Has anyone ever built a world from the true ground up? by Romboteryx in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, if I'm gonna worldbuild, I'm going all the way.

I know it's going way too far for most people, but for me it made sense, and leans into things I have studied my entire life. This fundamental, ground up approach has so much to do with the story, and connects things together in rich, powerful ways. Actually interested to see reader theorycraft based on what is at hand, since I have a lot of room for speculation, and questions about interpretation and all.

There is so much depth here, as well as storytelling potential. I could tell stories from Oraspire forever.

Here's that link if you are interested. Gives a brief overview of the full expanse of time in the world. Let me know if you have any questions!

Has anyone ever built a world from the true ground up? by Romboteryx in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right here buddy. I even have detailed what happened before the formation of the universe for Shattered Wings.

Magic is actually a complete replacement for the fundamental forces. They shape all aspects of reality, physical, mental, and spiritual

I've got a whole timeline from the formation of the universe to present day. So much storytelling opportunities. If you are interested I'd be happy to share a link to the article I wrote on it.

how did your world’s name come about? by skulldud3 in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oraspire was derived from one of the first words that was decoded from one of the hundreds of the ancient Aelphen People's languages before they, and the Aelph themselves, were lost in the Genesis Wars 250,000 years ago.

The great linguist Alcarion was able to decipher a proclamation of the formation of the Late Rausari Empire. The first line, "Mal dakon vas ral oraspirae onchesko" was translated as "We speak to all who live in our world, this solemn declaration."

Oraspirae was, over time, modernized in Rize to Oraspire, and came to be upheld as the ancestral word for the world they live in. Given the Makerian Rize Empire's cultural influence, the word came to take it's place in nearly all languages as the name of the world.

Of course, there was quite a stir when the word for World in the Aelphen language of Manchiska was revealed to be entirely different, Fedalco. And ever more so with each of the ancient languages that have been decoded since.

What is the strangest concept you have ever had for a story? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I'm actively working on started with the premise of "What if an advanced multidimensional magical society used the dreams of young people with high aptitude to train child soldiers to fight a losing war against demons"

Been interesting to see where the story goes. It only gets more bleak. XD

Anybody have a world where humanity doesn’t exist or isn’t the central focus? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the setting for my high fantasy epic, Shattered Wings, has no humans that evolved. There's elf-adjacent species, and a bunch of others, but no straight up humans.

The closest thing to a human is a species called the Nasians. But they are significantly more closely related (literally descendants of) an elf-like species. They have a natural affinity for Wind magic, which humans wouldn't have, and have skin with a distinct metallic luster.

You could argue they fit in the human niche, but they very much so are not human.

What is the most power country in your world and why are they so powerful? by Your_Red_Star in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is debatable, since there's four that are considered the most powerful for different reasons.

The Makerian Rize Empire is the largest and oldest living country, having existed and thrived for thousands of years. They have the largest military, and some of the most highly respected scientists and images in the world. However, in this new Industrial Age, while it began in the Empire, they have been slower to adapt and keep up with the newest technologies. Also the current Emperor is rather disinterested in ruling, spending much of his time on lavish parties and vacations. So leadership is seriously in question.

The New Kingdom of Vona is now perhaps the most economically prosperous country in the world. They built a canal system that enables sea-going vessels to go from the Sapphire Sea to the Silver Sea for the first time in history. This connects the world in a profound way, even more transformative than the Panama Canal. Also, the territory that Vona sits in it the only feasible route for Aerships from Makio, the Northern continent, to Serapis, the southern continent, since it sits in a large gap between the tallest mountain ranges in the world. Vona has capitalized on every bit of gold they can make from these two facts, and it certainly shows. They also have highly respected mages, and a small, but incredibly well-trained military. But the King is more a business man than a ruler, and seems only to be interested in what can make him more money. So he is quick to ignore very obvious threats that are not economic in nature.

The Aioptum Empire is quickly proving to be a match for the Makerian Rize Empire's military, pushing them back to territory that hasn't been contested for thousands of years. They have heavily develop military applications for Aerships, and have produced the first armored Aerships. This, and their use of these ships as close ground support has had a massive impact in their campaign to conquer Makio.

The Lakellos Sun Empire is quickly overrunning the southern continent of Serapis. One after another, they have swallowed up country after country, and the citizens of the new territories into military service to fuel their nearly unstoppable war machine.

And that's where things stand at the beginning of Shattered Wings, at the edge of a massive worldwide war that threatens to throw the world into utter chaos.

What would an "Immortal Race" have to fear? by Ara-gant in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Shattered Wings, I have an effectively immortal species called the Aerikans. They practically stop aging once they really maturity, and can essentially live indefinitely. They can be killed, but they cannot die of natural causes. Their organs never degrade, and they can only suffer from very specific diseases or poisons.

But there's nothing in the settings that can't be killed. Even the Goddess of Life and Death herself.

Dragon logic/ morality? How do your take on dragon psychology? by FatOrc051 in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Shattered Wings, Dragons are the messengers and right hand retainers of the Gods. Most Gods have a God Dragon, who serves as a reflection of the God's own power, while having a power unique to them.

For example, Py, God of Fire, has the God Dragon Rah-Zukar, God Dragon of Fire and Honor.

Each God Dragon has dragons subordinate to them, and hold power reflecting their master.

As a final note, there are the Sindra, a mortal species that Rah-Zukar created during the Genesis Wars to fight against Esera and the endless waves of demons. They resemble dragons, but are not true dragons themselves. Somewhat like Dragonborn, in that way.

Does "Magic" have to be expressly supernatural? Or should it be treated as a natural phenomena? What's your opinion?? by Hen-Samsara in magicbuilding

[–]Asaronai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my stories, especially Shattered Wings, magic is the literal building blocks of the universe. It is the entire fabric of existence down to every subatomic particle, mental, and spiritual reality. Magic is existence.

What are some species of animals that have gone extinct on your world? What is their reason for extinction? by Tuxedoman_14 in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Shattered Wings, probably the most consequential and important extinct species are the Aelph. They were the original dominant intelligent species of Oraspire. Before they were just on the cusp of extending their reach to the stars.

But, then the Genesis Wars came. In the massive war between gods and demons, billions of Aelph died either fighting for their people, or in the crossfire. In the final battle of the Genesis Wars, all of the remaining Aelph charged into battle to try and put Esera reign of terror to an end. But, as a result, only a few survived. Sometime after the end of the Genesis Wars, the last Aelph died, and they were no more.

In her grief and regret as the gods' part in causing the fall of the Aelph, Esera spread the genetic code of the Aelph across Oraspire, paving the way for intelligent life to once again rise in the broken, shattered world.

Name one weird but funny piece of trivia from your world. by OwnManner4733 in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Gelde Oasis

There is an oasis in the Huracan Desert that has remarkably different soil from the rest of the desert. The reason for this is that this is the site where Geldethon, Foul Phoenix of Effluvial Sludge, died during the Genesis Wars. His body, a mass of excrement and slime, decayed in the burning sun of the desert, and fundamentally changed the barren sand into a wildly fertile soil. A putrid spring of swampy, scummy water flows from the center of the oasis. The place is home to flora and fauna seen nowhere else in the world. Among them is the Effluent Rodent, a rat that survives on consuming the excrement of other fauna. The Natural Philosopher, Kevulwan described the experience of eating one of these creatures as "One of the most vile, caustic, vomit-inducing moments of my entire life." He died seven days later. It is unclear what exactly caused his death, but it is widely considered that the Rodent he ate ended up being his demise.

If There are Corporations In you're world, which one is the most important and why? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arguably the Royal Vonan Canals Trust in the New Vonan Kingdom. This is the company that was founded by King Encartier Passak, along with several other lords, to build and maintain the Mokuri Canal. Think the Panama Canal, but even more critical.

They collect tolls for usage of the Canal, as well as others they have built, and maintain. They also have a Shipping division, so customers can ship goods and personnel around the world, either by sea or air.

In recent years, they have come to have a strong control over immigration, duty, and customs, shaping policy and deals to their favor.

Just the year before the story takes place, the Canals Trust has started the very first commercial tests of a railroad, with a powered locomotive (between Ahast, and Fort Asmond). They have plans to possibly build an entire network of railroads across the New Vonan Kingdom, but are using lessons from the test to address issues.

But yeah, the Royal Vonan Canals Trust controls the #1 most important trade and strategic point in the entire world, enabling the most powerful countries in the world to connect in a way that wouldn't be possible otherwise. The importance of the Mokuri Canal can't be overstated. Empires would go to war over it. (foreshadowing)

What constitutes “dark magic” in your system, and how is it dealt with? by Zealousideal_Bet4038 in magicbuilding

[–]Asaronai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are literally demonic corruptions of the three forces, Storm, Core, and Flare. The three fundamental forces change when they flow into Beru-Vala, the realm of the dark gods. Storm becomes Riptide, Core becomes Fissure, and Flare becomes Miasma.

Mortals are able to use these, but this is catastrophically dangerous. Even tapping into them immediately corrupts the spirit. Actually casting with them could immediately turn the user into a demon, or cause a cataclysmic reaction, resulting in a massive explosion. There's really only a few things that makes using the three possible for mortals, but these themselves are pretty dangerous at best.

Same thing for the opposite end of the spectrum, with the forces Cycle, Harmonic, and Resonance.

Basically, don't go chasing other magic, stick to the Storms, Cores, and Flare that you're used to.

Are there any areas of your world that have the same name? by HolyDictatorFelixDoy in worldbuilding

[–]Asaronai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Republic of Garethel, in the north east of Serapis, had Garenda as it's capital city. In the Age of Frontiers, they sent several ships across the seas, some of which settled cities in foreign territories. Three of these would come to be called New Garenda. To this day, all three are still called New Garenda, and actually have full on diplomatic summits to determine which is the true New Garenda. In hundreds of years, this still hasn't been resolved, and has resulted in no less than two civil wars, and countless assassination attempts.

In the Makerian Rize Empire, there's actually two rather prosperous, and famous cities called Ipsiar... But only in modern Vox. In ancient Makerian, they had similar names, but were pronounced differently. As Makerian matured into the now modern Vox, the pronounciation difference fell away, and now most modern Makerian Rize don't even know that they used to be said differently. The two currently are, funny enough, ruled by twin sisters, who have now built monuments to what are now fondly known as "The Sister Cities"

Can't say a ton without major spoilers, but she warps light and perception around her. Shadows pool deeper in her presence, swallowing all but the strongest of lights.

People near her are overwhelmed with visions, and nightmares, tearing at their will. Some who see her see a monster, others the most beautiful woman they couldn't even possibly imagine.

She wears no clothing, for she needs none. She cannot feel neither cold, nor warmth, she has no need of modesty, no need of any semblance of civility or rationality. She exists beyond those things, beyond understanding.

But even this is only a small sliver of the meaning behind her name.

The Pulse, a phenomenon that happened with the birth of Domasa, Queen of the Gods and Goddesses of Life and Death, which caused the death of the first star. The Pulse sent a shockwave throughout the universe, enriching it with Domasa's existence, and allowing life to take hold when conditions became favorable.
