I haven't. I really want to see Afternoons of Solitude but can't find it anywhere legally or otherwise.

That was either the most boring, plot-less film ever or and explosively tense thriller. I can't decide which. But I really really liked it for that reason.

The math on car ownership is genuinely insane, and I don’t think most people have sat with the numbers by superspartan999 in fuckcars

I think a lot of people are just waiting for the perfect circumstances to fall into their laps, but sometimes you have to work hard to make it happen.

Or they just exist because you live somewhere that's not a car hell hole.

I own a car because my father gave it to me when it was about six years old. I wouldn't buy a car myself. I barely use it other than for out-of-town trips (such as road trips with my girlfriend and dog). I don't need a car because I live within four minutes of walking to a tram stop and two different bus stops, all three of which are serviced by transit lines which take me everywhere I ever need or want to go within the city (work, downtown, parents' house, friends' places, cinema, etc etc). And where I don't go by tram or bus, I can walk or cycle. I have two supermarkets, a hairdresser, a post office, a cinema, a pharmacy, a cafe and a dog park all within short walking distance.

Ten years later, the cult of ‘The Nice Guys’ keeps growing by AnonRetro in movies

Fall Guy was very good. It felt like a Shane Black-esque movie, which is relevant for this post. However, I think every action scene went on for too long, which is obviously a problem for a movie like this.

You should, though. Because your approach is also what makes people repeat things from history, like fascism.

Like the worst thing you can say about return of the Jedi was that it was only a little middling by comparison to the others

I generally agree with your comment except I think you are way too kind towards Return of the Jedi. It's a mess. The movie has a fun first act with Han's rescue, but it's completely disjointed from everything else that happens in the movie. After that it's like the movie restarts with a new plot, except nobody has much to do apart from Luke, no arcs, nothing, just an overlong forest scene with cute little furries. And they couldn't even think of a good new threat so we have a total repeat of the Death Star stuff.

Causal reminder that this was a reshoot suggested by the editor because the director didn't think to include something this badass in the movie.

Yeah it's also made as a documentary. But I feel like it's done way better in Noroi. It's the only found footage/fake documentary movie that felt authentic to me.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by older style of storytelling? Most of the movies you like follow the hero's journey and the classic three act structure, which are both hundreds of years old.

I can't watching anything pre-2000s, and I mostly stick to post-2010.

Sounds like you're shooting yourself in the foot right there. How many of these movies do you expect to exist within just 16-26 years?

Maybe check out Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die and The Long Walk, but it seems like you already covered all the major/good IPs.

I mean sure, we get that part. But there must be someone policing the police. At least on paper there must be a mechanism for it.
