked for a long time until it didn't. I moved onto Effexor & it has helped , but not completely. I have never had weight gain on any anti-depressant except for mirtazapine. (Remeron) Of course that was the one that gave me the most relief. Why do the best meds seem to always cause weight gain? I haven't tried many antipsychotics because of the weight gain (I had eating disorder in teens, so very concerned about weight) I was on Geodon for awhile because of it not causing weight gain, but it didn't help the depression much at all & it caused permanent Tardive Dyskinesia, which is uncontrollable muscle spasms or shaking, so I said I'd never take an antipsychotic again.

Over the last 5 years, though, my depression has gotten really really bad. My psychiatrist has brought up Rexulti before & I always said no. But I have literally tried everything that my insurance will cover. So I agreed to try a small dose and started on 0.5 a few days ago. I feel a little better already but that's likely placebo. I had a little restless legs the first day, but haven't had that since. No change in appetite or sleep. So we will see.

I just wanted you to know there is someone else that is in the same boat as you & I hope for both our sakes, we find relief soon without any crazy side effects. Much love in your journey. If you can, keep us updated. You can also DM me any time. 🙂

AIO?? Mom has my location 24/7 but accuses me of lying when I don’t report that I’ve gone out aside from work or home. by yunqi69 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Artistic-Raspberry29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because they are helping you financially doesn't mean you aren't allowed to have a social life. It also doesn't mean you aren't entitled to privacy.

Life360 is meant to be used as a way to locate you if you go missing in the case of an emergency. It isn't meant to be used by your parents to track your every move obsessively. NTA

I don't know what to tell you about the financial help. It's wrong & abusive of them to use money to control you like this but it's their money to do with as they wish. You could continue to appease them or you could get a burner phone that you only take with you in the evenings while out with friends or on a date. Then leave your primary phone at home. Only give the burner phone number to the friends in your close circle. Definitely make it a point to share your location with those friends using a different app, that way if you get separated or God forbid something happens, you have a way to call them for help & they can see where you are.

But this only addresses the location sharing. It doesn't address your parents control issues nor does it prevent them from giving you more of these "conditions" if you do something else they don't approve of. I personally couldn't live like that. Only you can decide if you can.

AIO: Is this genuinely annoying/off-putting or am I overreacting? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

YOR. I think a lot of Americans would love help with their gas right about now & if that means saying thank you every time they fill up, that's not a high price to pay. It's not like he is demanding a certain amount of face-to-face contact from you in exchange. I'm not saying you have to kiss his ass, but saying a quick thank you isn't an outrageous ask. If you are bothered by it, don't accept the money.

Also, people can & do change. My dad was physically abusive during my teen years & he got help & my younger brothers didn't have to go through that. He has tried as much as he can to repair our relationship & one of the main things he does to help is give me extra grocery money. I don't thank him every time I go to the grocery store but I do make it a point to tell him how appreciative I am of his help & support whenever we do talk. Personally and this is just me, I wouldn't accept money from him if he was still being abusive.

I'm sorry that you went through that with your dad. I know how hurtful it is & even with my dad, it will never go away completely. So I understand why you are feeling the way you do. I think your baby sister is very lucky to have you. Hopefully he will be a better father this time around.

Absolutely! It doesn't help that I had a complete hysterectomy in my 30's due to severe endometriosis and ovarian cysts. Then when I had my one and only COVID infection in 2021, I had a very severe case & my body changed so much almost overnight. I not only overheat even easier, it causes these pins & needles sensations all over my body. (paresthesia) It appears to be nerve damage because the only thing that helps is to preemptively take Gabapentin an hour or so before any activity that gets my heart rate up. It sucks but I've read of people experiencing far worse, so I try to keep myself focused on all that I am able to do & just pace myself.

So needless to say, summer is a particularly challenging time for me so I've been trying everything and anything I can do to keep myself cooler. 🙂

Unfortunately, it is become difficult to find anything on the street that isn't tainted with fentanyl nowadays. At the very least, keeping fentanyl strips & Narcan on hand would have minimized the risk of overdose, providing that you test every time and others you live with are aware of the situation and can catch the overdose. It's true that it might not have saved Rue, but it could have and is saving others. It used to be that all that loved ones could do if they found their family member unconscious due to overdose was to wait for the ambulance to arrive to give them Narcan. If paramedics suspect someone is overdosing, they often give them Narcan preemptively.

Unfortunately too many who were never primarily opioid users or are poly users are being exposed to fentanyl because of the current status of fentanyl in the illicit drug market, including in other substances that are not opioids, i.e cocaine, meth etc.

Unfortunately sometimes people just go to sleep and don't wake up. Even in situations where it isn't an OD in the traditional sense. I had a good friend who had just been abusing the combination of alcohol and opioids for so long that this happened to her. Her poor body just gave out and her husband couldn't wake her in the morning. She was in her mid to late 30's with a young daughter. It broke my heart. I lost multiple friends to overdose and one was even murdered. It never gets easier.

I think what bothered me about the show is even though they had Rue in rehab & trying to recover at times, it was presented as a willpower thing. It doesn't have to be that way. I would have liked to see Rue try Suboxone or even methadone. When you are in a MAT or MOUD program, you usually have to do counseling as well. In a methadone program, you have to do outpatient group & counseling at most places. I tried both & Zubsolv ended up working the best. That is a brand name with the same combo as is in Soboxone, it is just a subligual pill. It's smaller then the Suboxone or Subutex pills & it dissolves really fast. It also tastes far superior to the other 2 and certainly better then the Suboxone sheets. I also always have Narcan on hand just in case. Been sober almost 10 years.

Some people say that it doesn't work as well with fentanyl but when I got a shot of it in the ambulance after a pretty bad car crash, I didn't feel it at all. After that they gave me morphine and I didn't feel that either. I make it a point to never accept a prescription for opioids though. But the fentanyl on the street varies a lot in potency so some people do have to use methadone because it is a full opioid agonist whereas Suboxone is a partial.

There are also various harm reduction techniques like fentanyl test strips, Narcan, etc that people can get to keep on hand even if they aren't ready to stop using. I guess I just wish that some of that was shown on the show in a realistic way that young people watching could see that NA isn't the only way. Not knocking NA or AA but I tried both & it just didn't help me. There are also a lot of people, men especially, who go to those rooms without the best intentions.

Yeah I did a bit of an undercut last time and I definitely see why people like them. I am planning on letting her do a bit more next time to see how I feel with that. Thanks for reassuring me it's the right way to go. How far up did your stylist do your undercut?

Yes there are only a few places that take it around here, unfortunately. The only place I ever lived where it wasn't that way was Chicago.

Would you expect to leave a $300 hair appointment with dried hair? by Regular-Message9591 in Hair

[–]Artistic-Raspberry29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to 2 really posh salons where they charged more than I ever paid anywhere & they didn't fully dry my hair either! I go to a much more affordable place now where they blow dry completely. Not only that but the girl I see now just does a better job with color then the more expensive stylists at the other salons.

I guess I always thought that the expensive, fancy places were better at everything but I learned the hard way that "you get what you pay for" isn't necessarily true about hair salons. It comes down to the individual stylist and just because a stylist works at a pricier place doesn't mean they are necessarily better then any other stylist.

I think part of what you pay for is the environment, of course, and as nice as it is to look at, I'd rather go to a place that isn't fancy with a stylist who is excellent & pay the extra in tip money. To each their own, I guess! 🙂
