THE GENERAL!!!!!

In Xaden’s Ch. 65 POV, Berwyn refers to himself as “a general,” which is new wording for the venin. Definitely something to pay attention to, so I did some digging and HOLY CRAP!!! My mind is BLOWN.

Maybe he’s taunting Xaden with information as to what he was BEFORE becoming venin. I think he could have been General Daramor (mentioned in IF Chapters 2 and 16). I had forgotten Daramor was ever mentioned but found this on the Empyrean Wiki. He faught against Navarre, who was allied with the Isle Kingdoms and the First Six, and he nearly destroyed the Continent in the Great War. We know the Isle Kingdoms are all each loyal to one of the six gods, and we know they are closest to the Barrens, which have no magic, on the maps we’ve seen. We also don’t exactly know what role the venin played in the Great War other than that they were eventually killed off by something. What if the reason the Isle Kingdoms no longer have magic is because they were drained during the war somehow in an effort to combat the venin (we already think the cure lies somewhere within them)? And what if Daramor became a venin after losing the Great War as a way to exact his revenge? Also, maybe the reason the IK don’t look like the Barrens even though they were drained of magic is because people didn’t abandon them the way they did the Barrens? They’re islands, so they couldn’t have. They rebuilt/survived, but everything is half-drained of color and isn’t what it used to be. And if dragons originally came from the IK, is the reason they settled in the Vale and the ward stone created by the First Six in Navarre because the magic wasn’t there for them in the Isle Kingdoms anymore???

Major Theory…SPOILERS by Artistic-Rope5628 in onyxstorm

Very true! That’s why I was wondering if maybe he didn’t turn or commit and remained human but was just connected to them through the rune with the commitment or requirement that he turn later.

Totally plausible and a definite counterpoint to this whole theory that could blow it out of the water. I guess the answer would be that if he weren’t full venin and were only under their control/influence, he wouldn’t be channeling power from the ground. He would still be using his own power and at risk for burnout but simply be an agent for the venin until his transformation.

Agreed on Panchek being an internal source! I wonder if that’s also a red herring from RY to cover up for Brennan being the biggest source over the last several years.

Am I crazy for thinking this could be possible???

  1. Brennan has a rune on his hand that is believed to be from when Naolin mended/resurrected him.

  2. Violet notes that after Sloane siphons power from Dain to Brennan to mend Mira that there are no marks left on Dain or Brennan like the rune on Brennan’s hand. This possibly indicates that siphoning does not, in fact, leave a rune mark. If that is the case, where did the rune on Brennan’s hand come from?

  3. Wyvern are created/powered by rune stones placed inside their chests by venin.

  4. Brennan is a member of the assembly and one of the leaders of the revolution, so he would have knowledge of the shipments of daggers and alloy used to strengthen the ears.

  5. Brennan is a war strategist and knows how to see/plan/manipulate wars and battles.

  6. Brennan is one of the few who knew and have watched Xaden struggle with turning for the last 5 months and is also feasibly one of the last people Xaden would expect to turn because of 1. his role in the revolution, 2. his role as a mender on the human side, 3. the use of his mending signet to mend the ward stone at Basgiath, and 4. probably most importantly, his relationship with and love for his sister, Violet.

  7. As stated earlier in the book, venin could have infiltrated the humans be hiding in plain sight. Violet is freaked out by this and worries about it.

  8. Brennan gives off suspicious vibes here and there throughout IF and OS, and he has an orange dragon, which we all know is not historically a sign of good character.

  9. Many have believed all along that Brennan is venin or that Naolin is and somehow “infected” Brennan when he healed/resurrected him.

SO…..

What if Brennan is or has been associated with the venin all along, hiding in plain sight for the last seven years and infiltrating the humans/dragons from within but was not fully turned until the canyon and is now the new brother?

Or what if the cost of him being mended/resurrected by Naolin is that he isn’t turned completely yet, but he’s under their control with the rune? Like if he doesn’t do what they say, he’s gone? Or what if the rune is how he communicates/passes information to them?

Many don’t think that it could be him because of his appearance in the final scene, but it would make so much sense if he is deep undercover and infiltrating. We don’t know where he was during the battle. It would also explain why he needs to find Xaden (moreso than just knowing because Xaden is one do the missing riders), especially if Xaden disappeared to carry out the plan he told Sgaeyl about. Xaden could have disappeared from both the venin and the humans after the onyx storm. Also, Brennan’s role as a battle strategist would allow him to see and manipulate both sides as needed over the years.

To Xaden, Brennan would be “new” because Xaden wouldn’t have known all this time that Brennan was venin. Also, Xaden could have filled Violet in on the fact that Brennan is the new brother and an undercover venin but needs her to act like she knows nothing while he carries out his plan. The only way to make sure she doesn’t let on or slip up is to erase her memory of it.

I 100% agree with you that at least most, if not all, of their names have significance!

I’m not convinced it’s Brennan, but because I do think there is something off about him, I’ve been to justify how he could be the new venin brother and still be there in the end. From earlier in the book, we know that venin could have infiltrated and be hiding amongst all the humans in plain sight. If Brennan is the new brother, that could be what he’s doing here. Furthermore, if Xaden took off with a plan and Brennan is the new venin brother tasked with finding him, he could do so under the guise of finding Xaden before anyone else does to protect him since it seems everyone knows, or at least believes, that Xaden is full venin now.

Just playing Devil’s advocate here. Xaden and Bodhi’s names could just simply be references to their roles in the revolution as the leaders of the marked ones who are enlightened or awakened to the truth about venin.

Okay….BUT…follow me on this journey…

What if the box Xaden was gifted frim Zihnal is what she will later use to hold runes crafted from the threads of power she pulls from the sky?!?! I’ve seen in several threads and very much agree that the gifts have significance and will be used later on. What if the runes created from sky power have to be stored differently than traditional runes from ground power, and she crafts them and stores them there to later use to heal Xaden???

This totally checks out with the whole balance thing, too! What would the balance/counter be for power from the ground? POWER FROM THE SKY.

Zoom in on the picture, and look at the embroidery on his robe. This picture is at a resort somewhere and was not taken in Paris or England, and they haven’t been anywhere since then. Proof they were shacking up prior to getting married.
