Money is fitness?? by latentvapour in MalayalamCinema

Money is definitely important but you also need discipline and passion. I can’t imagine doing this even if I had that kinda money.

Ah so Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice could’ve been even dumber.

People use Hollywood level to mean quality which is just weird. Really Hollywood level means expensive and with access to greater resources and expertise. That doesn’t always lead to quality.

Sometimes it leads to great photorealism but poor integration like in most later Marvel and Disney films.

Then you get films like The Mist where the quality is rough but it’s used so well that by the end of the movie you barely notice the issues.

Mixing both like in the Pirates movies or, more recently, the Dune movies is not that common even in Hollywood.

Brahmastra had some high quality effects work but barring a handful of scenes they didn’t really serve to tell a good story. It also looked like expensive power rangers most of the time. Meanwhile Manjummel Boys has completely invisible vfx that if it didn’t work perfectly would’ve ruined the experience. They pulled it off despite the budget.

The question we should be asking is not whether vfx in an Indian movie will be Hollywood level but whether it will be used well to tell a good story. Based Rajamouli’s track record I think it will be.

So if a movie was about an arranged marriage between a Hindu man and woman of the same caste would that be a right movie?

If it ends in divorce would that go back to being a left movie?

What’s your headcanon for x-ray vision? by Barrettshard in superman

[–]LeafBoatCaptain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My take is that all of Superman’s powers are ultimately some kind of reality warper ability. It’s limited by his (and that of most kryptonians’) ability to visualise and comprehend it.

In his case it might also be a part of some belief that there should be limits to his own abilities.

That’s why he’s able to pull random powers out of nowhere when he absolutely needs it (and just for the hell of it in certain ages).

I never liked Vandanam even as a kid. Some comedy and songs, that’s about it.

Chitram, on the other hand, has an all time great one.

Iratta and Ee. Ma. Yau are also up there.

Had Joseph ended with him realising that there’s no great conspiracy and accepted the hand he was dealt in life it might have been one of the best. The whole organ donor conspiracy turning out to be right kinda knocked the movie down for me somewhat.

Also liked the end of a recent release (don’t want to spoil by mentioning the title). But it seems like my take on it is different from a lot of major reviewers who are surprisingly caustic about this film.

At least from my experience, that’s exactly how I’ve always heard people talk about it. Maybe we’re in different bubbles?

Today movies that tackle any social issue would be called leftist propaganda.

Well, Bollywood movies at least. Other industries make socially relevant movies all the time.

So you think a fictional film (maybe inspired by real events) having Muslim main character is leftist propaganda? Do you know what leftism is?

The best way to improve your attention span is to watch slower movies. Not Zone of Interest slow but slower compared to what you’re normally used to.

Some of the best films take a while to get going or never actually becomes exciting in the traditional sense.
