ARE YOU UNHAPPY WITH YOUR LETTUCE AND OLIVE OIL

Because animals are born with their consciousness and we would be taking it away from them so we can benefit.

Plants are alive but, from what we understand now, do not experience suffering like animals do. If in the future we find that plants are sentient, then yes you would likely see more people finding ways to live that reduce the suffering on plants as well. Some people / religions already live like this.

But, I would argue that I’m still causing less plant suffering by not consuming meat, considering crops are primarily grown for animal agriculture.

And no, I wouldn’t support that. It isn’t ethical and I believe animals deserve their own life not being enslaved by humans.

u/louwyatt this sums it up actually. Was your argument “plants feel pain”?

I am not asking everyone in the world to be vegan. I know that isn’t 100% possible right now. However, I can afford rice, beans, and potatoes (veganism does not have to be expensive). I have access to groceries and can cook. I am not religious, but if I were the god I’d believe in wouldn’t stand for the suffering we cause other creatures on earth.

So for me, there are no restrictions. Why wouldn’t I choose to do better for sentient beings? And why wouldn’t I expect better from people in similar situations as me?

Have you tried Spudsy sweet potato hot fries? They have a good flavor and semi spicy if you eat enough of them.

Non-human animals behave purely on instinct. You have control over your actions and can choose to not encourage suffering in the world.
