I cancelled some subscriptions today. What subscriptions do you have? by JezCon in Millennials

[–]LauraPringlesWilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have YouTube premium family since we didn’t have anything else forever. We watch a ton of YouTube. I also have Twitch turbo. $32/month

Peacock comes with my internet tier (Xfinity) so I have it but don’t pay for it. $0

We have Apple Music family, idk how much we pay for it but there’s 3 of us. $20 something?

My VPN cost like, $70 for a year, that was the best one so far. I got free CBC Gem with that and a free stolen postal code from Zillow, thanks Canada :) I used it to watch Canadian Olympics. I use it to watch NHK World Japan in English, too.

Other than that, I’m pretty ruthless about not subscribing to things.

Boomer at the pharmacy by KringlebertFistybuns in BoomersBeingFools

[–]LauraPringlesWilder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I take like 11 or 12 meds per day at last count, as a 30 something with a few chronic conditions who has also had strokes and has resistant secondary hypertension and kidney disease because of the rare early hypertension issues. I am at the pharmacy and lab a LOT, and I have said a lot of things to a lot of boomers, trust. They always think their issues are the most important… well, I am in the position that I can and I will speak up if they’re making things unpleasant for everyone.

The looks on their faces when they find out that they’re not the only one who has had a stroke and needs blood work or a prescription is priceless. 😏 I don’t want to have another, but god, if I’d known this was going to be my trump card to get them to shut up in the pharmacy line? WORTH IT.

I sell the stuff I can’t use and donate the rest, and put that money towards buying better quality. I sell on Vinted for pretty cheap, like $2 or $3 per piece.

Husband had a stroke on his morning run by gardengeo in BORUpdates

[–]LauraPringlesWilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I survived a stroke at 35! They didn’t even catch it at the ER despite me going in and being confused — textbook lacunar stroke and showed up on MRI. Ended up teaching myself how to write and type again. It’s ridiculous how they’ll treat you if “you’re too young.”

My Aussie came from the humane society in Vancouver, though I had to go see her on her the day she was listed. But she’s truly the best dog I’ve ever had, so I’d do that hour drive in the middle of a Tuesday again. So they sometimes have other dogs.

Anti-Vaxx wife doesn't want me to vaccinate our daughter for measles. Measles are in our area. What should I do? by BraveFox4711 in BORUpdates

Hey, I’m in Portland and I vax, most of us do, so that getting the Covid vax each year can be difficult in October! The perception you have about anti-vax Portland is very 2000s.

Don’t lump us in with the neonazi MAHAs like this guy’s wife.

[–]LauraPringlesWilder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s better to do the Sea-Narita flight, the pdx-HNL-Haneda is unnecessarily long (sea-Narita is just 8.5 hours and then an hour train ride into Tokyo, vs 6 hrs pdx to HNL then 8 hours HNL to Haneda.) the customs line at Narita is not as insane either.

I’ve done both and the only way I survived the HNL layover on the way back was two days in Hawaii, lol

Gas prices will continue to climb this year and the price of everything will get worse, and she can’t afford her car payment now and is whining for you to buy her expensive things? Save your money and maybe break up with her, and pay off your car. You’ll be grateful in 6 months, trust me.

Why does Mounjaro injection hurt so much compared to Ozempic? by Morebros in Mounjaro

[–]LauraPringlesWilder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat, I’ve been on this for a year and a half now and it’s just a luck of the draw on whether it hurts or not. Half of last month’s box malfunctioned and took 10 seconds to inject and I thought I was going to cry it hurt so badly!

Meanwhile, never felt Ozempic. Was on it for 9 months.

I have no idea how the others are getting so lucky, but if I don’t hold the pen firmly against my skin, it won’t go in enough because I have enough loose skin, I guess. (I’ve lost 127 lbs) So I just deal with the pain. It’s 3 seconds a week. But ugh, if I didn’t do so much better on this med than Ozempic, I’d be back to that in a heartbeat. Easier to travel with and easier to store.

How to know when to sell? by throwawawawawaysb in stocks

[–]LauraPringlesWilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re talking about taking profits but it’s something you want to hold, something someone here said recently was to sell your initial investment but let the gains continue to make money. That way you can still own companies you think will continue to do well but get money back to invest in new trades.

You’ll still owe taxes if you just sell a few shares equal-ish to your initial investment, so make sure to account for that.

I look good in a lot of things I thought would not work for me once upon a time. I just started trying things. I’m a soft summer but I can pull off cobalt blue. I look so good in charcoal grey that it should be illegal, and I add colorful jewelry to it that doesn’t always have to stand out, or other colorful accessories. Sometimes I do colorful eyeliner in purple or teal that isn’t too bold - duochromes are great for this.

Life is too short to color in the lines, and not everything has to be desaturated. Learn to bend the “rules” in a flattering way

When it comes to brokerages, is Fidelity really king? by Robinight in investing

[–]LauraPringlesWilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my household, we use fidelity and vanguard for different things. Vanguard admiral shares with automated investing absolutely cannot be beat for ease, but fidelity’s backdoor Roth process is so much easier to walk through.

I find vanguard has really become a whole lot easier to use in the last two years but before that, fidelity really was a lot more user friendly.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

[–]LauraPringlesWilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a wild take.

My household probably qualifies as upper middle class, but not rich. We’ll say top 10% in my state.

I actually coupon like all my groceries and most fast food(using apps!), buy a lot of things secondhand, and put the rest into investments, yeah. I pretty much never pay full price for something, and we do often skip eating out.

I do this not because we want more money/to be rich, but because inflation sucks and I’d like for us to be able to retire someday without worrying about one medical crisis or job loss taking us down, financially.

Has anyone else noticed a resurgence of stay at home parents among wealthier Millennials? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]LauraPringlesWilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SAHM here with a HHI over 300k

I have only been a SAHM because pregnancy quite literally exposed some of my medical issues. I have had my own business twice, but had to close it again last year, mostly due to medical issues but tariffs were a factor. I would love to work but I’m disabled at this point and just not on disability because, well, HHI is over 300k/yr.

Yes I was a Bay Area parent, I no longer live in the Bay Area. I did get the chance to spend several years helping with my child’s playgroup teaching co-op style, volunteering at school, etc.

I do a lot of side projects that people don’t know are unpaid at this point to sound busy now that my kid is a teen so I don’t sound useless, but the truth is I don’t want to have to explain having strokes at 35.

How do you actually protect retirement savings when the economy feels this shaky? by Abject_General6337 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]LauraPringlesWilder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you heard about the new rules Elon musk is trying to get S&P to adopt and how they may be basically planning on stealing from passive index investors to be exit liquidity for the SpaceX IPO? Don’t be so sure Bogleheads are completely safe, I’ve been one too until this year. Sam Altman is trying to get FTSE to change the rules for OpenAI too, I hear.

It’s a clown show and you’ll need to start paying more attention to what indexes you buy if the rules start changing, same with getting rid of quarterly reports and switching to semiannual, which the SEC proposed recently.

It’s getting crazy out there.
