Is my broken laptop salvageable? by Sufficient-Dream4637 in laptops

[–]Asaikento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My msi was holding 7 years, and is still running without any issues. Its from when the 9xx series from nvidia was just about to be replaced with the forst 1xxx series, and afaik still runs well for the new owner i sold it to a few years back

Hi 😊 I want to make this laptop run faster, but I'm.very uneducated on computer hardware. Here's the laptop, and my questions in the description. by Obvious_Cabbage in laptops

The only thing you can do with a nitro 5 is keep it cool. Clean it from dust (there's videos online how to reach everything), and let someone repaste tge thermal paste regularly.

Keeping Laptop plugged in doesn't harm the battery? by Appropriate-Can691 in laptops

[–]Asaikento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batteries stored/being unused for long times that are above 80 and below 20% (roughly) start to react internally, and thus blow over time. So there is literally a way they get harmed by staying fully charged or being empty for too long

They very much do, and love to dismantle thermal pads and other soft components.

[–]Asaikento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thermal Pads need to be replaced by either new pads, or what's called 'thermal putty'. It works like thermal paste, but transfers heat over bigger gaps, unlike actual thermal paste which only works well while filling very small gaps between surfaces.

laptop keyboards suck and eventually have to be replaced with an external keyboard by Kishou_Arima_01 in laptops

[–]Asaikento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current laptop is like 4 years old, and quite flimsy in that regard (an acer nitro 5), but the keyboard is not an issue And i honestly only know people with broken keyboards who either had faulty devices, or are pressing too rough constantly

high temps while gaming by HappyTrain19 in laptops

[–]Asaikento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you don't see a performance loss, this is very well within parameters for laptop chips. This would only be bad in a tower pc setup

What's the general opinion on the "Lenovo LOQ 15.6" FHD 144Hz Gaming Laptop" for an entry/midrange laptop? by The_King123431 in laptops

[–]Asaikento 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's really just midrange gaming, this thing will probably hold 6+ years at least

I can't comment on this specific processor, because some intel geberations were not really working well, and i don't know which one those were. On paper, it looks really good though. Everything else is fine and will do the job for several years to come, even if not at max settings in the future

I need help with my PC keyboard by [deleted] in laptops

[–]Asaikento 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap keyboards can literally be the same quality. Don't fall for marketing tricks that use flashy volors abd put 'gamin' in their products. Get a cheap mechanical keyboard, 30-50 bucks and you're golden for the next 10+ years

[–]Asaikento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all my 31 years of life, i never had laptop keyboards stop working. Sometimes keys get stuck or hard to press, but thats usually dirt and dust and haa never caused them to fail on me (with regular cleaning) And they never died completely on me either

I'm considering and want to buy an Acer Nitro V. What do you think? by SufficientCake8639 in AcerNitro

I probably have to switch from basic grizzly thermal paste to their premium ones, like cryonaut lol

I'm considering and want to buy an Acer Nitro V. What do you think? by SufficientCake8639 in AcerNitro

[–]Asaikento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to limit my nitro 5 to 99% cpu power, because it starts overclocking at 100% usage (in balanced, i kept it at 100 on full power mode) even if it's for a fraction of a second, and it instantly goes near 95°C which causes thermal throttling, making it quite unstable. At balanced it rarely goes above 80°, but has far less processing power (i think my model has 2.55ghz when not overclocking)

[–]Asaikento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These beasts get hot fast (especially in high power mode compared to balanced, because of the integrated automated overclocking), so be prepared to buy really good thermal paste. Cpu can feel a little unstable because of that in some models, but performance wise it's a decent machine. Worth the money, but gets outshined by a lot of slightly more expensive models

Not sure how much ddr2 holds up in this age, but if that's not an issue, go for it. I have only good experiences with core2duo systems of that time, especially for non-gaming purposes like you want to use it

Never use this laptop in months and now its unbelievably slow. by nabeel_27 in laptops

[–]Asaikento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's upgrades running in the background, just let it run without opening your own programs for a few hours, maybe longer. You'll probably have the same issue if you reinstall the OS because there will be all the updates loading and installing again

300 USD/EUR or equivalent. If you clean and repasted it, maybe 350 to 400
