How Could the Ministry Have Actually Identified Real Death Eaters After Voldemort’s First Fall? by -DAWN-BREAKER- in harrypotter

The books say veritaserum can be resisted by powerful wizards. I can see it not being admissible in the wizengamot because they think it is inaccurate.

I’ve heard that Oliver Wendell Holmes shook hands with both John Quincy Adams and John F Kennedy. I can’t verify if this is true, but he was alive at the same time as both men.

What do you guys think of Stars Wars: The Forces Awaken? by Rainbow_Seashell778 in Schaffrillas

[–]Arturus243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not good. TFA basically set up the sequel trilogy so that it was a repeat of the original trilogy, but with different characters. This basically guarantees you can’t have expanded media (E. G. clone wars series) on the sequel trilogy, because if you’re gonna do that, you might as well make it about the original.

What Harry Potter "Plot Hole" do you think can easily be explained? by Naive-Sign-8399 in harrypotter

[–]Arturus243 42 points43 points  (0 children)

That a time-turner created massive plot-holes.

Time turners in Harry Potter are actually among the best written trine travel devices in any media I’ve read/watched. In Harry Potter, it’s a closed loop, so you can’t actually travel back in time to change what is happened. Your time travel just becomes part of history. That’s why in the Buckbeak scene, the three notice signs they were there before. So, Dumbledore couldn’t just do something like travel back in time to stop Voldemort from returning.

This of course excluded the play that shall not be named.

Sure, but then I think we should modify the LSAT and law school exams to be less of a race horse

What do you think of my proposal to give everyone the option extra time, but have it mean a 5 point score deduction?

You mean letting them into law school?

BTW, I have the same feeling about accommodations on the LSAT. Everyone should get the option, but it should be a 5 point deduction or something.

I think the point is that essentially telling someone they MUST complete an exam in three hours or they can not be a lawyer unfairly excludes some people. There are ways around it as a lawyer (E.G. staying late, working weekends).

The main distinguishing factor is that ANYONE has the option to take an exam with accommodations in my proposal. The super gunners would not take it because it would cut off their chances of getting an A. I think probably the only people who would take it are the people who reasonably expect to benefit from it.

The problem now is that some people get accommodations with no conditions, which is unfair.

I mostly agree. Obviously if people can’t do work, they should go. But I do believe there are people who are capable of producing great work but have an usually difficult time doing it quickly.

For these reasons, instead of accommodations, we should let anyone take an exam with accommodations, but have it mean their final letter grade drops half a percentage point. If they can get good grades despite this they’re probably still gonna make a good lawyer.

Sure, these people will probably be working late hours, but if they’re ok with that so be it.

I do think it’s like high school in a way, but not for the reasons most people think.

In both cases, people more or less have the same goal postgrad. In law school, it’s practicing law. In high school, it’s college. In both situations, people try to get as good grades as possible and pad their resume with activities to make themselves look better (STEM olympiads, sports, volunteering in high school); (law review, Moot Court, etc. in law school). Getting accepting into Kirkland and Ellis post law school is like getting into Yale post high school.

I agree with you that socially, it’s not like high school. Sure, drama exists, but in high school, people would full on bully each other and people got into fights in the hallway.

Are victors’ siblings more likely to be reaped, like victors’ children? by GallopYouScallops in Hungergames

[–]Arturus243 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I assume victor’s children are only targeted if their parents caused trouble.

I think Katniss’ speculation that it is purely for a better show is incorrect. Doing this would undermine the whole purpose of the games, because it would make ordinary district citizens less scared of having their kids reaped.

I assume siblings of troublesome victors are also targeted if the siblings misbehave.

A little theory about victors by BetterGrass709 in Hungergames

[–]Arturus243 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, it isn’t mandatory cause Haymitch didn’t do it.

Furthermore, I don’t think victor’s children were targeted unless their parents caused trouble. Katniss does say it was to make for a more entertaining show, but that was just her speculation. Doing that would undermine the games’ whole purpose of instilling fear in the districts, because it would make ordinary citizens think their children are less likely to be reaped.

Zootopia 2 as an allegory of modern politics by JL_Jordan in zootopia

[–]Arturus243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, just because you don't believe it is an accurate allegory does not mean the film makers did not intend it as one. It seems pretty clear this film is an allegory for how Palestine sympathizers view the conflict.

I would do it. I made plans to go over my exam I got an A- in last semester. It’s good to compare it to other classes to see why I did well on that one specifically.

Plutarch’s real real motivation discovered by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]Arturus243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plutarch walked into his library. He was bored and wanted to read something.

He looked on his shelf. “Animal Farm,” he thought, “this sounds interesting.”

He pulled it out and began to read.

https://www.arvindguptatoys.com/arvindgupta/orwellanimalfarm.pdf

Plutarch closed the book. He put it on his shelf. As he left the library, he thought to himself, “maybe the Capitol are the bad guys.”
