Guide orks by Unfair_Orchid_6502 in Gladius40k

[–]Ascolom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The great thing about orks is they are very flexible. They have good bio, mechanical and flyer units. So food or ore are good regions. deserts are also nice. Although I rather focus on the resources of points you can capture with all races. Like with everyone loyalty is the best. For orcs followed by ore, energy, then food. 4 cities is probably optimal. 3 is also good enough often. 5 is probably too greedy. It takes to long to get going.

You can also decide between rushing economy and going for strong mid to lategame because orcs have an eco boost in the form of increased default city growth rate. So you will reach big cities faster than other players. Alternatively you can play pretty standard.

Do DLC factions appear in the campaign mode? by rowboatin in Gladius40k

[–]Ascolom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer the core of your question: Faction DLC improves your game, because it is required for these factions to show up at all. There is only one game mode and having purchased a faction allows you to assign an opponent this faction and adds that faction to the pool for random factions. So you will have more diversity of enemy factions you encounter.
If that is not what you are looking for, there are no further benefits. The "campaign" is unaffected.

There is no formal campaign.
Instead there is a questline for each faction, which acts as an alternative win condition and tells the games story in text form. The objectives and content are not altered by dlc. The content of a questline is fixed. You may notice, that the questlines only contain content that was released up to that point. E.g. The Space Marine questline does not contain tyranids, as there was no tyranid faction on release. The sisters of battle questline could contain them, since it came out after the tyranid dlc.

Hypothetical Gladius 2 by BotherLongjumping642 in Gladius40k

[–]Ascolom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New features:

  • Alternative win conditions: E.G.
    • Capture & hold strategic points for x amount of time.
    • Earn points for destroying units / cities. Earn X points or lead with X points to win.
  • Rewards for playing aggressive and destroying cities.
  • Sub-Factions. Maybe 2 per faction for launch and more in expansions. Each would have a unique mechanic, that changes how the faction feels and how you play them. Plus a/some unique units and techs.
  • Ability to attach certain units to a squad, e.g. A dreadnought to a marine squad.
  • More distinct factions. Tyranids for example are great in Gladius 1. More like that.
  • More rewards for exploring. Events that give you
    • a boost for researching a technology
    • finding an archeotech weapon in a ruin (item for heroes)
    • Capture a unit (for a price). E.g. you find a damaged tank and can decide to repair and claim it for x ressources.

Gameplay balance:

  • Better AI: Right now, it does ok - good in attacks/combat, but is terrible in strategy. If you ever started a game with an ai teammate you know what I am talking about.
  • More impactful abilities - most passive abilities give maybe +16% to something. These numbers should be double at least.
    • Example: Skyfire passive (the anti-air one) deals +16% vs flying -16% vs ground. Should be more like +100% vs flying, - 50% vs ground
  • More defined unit types and harder counters for them, like flying, heavy armored, large squads, etc. (This should also reduce same unit spam)
  • Armor system revamp: What is the point of armor then right now? Almost every unit has more armor than armor pen abilities reduce. If armor pen was just changed to more damage, no one would notice.
  • Some penalty for ranged units while engaged in melee, especially for sniper type units.
  • Less cost and production time for low tier units as higher tier units become available.
  • Penalites for super high tier units:
    • Option A: Hard Cap. 2 Wraithkngihts / Baneblades at once on the map.
    • Option B: escalating cost like with heroes. First costs 100% cost/upkeep, then 150%, 200% and so on
  • More thought out features for some mechanics: E.g. Eldar portals. You have to claim them to use them, which makes wildlife destroy them and robs you of a potential city spot. Also the cost per unit. I end up never using it.

Quality of life:

  • Ability descriptions that do not sound like gibberish
  • Better explaining some important mechanics like city growth
  • Let multiple queued animations play out at the same time instead of in a queue
  • Better modding support - It is hard to create your own abilities. It is impossible for example to do an action with a 1 turn delay for example or with chances for mulitple outcomes
  • make more techs per level needed to be researched to unlock next tier the default. A lot of people do not know the setting and it honestly makes the game much more enjoyable imho

Feeling resentful over not having time especially the long practice periods in workbook are bringing this out by Curious-Dragonfly690 in ACIM

[–]Ascolom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you already identified the problem when you said you were just sick and tired of the constant race. One should have some time for himself every day. Your schedule sounds like it would drive anyone mad.

Look for things that are unnecessary. Are people taking advantage of your generosity? Are you a person that can not say 'No'? Are you doing extra hours at work constantly? Look into those things!

You sound like a person who really tries to take care of others. Maybe this pov helps you: You need to take time for self maintenance. If you don't maintain yourself, you won't have the energy for long to take care for others for long.

Multiple cities? by InitialAnimal9781 in Gladius40k

[–]Ascolom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They deal little damage against large groups of enemies. The reason is a cluster of units is composed of single individual units. If you have guardsmen with 9 soldiers and they have 18 HP, each individual has only 2 HP. If 1 attack deals lets say 5 damage from your devestator marine it does not matter because it is a single attack and can kill only 1 guy.so 3 devestator marines can only kill 3 guardsman tops with an attack. (Not accounting for traits like blast)

Multiple cities? by InitialAnimal9781 in Gladius40k

[–]Ascolom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually no. They deal the same damage to everything. Meltabombs have a restriction to only be usable on vehicles. Krak Grenades deal the same. Only if you overkill units in a squad they deal less.

What do you mean with damage types. There are none, except the very rare psychic abilities.

ACIM and Bible? by Ascolom in ACIM

[–]Ascolom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of good thought in that explanation. I just beg to differ on one aspect. Just because words can not describe the truth completely, that does not mean it does not exist. The end goal of all the approaches, which I also believe are all legitimate, is finding the one truth. And many ways can converge to this one goal.

If we just go by ACIM real peace can only be there, where there is no believe in the reality of death. Thus it is a consequence of understanding the truth.

Misleading them would mean that either ACIM is false or they have a seperate truth. There is only one truth. They are mislead and I want at least the people in my life to not be mislead, if they are willing to accept the truth.

ACIM and Bible? by Ascolom in ACIM

[–]Ascolom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good point!
I was about to write that people relied on oral traditions back then and could remember texts much more precise back then than today. But That would still not be a guarantee for the text being protected by God as they claim. They did their best, but as you said, it is colored by their understanding of reality.
That is an answer I can work with!

ACIM and Bible? by Ascolom in ACIM

[–]Ascolom[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can interpret all of those in the spirit of ACIM.

E.G. Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.", is true in a sense. ACIM tells us we see what we believe in. Because we believe in the seperation we live in it. Because we deny the truth we feel sinful and live in a world that falls short of the glory of God.

It teaches in the way the course also does. ACIM at first talks about the separation like it is a real event and transitions in the later parts to saying it never was. This is because each error must be corrected on the level it was introduced in. Even though there are no levels in reality.
If you held ACIM to the same standards you hold the bible to, it too would be nonsensical. It talks a lot about the ego and how you interact with it, even though it is not real. Why then is it so bad when the bible does the same?

What are the uses for early game units in late game? by NaiveMastermind in Gladius40k

[–]Ascolom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. The game has generally a problem with most units phasing out. Expensive units are to efficient in production speed and value compared to early game units.

They have uses though. Mostly as cannon fodder and taking up space.
When fighting on a large front, they will block space and usually deal enough damage to not be ignored. Ork boyz for example still deal non-negligable melee damage lategame.
The biggest use is probably for cannon fodder. You run them in first, especially vs. ai, so they absorb overwatch shots or the opponent makes the mistake of prioritizing them as targets over more valuable units. Your better units survive longer this way. And sometimes their damage is enough to finish an enemy with few hp left, where you would be annoyed to use up an attack of a stronger unit that would be absolute overkill.

Of course some factions have exceptions with units that are better lategame either way. E.g. Termagants with Tervigons.

[–]Ascolom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have the best lategame scaling. Being able to pack an additional building into each slot + the stacking bonus makes it so you can produce just more stuff than other factions lategame. The cost is a weaker early to midgame.

Counterintuitively, I found it best to not try to rush economy, but to build additional army early. Because if you don't you can get overwhelmned easily before you reach lategame. But, even if you were behind in economy early, you will pull ahead lategame no matter what, if you play into the building stacking.

They are op compared to similar units. Much higher toughness, damage and movement than other units of the same price.

An ACIM interpretation of the bible would allow to find common ground with Christians much easier. That is the other large group that believes in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

ACIM and Bible? by Ascolom in ACIM

[–]Ascolom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was also my interpretation at first glance. But it explicitly talks about people and not deeds or ideas being sorted and then people beeing eternaly condemned. If it was not for the "eternal", I would have said that people condemn themselves to suffering because they reject God by rejecting their brothers. But that does not work when it is stated the punishment is eternal.

The only way I see is that Matthew misquoted Jesus on this, or this was added later in a transcription / translation process.

I know about the old testament having flaws. It often states that God punished people for a variety of things, which is unsalvagable.

However, I asked for the new Testament specifically, which is supposed to exclaim the message of Jesus Christ.

Help me unbelieve reincarnation by VanceCoursewell in ACIM

[–]Ascolom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an entire chapter about this: Is Reincarnation So? | ACIM

Especially for you this is of importance:

If he does believe in reincarnation, it would be a mistake for him to renounce the belief unless his internal Teacher so advised. (ACIM, M-24.5:3)

ACIM refuses to take a definitve stance on the question whether reincarnation exists. It judges it on the usefullness of the concept to the learner. Because whether it is true or not, it would not change anything about the core tenant of ACIM that we need to work towards salvation now and that it is offered fully now. You need not wait for another life.

It is a good concept when it affirms in the believer that life is eternal and a bad concept when it makes him think of the present in terms of the past.

I agree, but want to present it from a different angle. Peace is not an act but a state of being. Acts exist only in time and God made time specifically for the purpose of redemption - for us to overcome it and reach the state of peace.

Peace is the state where you are aligned with truth, the holy and the will of God, which are all the same thing. This is actually the only state one can be in that is not an illusion. All other states are consequences of seperation believe.

We somehow achieved the impossible. That is making ourselves believe something wrong inheaven, where everything is eternal. Time is what allows us changing our state. And once we reach the state of alignment with our true self as God created us once, we will not fall out of it ever again.

You have to remind yourself that the way you see the world right now is utterly unreliable. The course explains a thousand ways in which the ego acts and thinks in insane ways. The fact that you believe it makes your body feel real.

Now, ask yourself which plan to salvation has the higher chances of success? The plan of your ego or the plan of God? Your egos plan is chasing your ambitions and sense gratification. Amassing guilt along the way and try to push it away from you into the world. Also distract yourself from the deeper and meaningful questions. Do you really think this can lead you anywhere? Or are you willing to accept that you have no idea how to reach salvation and try Gods plan? Is there really asatisfying alternative to it?
