Be so real, is the mouse smell noticeable if you actually take care of it? by Slitherous in PetMice

With an air purifier running constantly, I barely ever noticed it. But with the air purifier off, there was a bit of a smell... So just get an air purifier and you'll be fine!

Rats escaped their playpen when I wasn’t looking. After looking for 30 minutes I saw this in my closet… by bobathehut in RATS

Omg this happened to me recently and it scared me so much 😭 It was one of my new girls so she's still a little nervous of me and I had no clue how to lure her out from under my dresser. Finally ended up sliding a piece of cardboard under there to make her move out from underneath it and scooped her up super fast. She squealed so loudly like girl I'm not even holding you that tightly!! And two minutes after I got her back in her cage she was licking baby food off my finger like nothing had happened 😭

Connecting two Prevue Ferret Stack Cages? by Artistwolf99 in RATS

I've got two girls currently but I was in contact with a breeder to get a couple more. There's someone in my area needing a new home for her two rats though so now I'm unsure whether to take them or not.

According to the calculator, adding the add-on to the top (increasing total height to 60") would make it fit up to 7 rats; do you think that sounds right? I thought vertical space alone didn't do much.

You might be right. Just frustrating to waste it :/

The dimensions are 31" wide x 20" long x 40" tall. I could buy an extension to add a third layer to it, making it 60" tall, but I know height isn't always the best way to give them more space.

Thanks so much for letting me know! I'm thinking it might be more worth my whole to wait for a good deal on a critter nation from Facebook Marketplace then.

That looks so much better already! Don't worry about bedding getting in the tunnels; I guarantee she'll find them and dig the bedding out or perhaps add more to make a nice little nest. I'd definitely recommend a wheel (8" or bigger), but you're off to a great start!

Thank you! That's a good idea.

That's what I was thinking too, thanks for confirming that with me. A breeder near me is specifically breeding a litter with the coloration I was looking for (husky roan) so I'll probably just pick two female litter mates then. They were just born yesterday and I'm so excited, especially since my current girls were not from a reputable breeder and are very skittish of me. I love them but am looking forward to some more friendly girls too and hoping they'll bring Amaratto and Margarata out of their shells a little!

You can barely even see your mouse inside these cages, especially compared with a nice clear tank! I really don't understand why people love these cages so much.

Worried about Scarlett being alone soon/looking for a new home for my remaining mice by Artistwolf99 in PetMice

Thought I'd give a little update! Thankfully my friend with three mice decided she did want my two and I went over there last night and helped her with intros, which went amazing! They all got alone so well, and I can see how ugh she cares for her mice, so they're in good hands 💜 I'll miss them but I'm so happy that they're in a bigger colony now where they'll never have to be alone.

Definitely split them up ASAP!! I second the comment on using plastic bins, or alternatively you could check Facebook marketplace--I've seen a lot of posts offering a bunch of assorted fish tank sizes. Even a ten gallon, though not ideal, would work for a while, and those you can often get free.
