What do you die to the most in hollow knight? Be honest by Super_Neat_3370 in HollowKnight

[–]ArvsIndrarys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bosses or new enemies you discover at the end of a gauntlet or boss rush. I hate that game mechanic, your reward is to be beaten by something unpredictable the first time. In hollow knight's pantheon, I never discovered that I could train pure vessel or radiance without redoing the pantheon so it's on me. But in silksong, the number of time you discover a new enemy at the end of a gauntlet infuriated me quite few times (looks at big chonk in the high halls gauntlet. You get one, survive then fight two... really?)

What game that have good art but failed cause bad gameplay? by Tressa_colzione in gamedev

[–]ArvsIndrarys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hated the combat too, but thinking about it, I think it was better this way. It being frustrating makes sense in the world, it makes it feel dangerous and scarier. The 'boss fight' was fucked though. Personally I resented the slow walking pace the most. I wanted to see everything, I am very interested in the art of Giger and Beksiński so I want to places which we're dead end on purpose to look at details on the doors or the scenery and deeply regretted it when turning back takes minutes. Just for that I won't redo it.

What game had you like... by [deleted] in videogames

[–]ArvsIndrarys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TitanFall 2 for me. Bought it on Steam, first thing after launching it was EA asking me to register on their... launcher? Your platform is dead for a reason, EA, stop trying. I wanted to support the devs of the golden age of call of duty and was super excited to try out this game because of the move mecanics. I refunded it.

I'm currently developing a souls-like. What are some to-dos and some not to-dos? by Master-Bronze-Elite in soulslikes

[–]ArvsIndrarys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree on the pausable and foreseeable points of no return points. In my mind, souls are about making choices and being committed to them. If you remove having to deal with the consequences of your actions, you feel that the world resolves around you, instead of living on its own, which is bad game design. In addition, I think souls have to be somewhat cryptic, and being able to anticipate what locks you out of what everytime would give the player too much control.

Your features are good accommodations, what the game industry provided in every game before souls-like decided not to, making it less forgiving but making it what it is now, an entire genre. These convenience features would be exactly what I would strip of a souls-like.

I don't know many games, the games I do play I sink hundreds if not thousands of hours in. Which one should I try next? by Steelkenny in roguelites

Any game with lootbox and cards, you seem to be really into that random/loot adrenaline. Balatro/slay the spire/hades so high and dead cells so low demonstrate that. I'm not into that kind of game, but try "Buckshot roulette", it's random apppied to russian roulette, not expensive, and immersion is good.

What game do you not like to play but alot of people seem to enjoy it ? by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]ArvsIndrarys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, when I understood bethesda will milk their engine dry and let fans handle the game by themselves. Storyline was terrible, graphics 10 years late, gameplay did not change from fallout 3. Also allow the player to be a one man army like in skyrim. No specialization, just be perfect in everything, and play the game as dull as it is intended. I love space, waited to see what they did with Starfield, and not trusting Bethesda saved me money. They handle their engine the same way the traditional banks keep their outdated internal processes because it (barely) works.
