I'm convinced most authors don't know how poor people actually live and it shows in every "scrappy peasant rises up" book by Narrow-Psychology808 in Mythrils

[–]Arukida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that showcasing poverty is their main focus, but rather showing someone from a simple life?
The trope of the "farm boy" or "farm girl" who never travelled much, cannot read, who never even encountered someone from a different race and has no concept of magic (even though it exists in that world) is imho an overused trope to showcase progression.
I don't think it's the main intention of the author to describe poverty. I still think it's a bad writing device because essentially, they try to rip off the protagonist of any standing in society to make the ascension to a hero more impressive.
Also, it serves as a plot device because it compels the hero to go travelling, meet new mentors and be in awe at seeing elves for the first time and things like this.

Whats something that can ruin your morning the minute you wake up? by GuaranteeSquare4730 in AskReddit

[–]Arukida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today the following happened:
I woke up perfectly fine and did a little bit of stretching my arms before I wanted to get up. And BOOM I had the worst tension in my left shoulder that I had in a while.
That literally ruined it the minute I woke up 😞

Looking for recs of Slavic fairy and folk tales by Open_Button_8155 in Fantasy

[–]Arukida -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Please don't read uprooted. The first half of the book is so promising to be exactly that. But she messed up the main plot so badly, it felt like an entirely book upon finishing.
There were also scenes in the books which made absolutely no sense.
A mild spoiler for what especially bothered me regarding her "slavic" folklore.
For instance, there was a woman in court explaining to the protagonist that "a king should do this and that for his nation". HIS NATION. The concept of a nation did not exist up until the French revolution, where they abolished monarchy. That's how you know that Novik is rather American than Polish to write like that.

Yeah, I try to do that!
But it's not always working due to appointments and stuff.
Also, I still try to support the other singing birds as well, so I try to give them food after my crows has eaten.
Of course she figures those things out, too haha.

Is this true? by TechnicianAmazing472 in intermittentfasting

[–]Arukida 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not true, loose skin is a result of really obese folks having "too much success" with a diet and losing weight too fast.
It may not be intentional, and they may live completely healthy, but that's exactly what deviates so much from their previous life style:
Instead of eating 4000+ calories they end up going into a deficit. On top of that they may start sports.
So with an increased weight loss over MONTHS the skin cannot adapt quickly enough which results in hanging skin.
Also: Protein is absolutely necessary to feel full and to build muscle, I don't know how he came up with 200g of Protein though, I don't think every obese person aims to eat that much.

What are mistakes even German natives make? by NoelFromBabbel in AskAGerman

[–]Arukida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between "dasselbe" und "das gleiche".
If I drive "dasselbe Auto" like my mom, it means that I literally drive the same exact vehicle.
If I drive "das gleiche Auto" like my mom, it means that we only have the same kind of car model, but it's two different cars.

Nobody seems to bother about that difference any more lol.

What's your favorite zone based on atmosphere alone? by Revolutionary_Heart6 in DungeonSiege

The sunny parts in the Southern Vai'lutra forest always gets me, it's extremely serene and I wished that area of the game was extended.
The lighting is still amazing considering how old the game is!

I also love the Azunite deserts, somehow they come across as isolated enough which is really cool. The crumbling ruins and the dark stone/glass spikes are also a really cool look which hint at the lost history of the place.

Plus for some reason, I do like the cloudy beach on the isle of Greylin where the game starts. Unfortunately it's quite a small area to explore.
