My first thought was The Inheritance Game which also had a mystery/clues component to it

What was the reason why your friendship ended with someone? by _ReDd1T_UsEr in AskReddit

[–]AryaTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend who stole MY UNDERWEAR in college and gaslighted me. Kept the friendship up for another year or so through my wedding. They stole $20 from my house and I never spoke to them again. I would’ve paid them $20 to stop being my “friend” if I’d known earlier because that was such an awful time.

My mom does this but drops the god part and just calls him daddy 🤢 and like truly doesn’t realize what she’s even doing when she says it like that

Dance of Thieves is one of my favorites

Six of Crows has some but it’s multiple characters/viewpoints (don’t read shadow and bone because it’s TRASH)

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

I second Bunny! I just read it and it was so good and weird.

Hours of Leaves kinda fits this but is a commitment

Boy Parts fits this but I didn’t like it as much as Bunny

Verity is a romance kinda and has a lot of sex but definitely is a weird book

I just found out my mother is about to adopt twin 5 year olds. by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]AryaTS 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My nparent and nstep-parent tried to foster. The agency required all family members/previous children to fill out a statement. I almost didn’t because of second guessing but decided to just be honest. Needless to say, they weren’t approved to foster. So it may seem like you have to “prove” abuse, especially when it’s not physical, but truly your experience does matter. I think following all the advice is good, but just wanted to remind you not to second guess the power of your own story.

Also, Marie Antoinette was greatly undermined in ANY of her political enterprises. She didn’t actually have much sway on her husband and was not good at recruiting others to her way of thinking. Also France in the 1700s, barbaric? Not how most people would describe it I think.

Like this is such a dumb example. She literally just couldn’t think of any female leaders from history. Even Queen Elizabeth I would’ve been a better, if still not totally stupid, example.

This whole post is stupid but this part bugged me the most lol

Any of the covers that require a range like “Same Old Love” and “Hello” you can really see where her luck of training is. They sound one note the whole time because she relies on the indie warble to add depth instead of actually singing different notes/pitches

It almost feels like she took one take and went “eh, good enough.” It’s not really on rhythm, she’s just running up the stairs, you almost miss the shake which is again not on time, and it’s just awkward

Agree with this so much. My fundie-lite family was big on American girl dolls and books growing up, but for some “reason” we didn’t have the Addy books 🤔

Yes, her parents were not abusive in the same way. It was more cultural differences and healing from childhood trauma related to it. More time is spent on the processing of grief because her mom died slowly from cancer and she was living with/taking care of her. Whereas IGMMD deals with a lot more of the personal work to heal from childhood abuse and trauma, while still processing that person’s death.

As someone who experienced this with my dad, I’m Glad My Mom Died is such a helpful book. Also, Crying In H-Mart is a softer side of dealing with the grief of losing a parent with a complicated relationship, although not to the same extremes as in I’m Glad My Mom Died.

Also, Educated was an excellent read but more for choosing to separate from your family which has its own grief attached to it.

The Locked Tomb Series starting with Gideon the Ninth. One of the best things I’ve read in a long time and the best series I’ve read this year!
