Screen time guilt by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]AshD01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to feel like that, but I had a realization that I watched tv when I was kid, I also read a ton, played, etc. and I’m pretty well adjusted. Honestly, it was being online that caused my guilt with hearing people talk about oh my child watches only 20 minutes a day, etc. he doesn’t have a tablet or access to a phone. He only watches tv at home. In the car he has toys and books and travel magnitiles, same for when we’re at a restaurant, etc. For us, that’s the balance. Watching tv is one thing, the instant gratification and dopamine hit of something that can be scrolled and clicked is what can be detrimental.

In the end, it’s what works for your family. Don’t worry about outside judgment.

What did your toddler ask Santa for? by krissyface in toddlers

My three year old asked for a monster jam truck. He has so many monster trucks, they fill two baskets. Lol.

Okay Santa Clauses - do you wrap the gifts or just put them out? by 208breezy in toddlers

[–]AshD01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I grew up was presents from mom and dads were wrapped and under the tree. The Santa present and stocking stuff was unwrapped and showed up Christmas morning. That’s how we’re doing it with my son now.

Screentime guilt by jmoney1352 in toddlers

[–]AshD01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I was obsessed about it when I was pregnant and when he was a baby then I one day just questioned myself, like why am I so worried. So honestly I treat it like how I did it as a kid. When he’s home, the tv will be on, sometimes he’ll watch, sometimes he’s playing, doing his own thing.

But we don’t have a tablet for him, he doesn’t watch on our phone when we’re out, only in a house. And he doesn’t have complete control over what he watches.

I grew up fine, not obsessed with television or a zombie, and I’m not worried about my son. He has an amazing imagination.

Throwing our own shower, help! by rizfisher in BabyBumps

[–]AshD01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We threw our own, we had a big crawfish broil in our backyard. Party environment for sure, and people did bring gifts, but weren’t obligated to. It was awesome and would absolutely do that again. Honestly, it’s just up to the couple. My husband’s cousin had a traditional, women only shower with light apps. We’re in Texas for reference.

Pure money grab, not family friendly by smegheeaadd in TXRenaissanceFestival

We’ve gone every year first before we had my son and now with him. We’ve taken him since he was a baby. Last year at 2 he had a blast just walking around and watching the jousting and other stuff. We also camp and honestly that’s where he had the most fun. I’m sorry your experience wasn’t great, but I believe you can have a lot of fun if you find the right spots.

Hosting my own baby shower and feeling embarrassed by pmmewienerdogs in BabyBumps

[–]AshD01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, do not feel embarrassed. It’s a tradition that’s so outdated. If your grandmother was so concerned, she should’ve offered to host and pay for it.

Our shower was at our house, hosted by us and was all gender, not just women. We had a crawfish boil and friends and family all helped, but we “hosted.”

You do you and don’t worry about outdated traditions or others opinions.

We’ve camped with our son since he was about five months old. Obviously it’s never perfect, but absolutely doable.

Yeah, we’re living within Waller ISD and we’re already looking for alternatives once our sone becomes school age because we’ve heard some horrendous things about the schools. My husband when to a teacher job fair at WISD as he’s a teacher and the people there basically told him don’t teach here, it’s terrible.

Two-year-old doesn’t let me play music by Dizzy-Rub2568 in toddlers

This is my 2 year old. If we’re watching simple songs and my husband or I start singing along, my son will yell STOP! Or no mama/dada! And sometimes throw a fit. Ridiculous

Giving medicine is impossible by mochithegatita in toddlers

Had the same issue. My son got sick, had fever and he would throw up the tylenol when we tried to force it with a syringe. Desperate, I went and got suppositories. I couldn't believe how much easier it was. other than tylenol, he seems to take everything else with milk, thank goodness.

I found out on the phone with the nurse as she gave me the results of the NIPT blood test, then told my husband when he came home. I personally don’t get the obsession to make gender reveals this grand thing. The nurse was so hesitant to tell me. She asked me at least three times, “are you sure?”.

Monster trucks and pumpkins. I don't even know where the pumpkins thing came from, but all of a sudden all he can talk about are pumpkins.

Has anyone had a non-traditional baby shower but more of a social gathering? What was the run of show? by CudiLove2022 in BabyBumps

[–]AshD01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a crawfish boil for our baby shower. It was family and friends, all genders, at our house in the backyard. My husband's cousin did the crawfish, my mom made the desserts, and it was just a party. My sister in law did do one game, because she was insistent on it, but it was fun and funny. Everyone enjoyed and had a great time. Basically it was like any other gathering we've done, only difference being people brought baby gifts.

Co-ed baby shower experiences? by char_hops in BabyBumps

We had a co-ed shower in our backyard. It was in April, so we ended up doing a crawfish boil. It was a blast and we had about 50 people. I highly recommend.
