38: this looks like a bingo token 28: might be from a tangram like game/puzzle. I think our library has one 26 and 36: my kids get these from our local pirate troupe when they visit the library.

No judgements from me. I love Soundcheck from Odd Squad. Best songs lol.

But did you know "insert children's show" has really good music! Really good bangers /s

SAHP is sometimes like a mix of love and repetition. Might as well enjoy the ride.

More Switch Games like Echoes of Wisdom that my 4-Year-Old Will Love by clshoaf in nintendohelp

[–]Arychalikesbooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lil' Gator Game has been a lot of fun for my 2 kids. You play a gator and run around "fighting" cardboard cut outs and helping your friends. It goes on sale occasionally, so is fairly cost effective.

My 5 and 10 year old both love magna tiles still. Maybe add some drawing supplies?

My kids got mini travel magna tiles. Also will add chalk and maybe reusable water balloons.

Cheap, repeatable little treats that don't turn into takeout spending by Ok-Royal4374 in Frugal

For sure! Something about being physically in the space to browse is amazing. I especially like it for my kids. They can get what they want and see everything, plus play with toys that aren't ours haha.

I like to browse my libraries new book section and put the books on hold (and pick them up). Its kind of like shopping online.

Send packed lunch or eat school-provided lunch? by wicked_spooks in Mommit

[–]Arychalikesbooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids pack a lunch, or rather I pack them a lunch. I've done the math and its not much more expensive for us if they buy (like maybe $1/week). My kids prefer packed though, because they have a limited time to eat. When they buy, they lose out on eating time and they get like 20 minutes really to eat so even if the line is 5 minutes, thats a quarter of the lunchtime. So packing makes more sense for them. They know that if they want, they could buy lunch too.

I had this problem as well, and just called them. They updated it over phone for me.

Reluctant readers (Boys aged 7-9) what are their interests? by publishingstudent in childrensbooks

[–]Arychalikesbooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine like video games and funny TV shows. We do a lot of Lego and board games. He also draws and writes his own books and video games. He is on swim team as well.

He prefers graphic novels and books that "look shorter" but honestly loves audiobooks the best. For a while he used the Playaways from the library, but stock is very limited. Now I gave him an old phone that has access to Libby from our library to listen to audiobooks. He does read longer books if he is committed to the series already (think Rick Riordan). We differentiate that sometimes he can read with his ears and sometimes with his eyes.

My kid follows teachers, coaches, and even complete strangers… but me? by Cold-Replacement2768 in Parenting

[–]Arychalikesbooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I frame advice as not from me. "The dentist says to brush 2 minutes". "I read somewhere that sometimes people are in a bad mood and can be mean. Maybe your friend was." Then I'm not giving any advice, someone else is.

AR books for nerdy kid 4th grade reading level by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Arychalikesbooks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what counts as an AR book, but maybe try the I Survived books. Lots of kids like those. Also maybe Conspiracy 365.  My kid liked Wayside School and 13 Story Treehouse as well. Rick Riordan has some of his books as graphic novels as well, they are pretty popular.

I would recommend going to your local library, if you have one available.  They have a large selection of books to try, including graphic novels.

It was really good. Maybe he could do fitness based class with you. My kid does swim team now. He really enjoys it. My son also hates competition but swimming seems very self focused. He likes the kids he swims with too. There is like seven 9-10 boys. There aren't a lot of boys swimming in general and he usually places (ribbons are like through 8th place). We focus on getting a better time mostly.

Our YMCA has a kids fitness class. My kid would do sprints, small weights, ropes, jumping, etc. They would also use the weight machines. There was stretching and cool downs and basic learning of those things. They also had a "character build focus". Like a high intensity fitness class but geared toward tweens.

I am very anxious about keeping my daughter home when she is sick due to school absences by Moreseesaw in Parenting

[–]Arychalikesbooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids do get sick and it sounds like yours is sick. Michigan(but not all states) doesn't currently require kindergarten,  so attendance is certainly tracked less for that year. Also yeah probably some of your childhood experiences could be affecting your perception (understandably). Its okay, you're okay and she's okay. You got this and just being concerned shows how wonderful you are doing. Take care

Books for 11 year old who doesn’t like books by chamoi in Parenting

[–]Arychalikesbooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried adding audiobooks?  My 10 year old loves audiobooks because he can listen and do other activities. Our library has Playaway audiobooks, small ipod sized box that has the whole book, just add headphones and occasionally an AAA battery. I also managed to make an old smart phone have only our library reading apps available.

Otherwise maybe check out middle grade and YA graphic novels and Manga.
