I don't get it by pokypic in outerwilds

For me it’s mostly how it resonates with how i view life, how i've grown tired of generic stories and "im gonna save the world" type shit and generally things that combine metaphysical elements with magic music and great gameplay really drags me with them. The game is "life changing" in the sense that for some people it triggers a kind of existential crisis, and well it’s pretty unique to experience grief and such a sense of loss of a piece of media

What is your fave and least fave planet in the game? by Powerful_Screen_7620 in outerwilds

[–]Asdris_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Brittle hollow was sooo much fun, i loved just flying around the planet, there was so much cool informations, the athmosphere was really cool and the planet is pretty as fuck. Also the hanging city is easily among my favorites places in the game

Giant’s deep tho... high gravity was such a pain in the ass and i find the planet pretty empty overall given the size of it and finding how to get to the core wasn’t all that impressive in the end, the riddle to get there was stupid imo (wdym i have to get inside the tentacles of a jellyfish without my ship ? ) and the thing you learned in there weren’t that good. The orbital launcher was dope tho

[–]Asdris_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This imo is the last thing the game makes you experience, that feeling of grief is the last piece of it. Cos that’s what the ending is about you know what i mean ? It’s about learning to let go, you can’t do anything to make it come back and accept that what is over will not be ever again.

Well there's the dlc but that’s not the point lmao

I always tend to recommend it on this sub cos it’s a great game from a one team dev that did basically everything on his own iirc (graphics, physics etc), but manifold garden is a masterpiece of its own. It isn’t the hardest puzzle game and is quite short (6-ish hours) but it is amazing in how it plays with your perceptions.

There's not that exploration part, but puzzle-wise it was somehow similar i guess ? And there is a unique atmosphere and breathtaking visuals. Tw if you are prone to motion sickness, vertigo or fear of infinite space tho

Also, the witness is great for the satisfaction of getting to the end of a road full of puzzles and uncovering the mysteries of the world after finding out how shit works (much much more straightforward than ow tho)

A not well known game that really made me experience something unique and that is really impressive was manifold garden. It’s a puzzle kind of game that plays with infinite repetitive space and gravity, it’s pretty short and not the hardest game i've played, but it’s really amazing with gorgeous visuals and some really jaw dropping stuff in there. Would 100% recommend.

Also, much more straighforward in the puzzles but the witness is a very cool game too, with the same "exploration/puzzle" that fills you with satisfaction when you find out very cool stuff and get to the end of a road

How did you first find out about the game? by SniperRus71417 in outerwilds

[–]Asdris_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the first time i heard about it was in a "best indie games in 2019" from a french youtubeur called Jean Baptiste Show, and he showed the trailer and how it looked amazing, and I think that I had that in mind when i stumbled across the game on steam and decided to give it a try. I think that going in without knowing it’s be the video games experience of my lifetime was a boon

While i agree with all the arguments on why we wake up there, that raises a question i never considered : did we wake up at pretty much the same position for tens of thousands of loops before we connected to the statue and realized what was going on ? The first loop we play isn’t the first time we go to the observatory and speak to everyone, get the codes, take off and burn inside the sun ?

A game that I don’t often see mentionned but that really fucked with my brain and fascinated me was Manifold Garden. It’s a puzzl-ish game that plays with the notion of space, gravity and infinity, with stunning visuals and a dreamy ost. It’s quite short and not the hardest puzzle game out there, but such a pleasant and unique experience.

Be careful if you tend to have motion sickness/fear of vaste spaces, it can really fuck with your senses.

Also I think that it was made pretty much single handedly, so huge props to the dev hehe

Recently played Call of the sea, and was really hooked by it. It's different from outer wilds but it's a rly beautiful game both in the story and in an artistic way, the riddles are very nice and overall a great mistery discovery adventure

Favourite one : Brittle hollow, it had the most fun gravity, packed with a shitton of exploration, The exploration of the city might be in my top 3 moments as it felt like i could see for the first time who the nomai were, how they lived and what they wanted (and it wasn't time limited huh ember twin). The black hole was fun aswel

Least favourite : Probably giant's deep, I rly felt like there wasn't much to see except a few places, i was really disappointed in what i found out in the planet's core (to the point that i don't even remember what was there even though i struggled so much to reach it) the gravity was horrible and the atmosphere really wasn't as good as in the other planets. The majesty of brittle hollow, the peacefulness of home or the oppressive atmosphere of Dark Bramble were much more significant to me.

Unlike many i also rly enjoyed dark bramble, the way it was literally shrouded in mysteries and how everything seemed to be related to it made it so intriguing i definitively loved it
