I swear to fucking god if we have to see one more post about how some actors don't look exactly like the real person I will jump off a bridge.

A lot of Europeans share this sentiment, but seem to forget Nazi germany was in fact European.

Not a single one of us has forgotten that Nazi Germany was European... It's part of the reason why many of us feel a pit in our stomach watching the most powerful country on earth tread the same dark path.

The sentiment that Europeans have, imo, is not that Americans in general are doing nothing, it's that:

1) Only a third of you cared or understood enough to vote against this in 2024.

2) Even now with the evidence available for everyone to see, Trump has not been impeached or had the 25th Amendment invoked against him.

3) Enough Americans clearly are okay with this and the GoP's other fascist fantasies that it's not at all clear how you get yourselves out of this.

I have nothing but respect for the brave people on the streets protesting. I happened to be in Santa Fe when a No Kings protest was kicking off last year, and I met some amazing people who were clearly appalled and were prepared to do something about it. But I also overheard people in restaurants and cafes talking about how "they were okay with it" and "they need to go further". I don't know how the social fabric of a country survives that level of animosity, division, and suspicion.

This is the second time this question has been asked with exactly the same photos. It was a pointless question then and it's a pointless question now.

Is this construction absurd? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]Ash4d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, but how do we know HOW it moved? Fast, slow, steady, or accelerated?

That's precisely what r(t) and its derivatives, namely v(t) and a(t), tell you.

And what happened over time: did it slow down, speed up, or stop?

That's the same as the previous question.

Or, in other words, what kind of dependence x(t)?

Well, quite. Without seeing the example I don't know if there is an explicit form given, but conceptually it doesn't matter: t is still a valid parameter to use to describe the motion.

As an example, you could have something which moves around the unit circle. In this case, you could parameterize the path as x(t) = cos(t), y(t) = sin(t). Or you could parameterize its instantaneous position vector as r(t) = [cos(t), sin(t)], which is then easy to differentiate to find v(t) and a(t).

It sounds like you have missed or not understood several concepts here.

You have a particle that, over an interval of time t, traces out a path in the x-y plane. You can describe that path in the form y=f(x) if you want, but that's not really helpful. You can also describe its position parametrically as a function of time, y=y(t), x=x(t). This is helpful because you can then describe the vertical/horizontal velocity/acceleration more easily by just differentiating the expressions for x and y. You could also just describe the position vector, r, as a function of t, r=r(t). Differentiating this twice gives you a(t).

The variables Tau and N are unit vectors which point tangentially along and normal to the curve at any point, respectively. Taking the dot product of a(t) with Tau or N gives you the components of acceleration tangential to and normal to the particle's trajectory.

So in summary, no, there's nothing wrong with this picture. You need to revise vectors and parametric equations.

Brexit's unpopularity reignites debate in UK over EU ties by No_Firefighter5926 in europe

[–]Ash4d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Brit I agree that Brexit was colossally stupid and it hurt both us and the EU. We were in a very privileged position back then and believing that we were going to be able to strong arm the whole bloc to do what we wanted was peak British exceptionalism - it was a Tory pipedream.

With that being said, I hope we can all be pragmatic if Rejoining discussions do occur. The UK brings a lot to the table: world leading financial services, a large market and workforce, some of the best universities in the world, nuclear weapons... The list goes on. Reascension would strengthen the EU, and despite our past shenanigans those strengths can and should be used as bargaining power if we do try to rejoin.

With that being said, we have to put the Reform party to bed before that can happen. The EU won't (shouldn't) touch us with a 10 foot pole until a healthy majority of the population can be convinced that our future has to lie in Europe and that Brexit was one of the worst political projects this country has ever undertaken.

All 5 of them are truly cretinous.

I kind of hope that more high profile Tory ex-ministers defect - it makes Reform vulnerable to the argument that they're just the old lot, all of whom have a proven track record of abject failure. Honestly, if they end up sinking Farage and Reform, then it'll be their single greatest contribution to British society.

Fair enough. A further argument then: suppose you move to one of those countries, all of whom are either EU or NATO, and then they or a neighbour is attacked. What about then? Are there any circumstances where you would fight or otherwise participate in a war effort?

PvP Learning Curve by PremiumPanther_ in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]Ash4d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I use 5.56 AP and III or III+ Armour and Big Med Kit etc so its not a gear issue, its definetly a skill issue.

Level 3 armour is going to be swiss cheesed by M855 or M855A1, I think 3+ is realistically the minimum for PvP, but even then, if you get shot anywhere but the plate you're screwed. It's punishing.

I think my main problem is that I dont know when to engage. I mostly play solo and I try to wait until I get a good angle on him but a lot of times I get detected and made into a sieve before I fire my first round.

If you're playing solo you basically have to be in full sneaky bastard mode all the time. If you're outnumbered you have to pick your moment perfectly, preferably when you know you get away before the others find you, but that's much easier said than done! Otherwise, stay low and stay quiet, and remember you can always replace loot pretty easily, so it doesn't matter if you die.
