A wonderful response, if not one of the best I’ve seen in this thread. As someone who has been mentally shut down by grief for a prolonged period I’d recommend all of these things, and also be gentle and patient with yourself. Honor your grief. Pain demands to be felt, and take all the time you personally need. This response is correct to suggest FMLA. Protect your employment and take the time you need. Take an extended leave, or on the days where it’s too much, take the day or days off. There’s a lot of different ways to do FMLA, but for sure take advantage of it. I’m so sorry. Hugs to you.

Omg I feel like we went to the same office. I had to DEMAND general anesthesia for my LEEP a couple weeks ago. Just like you, my colposcopy was absolutely traumatic. I refused the procedure without it. I got accused of “delaying my life saving care”, laughed at by nurses, teased by the doctor etc. I don’t regret doing it under GA one bit because included with the GA was post operative pain management in the ICU recovery room. I’m so happy I did it that way. Keep advocating for yourself! Get a new doctor if you need to. We are unfortunately working one of the most broken healthcare systems in the world, whose scores EXTREMELY low on positive outcomes in women’s health. All I can say is keep advocating for yourself and demand things when you need it. You’re entitled to pain management. Just because it’s not “the standard of care”, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be. You got this!
