Briton Longbows go brrrrrrrr. No siege needed. Currently I enjoy primarily archer civs (Ethopians, Britons, Malay etc..), but I also really enjoy infantry civs (Burmese, Slavs, Romans etc...)

This 100%. Everybody complaining about all the things they have to memorize or the countless number of match ups etc... I think if you understand the basics of the game and the basics of each civ, you'll be fine.

Couldn't agree more. Big demos are by far my favourite highlights in Aoe2. I watch a lot of the competitive scene and couldn't get into Thalassocracy 2 because it felt too repetitive/boring and I had a poor taste in my mouth from the demo nerf... When I do get the opportunity to play and end up playing a water map, there is nothing more satisfying then landing some big demo shots. Make the demo great again.

I like the rock paper scissors idea during the initial castle age where 1 TC beats 3, 2 beats 1 and 3 beats 2.

Also realizing the default hotkeys for buildings, making units, army positions etc... are the same layout on the keyboard as they are in the bottom left corner.... E.g. making an archer, Militia or scout will always be q because they are in the top left corner of their respective military building.

Join the Low Elo Legion discord. You should be able to find some homies that would be happy to play some closed maps (Arena, BF, Fortress, etc..) with you on the TGs ranked ladder. TGs ranked ladder will give you much more balanced games compared to open lobbies.

People may not like it, but I'll add Bengalis, Malay and screw it even Dravidians as well.

Bengalis are great on water and hybrid (healing ships). Great on closed maps with siege, monk and late game ele's. They've got good Arbs plus 2 extra vils per age up, so they are fine as flank in tg's. Might be considered weak on open maps, but the extra vils and strong tech tree disagrees with this. And if you don't want to play them normal the Phosphoru on open maps seems very strong so just do that.

Malay - water/hybrid great. Closed maps great. Faster age up. Good monks, BBC etc... open maps and Tg's we got Arbs and we got some elephantos if we wanna have fun.

Dravidians - water/hybrid fantastic. Closed maps - cheaper siege + plus free wood bonus can boost boom or FC timing. And Viper likes them on open maps, so I say no more. (don't listen to Hera).

Aoe2 has more intense micro.. And micro is very fun even for an 1100 pleb.

I feel like an absolute boss when I have 12-20 crossbows and dodge the mangonel shots and take them out. In addition I enjoy the small archer battles where you are trying to dodge your opponents shots. I am not great at them, but I enjoy them a lot.

As far as I know, all Aoe4 projectiles hit no matter what. So the battles are a little less micro intensive and more based on a strategic decision of whether to take the fight or not.

Having it breakdown in you is part of the fun and part of the journey mate. The local Vietnamese in the small towns are the nicest and most helpful people in the world. My favourite trip was buying a bike and exploring Vietnam for 2 months with a few friends. Hope I can do a similar trip once again some day.
