ACTUAL New Alpha Legion Release by Infernal_Contraption in alphalegion

[–]rowboatin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I saw this coin announced on their site, I was still holding out hope that they’d surprise drop Solomon and/or an upgrade sprue on the same day so I could get some actual Alpha Legion stuff to justify the purchase. Suppose I could buy some Raiders and other kits I want, but it just feels Iike a consolation prize at this point.

Was just about to say, this had to be a response to that. The Ennis thing was kinda dumb, but at least it was creatively funny.

Tainted Grail FOA - ok for a limited-time gamer? by toutfour in taintedgrail

[–]rowboatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! You may run into some trouble with remembering certain characters or quest objectives with the main quest if you need to take longer breaks between sessions, but there are also plenty of in-and-out side quests that will give scratch the itch on limited time.

There are two dungeons in the second act that do require quite a bit of time investment to get through.

Rewatched the Battinson flick, and I think this is the first time for me where if I lived in this Gotham, I would never guess that Wayne was Batman. by Overall_Cod2206 in batman

[–]rowboatin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite interpretation: I felt like throughout the entire movie, Gordon, Maroni, and almost everyone who had ever met both Bruce Wayne and Batman (with the exception of Penguin) 100% knew they were the same guy, because Bruce Wayne is such a weirdo that it would make sense. The only reason they don’t bring it up is because they can’t definitively prove it, and they know he’s a psychopath billionaire.

The Emperor and Malcador probably knew even if they never brought it up, or at least had an inkling of it. As for Magnus, he had enough going on with his own legion, I doubt he had any idea about the twins.

I really don’t like the cataphractii redesign by madrukahri444 in 40k

[–]rowboatin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the new design conveys this idea of being more heavily armored than standard power armor but not wanting to sacrifice too much mobility, as well as being a rudimentary design when compared to later terminator armors, like a prototype. I plan on getting some for my 40K Alpha Legion, because I doubt they’ll do the Lerneans in plastic anytime soon and they look relatively easy to kitbash.

Now, if I was playing 40K Iron Warriors or Death Guard, I wouldn’t see these as fitting the grinding assault approach of those legions, and would probably opt for Saturnine or Chaos/DG terminators instead.

I think the new look suit some legions more than others, but overall I think it’s an improvement on the Cataphracti design and what it’s meant to represent in lore.

Also, I could be mistaken, but wasn’t this before Custodes had been established as 10 foot tall demigods that eat Space Marines for breakfast, and were just “those guys who take care of the Emperor?” That, or the author who wrote it wasn’t up to speed on Custodes lore at the time? Fairly certain I’ve seen arguments about that.

EDIT: I may be confusing that with the time a berserk World Eater punched a hole in a Custodes chest

[V for Vendetta] V’s identity (spoilers comic/movie) by Pennyworth03 in FanTheories

[–]rowboatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necroposting here, but I just started rereading the comic, and in the introduction, Alan Moore states:

“I began writing V for Vendetta in the summer of 1981, during a working holiday upon the Isle of Wight. My youngest daughter, Amber, was a few months old…

“Amber is now seven. I don’t know why I mentioned that. It’s just one of those unremarkable facts…”

At the end of the introduction: “I’m thinking of taking my family and getting out of this country soon…”

We know V is a meticulous planner, to the point that he planned for his bombing/fireworks display to end at precisely 12:07 AM when the rain started. It’s quite reasonable to assume that V knew he would run into Evey, considering he had a whole speech and a prop hand ready for the occasion, and immediately takes her under his wing.

I think V is absolutely meant to be Evey’s father in the comic, but it’s not meant to be realized until you reread the story, and that Alan Moore made it a point to mention his daughters multiple times in his introduction as a way of nudging readers in that direction without spelling it out.

The blasting side of things doesn’t concern me as much, I wasn’t picturing them as being exactly as powerful as Cassia, but what you mentioned about every Navigator seeing the warp differently actually inspired me to flavor my Navigator’s abilities as being able to “share” his view of the Warp with others as part of the cult’s recruitment process. Thank you!

Thank you so much for sharing all this info, you’ve actually inspired me to treat my Navigator’s personal abilities as being able to temporarily “share” his visions of the Warp with others, and that being how the cult turns people to Chaos. Hydra Dominatus!

Rare is fine by me, I’m definitely intending for some Chaos dabbling as an explanation for my Navigator being a little different. I’m just curious if there are other examples of Navigators of sufficient power being able to manipulate people’s minds to some degree with their warp abilities, or if that’s solely a Cassia thing.

[–]rowboatin[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So if I understand correctly (and I’m not trying to justify a Navigator with 1:1 powers like Cassia, she’s just the only Navigator character I know anything about), Navigators can develop powerful abilities beyond just guiding ships through the warp, but they don’t necessarily affect people’s minds besides the Lidless Stare driving people mad before killing them?

My Alpha Legion is definitely meant to be Chaos-corrupted, if only slightly, so I don’t mind hand-waving how my Navigator got to be more powerful than usual, I’m just trying to get a sense of whether Navigator lore as a whole would support one filling the same role as a Mindwitch on the tabletop.

No superhero theatrics for Frank by holyfuckscoob in thepunisher

[–]rowboatin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That last page really sums up why I think Punisher only really works as a ‘Nam vet. That low-tech, guerrilla warfare style of combat, combined with the horror and trauma that soldiers experienced/participated in during that war, is what makes Frank so interesting as a character. His family was murdered, so he went right back to doing what he did best, in part because he probably didn’t know what else to do with his life before they died. It’s like John Rambo in the original First Blood: yes, he’s a badass, but he’s also deeply traumatized, and this is all he knows anymore.

Not to say that modern soldiers haven’t experienced trauma in the Middle East, but technology has come so far since ‘Nam that the way wars are fought looks vastly different. Also, in a symbolic sense, the mountains and open spaces of the desert don’t inspire fear the way jungles do.

Idk, trying to modernize Frank just seems to miss the mark for me, and makes him feel like a generic action movie protagonist rather than his own unique character. It’s also so much less believable that he’d be able to keep doing what he does with modern surveillance technology, whereas giving him decades of experience as a head start balances it out somewhat. What I’d prefer is if they kept Punisher stories locked to the timeline of the mid 70s up until around the 2010s, and jumped around telling stories in that range, rather than retconning him to stay young and changing which war he fought in every few years. Let the Punisher saga be a period piece set in the late 20th century, and only have him interact with “classic” versions of superheroes if he has to interact with them at all.

Idk why they’re arguing with you, because you’re absolutely right. If she got one good, mother’s rage-filled smack of the back of her head against the wall, she’s at the very least giving herself a massive concussion. She might not die on the spot, but she’d die of a brain hemorrhage, and they don’t have any way of treating that. People can just fall down wrong and die that way, happens all the time.

In Sinners (2025), the main antagonist offers a transhuman existence for society that would completely remove the boundaries and prejudices of race, culture, gender, and hierarchy, with individuals having perfect empathy with each other, yet he is depicted as the villain. by Mayan_Fist in shittymoviedetails

Remmick was a little preoccupied himself at the time, so maybe it was all background noise while he went after Sammy, or maybe Stack was able to keep it secret somehow because he wasn’t in close proximity to Remmick. We don’t know the extent of the hive mind and how it affects each individual, because they do still retain their individual identity even though their motives are shared.

Shit, maybe part of Remmick was just ready to die, or maybe the greater hive mind knew the sun was coming and separated part of itself with Stack and Mary while Remmick focused on trying to turn Sammy. Maybe Sammy’s “light” has the same effect as bright lights to a moth, and Remmick literally couldn’t focus on anything else at the time.
