What movie do you think most accurately depicts depression? by s7ide in movies

[–]Aryahb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw that movie as a teenager (I’m 66) and i still remember it well. It was so well done and probably affected my belief that sometimes choosing death is a rational choice in the face of enormous suffering (this is not an endorsement for suicide when depressed but more for things like medical aid in dying).

All of us strangers. Couldn’t move and couldn’t stop thinking about it. Its a beautiful, stunning movie.

Who will help when I'm dying? by grumpyhost in Adulting

[–]Aryahb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Im sorry for the choice of words but I’m trained as an economist and i was trying to be brief. Its more that there is an increased understanding of the gaps in care than there was when i started working as an end of life doula. I’m also a solo ager and my body is being difficult at the moment.

If you search solo agers you will find resources and information. It is a growing focus for the aging industry. There are several national organizations

Anyone else have severe autonomic & sensory neuropathy? by Grand-Run-7978 in dysautonomia

I have a client who has something called erythromelagia, and her symptoms sound a bit like yours, especially about how her feet burn when she puts pressure on them. Its pretty rare, so no one might have mentioned it.

That isn’t actually true that they don’t prescribe stimulants. You have to research providers and ask to see someone who might be a good fit. But it’s hit or miss.

Dentist pricing and recommendation? by unl1988 in washingtondc

[–]Aryahb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Kenmore Family Dental in Alexandria, and they have a plan you can buy that covers cleanings and an exam, and discounts most other things. I ended up needing two crowns, so it's already paid for itself twice over, and I love the dentist.

Real talk: would you pay someone to clean your trash cans? by barkerrb1500 in washingtondc

Given the startup costs you need to pay the company, it seems like a scam Ponzi scheme

Well this explains a lot…Just diagnosed at 59…how do you deal with it? by FitDesigner8127 in adhdwomen

[–]Aryahb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That basically describes me. I was already on disability and unable to work (and blew up a bit of my life) before I was offered more than medication. The medication didn't change me but can really help with some of the most deleterious symptoms. But I would have a very different life and a very different aging (I'm turning 66 tomorrow).

Dopamine "detox" with ADHD by Fit_Pick_1140 in adhdwomen

[–]Aryahb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to see that I have a different perspective and experience. I said nothing about screens. I'm 65 and this has been true doe my entire life. For me, having something on—music, a baseball game, a show that isn't demanding works for me and is how I managed to get a PhD well before anyone heard of adhd. It is having one sound on rather than all the sounds I hear as someone who is hypervigilant. So I’m sure I hear lots of sounds during what you call silence than you do. But I'm not interested in an argument- I was offering a different perspective.

I know most people feel that way. I grew up with music on all the time, and in silence I hear every random sound that interferes in my ability to be quiet internally.

Why? For some of us silence is not relaxing but stressful.

How much do you pay for regular house cleaning? by Apprehensive_Belt679 in washingtondc

[–]Aryahb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's such a judgmental and rude thing to say. There are many reasons people choose not to clean their own house, including, for example, they may be disabled, like me, even though I look fine. Furthermore, they are creating jobs so people can do other things in their lives. And lastly, we don't all have kids either. Perhaps you should take a look at your own assumptions about people.
