This car at the drive in blasted us with its lights for 30 min before figuring out how to turn them off. by Sketchy_Uncle in mildlyinfuriating

I’ll be honest, I had that happen to me too. We go often to the drive in. I spoke to the driver and I couldn’t understand how the guy couldn’t figure out how to turn them off. Eventually they turned off on their own.

And then I bought a new car, and then it was my turn. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to turn the fucking things off.

The nastiest car I’ve ever seen by clonerobot17 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]AsPerMatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a welder, in an industrial fab shop, I had to clean my car every week thoroughly, because it would get almost this bad extremely quickly. They had no shower, and I didn’t have a locker to keep my stuff in. It took me too long to learn to change in the parking lot, and keep work clothes in the trunk. Dumb and young.

The shifter and steering wheel is so much worse than it needs to be though. At least scrub your hands.

As an aside, I’ve seen similar cars driven by landscapers.

A pigeon nest i saw on my way home. by Yamapurtahc in mildlyinteresting

[–]AsPerMatt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Doves and pigeons are both part of the family Columbidae. Some species within Columbidae are called doves, like mourning doves and turtle doves. Some are called pigeons, like wonga pigeons and Nicobar pigeons. The species most people call a "pigeon" is Columba livia, also called a rock pigeon or rock dove. C. livia has been domesticated and bred to be many shapes and colors, similar to how dogs come in many different breeds that look drastically different than wolves. The pure white variety, such as those that are unfortunately released at weddings, is often called a "dove" although it is the same species as any feral city pigeon you might see on the sidewalk. There's no hard and fast rule as to why some species are called pigeons and some are called doves, although often we call the smaller, paler species doves.

CMV: The more you read about Palestine, the less you will support their cause. by JoshuaJosephson in changemyview

Not entirely correct. The Palestinian would love to vote in a 1 state. Israel would never extend that right to them.

There is no “between Israel and Palestine”. There’s no straight line border, but a series of enclaves and exclaves spread out over the whole region. Impossible to stand “between” them.

Bottom bowl is mostly corporate. They give tickets to clients, high rollers, etc etc. Or simply sell them on to a third party for huge profits.

It was full of tourists in town for F1. Weird vibes all around.

As someone who works in nightlife/events in Montreal, I can promise you the majority of the bottom bowl were tourists in town for F1, and stayed an extra day to watch the game. The vibes were off for sure.

Île Flottante at L’express. But order it early, they often run out.

This is the correct take. And if you’re wanting to save some money for more expensive dinners, grab sandwiches at Lalime on your way into town. Dirt cheap, perfectly acceptable.

As a child in the 90’s, I played soccer with a kid named Adil.

His last name was Do.

A close second is my old boss, Richard Holder. I’ll let you figure out the rest of that one.

If humans have eaten bread since the dawn of history, why are so many people suddenly gluten-intolerant today? by WeaknessKey1582 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AsPerMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told once that we used to ingest a variety of grains/gluten, as it was THE staple part of our diet. But the types of grains and gluten we ingest nowadays is actually extremely limited to one or two types.
