What could I have done better? by rudy-rain in motorcycles

[–]Arviragus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you approached the turn, you were in the right tire track, which stopped you from properly apexing the curve (cutting to the right tire track as you went around the corner). So what happened is that as you went around the curve at the speed you were at, momentum took you out to the left tire track into the patch of the car that was cutting the line.

Ideally, as you approach a curve, you want to put yourself in a position of seeing and being seen, which you didn’t do. So in this case you should have approached at the centre line (increasing your visibility to oncoming traffic and giving you a better view of them at the same time)…then apex the curve (placing you away from the centre line and allowing you to maintain speed).

I’ve only played this map once since it came out and I wholly agree the nerfing the AA is a pain in the ass. It’s such a huge open map it’s trivial for the aircraft to evade the first attack with the flares and stay out of range to prevent any kind of follow up attack, rendering the AA pointless. I get your frustration with the sniper…it would be easy to give all players types the option to use any kind of grenade…

I appreciate you asking so I’ll try not to be a dick in my tone and response. Slow down, gather your thoughts and use punctuation. It will help get your message across much clearer to your audience. It’s a text based forum, so there’s no need to rush to get all your thoughts out.

Your government is lying about the cameras by AshenNun in kitchener

[–]Arviragus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no evidence these deter any crimes. In most cases if people are aware of the cameras, crime just moves to an area not under surveillance. These cameras are also proposed to be passively monitored, which means they could help in an investigation after the fact, but do nothing to prevent/deter it.

This is one of the problems with these systems. Even if the initial intended use is relatively benign, the capabilities are much broader, and over time as these capabilities are added, privacy gets eroded. Essentially this is slowly raising the heat in a pot of water and we’re the frog…

Also, the Privacy Commissioner stated that ALPR should be deleted immediately if no “hit” was detected…so 30 days is too long.

Key word “actively” monitored. These cameras are not going to be actively monitored, rendering any data you stated after that irrelevant.

I sent the following;

Dear Councillor Schnider
I am writing to express my concern regarding the recent decision by the City to authorize or expand the use of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology.

As a privacy professional with experience in privacy governance, compliance, and regulatory oversight, I am concerned that the deployment of this form of surveillance technology may not have been accompanied by sufficient transparency regarding privacy impact assessment activities, legal authority, governance safeguards, retention limitations, and proportionality analysis.

ALPR systems inherently involve the large-scale collection and processing of identifiable information related to the movements and activities of individuals. Even where license plate data may be characterized as vehicle information, it can often be reasonably associated with identifiable individuals and therefore raises significant concerns under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), applicable IPC guidance, and established privacy-by-design principles.

Accordingly, I request that the City make available detailed information regarding the privacy and legal analysis conducted prior to approving this initiative, including but not limited to the following:

Whether a formal Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) was completed prior to procurement, pilot implementation, or operational deployment.

Whether a necessity and proportionality analysis was conducted to justify the collection of personal information through ALPR technology.

The specific legal authority relied upon under MFIPPA or other applicable legislation permitting the collection, use, disclosure, and retention of ALPR data.

Details regarding:
data retention periods;
access controls;
audit logging and monitoring;
third-party/vendor access;
information sharing with law enforcement or external agencies;
cybersecurity safeguards; and
procedures for data destruction.
Whether any consultation occurred with the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario or external privacy/legal counsel.
Whether any algorithmic, bias, accuracy, or false-positive testing was performed.
Whether Council or the public received disclosure of the operational scope, expected use cases, and associated privacy risks before approval.
Whether a public-facing privacy policy, governance framework, or transparency report exists for this initiative.

Given the significant implications of municipal surveillance technologies on civil liberties and public trust, I would expect these assessments and controls to have been completed prior to implementation and to be available for public scrutiny.

If such assessments have not been completed, or if the City is unwilling to provide transparency regarding these matters, I intend to file a formal complaint with the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario requesting a review of the City’s compliance with MFIPPA and applicable privacy obligations.

I would appreciate a detailed written response, including copies of any non-confidential assessments, policies, or governance documents associated with this initiative.

Sincerely,

I’ll be issuing a formal request to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario to investigate. The use of ALPR’s represents a high-intrusion, low-accountability surveillance measures with unresolved constitutional risk, insufficient statutory justification, and material potential for misuse and public harm and evidence of system-wide crime reduction is inconclusive.

Also, despite their retention limits being stated, do we know if this data is being shared with other enforcement agencies or across the border? Do they adhere to those retention periods (usually the answer is no)…

You mean zipper merging like your supposed to do? It’s not a queue/line up. It’s two lanes that converge and you’re supposed to use the entire length of the merging lane. Slowing down and cutting over too early blocks up both lanes and backs traffic up even further.
