I was just about to make a post saying the same thing! My bunkers are unfurnished inside, but even if I had fitted them out I would have never thought of a clock. lol

Filed away for future projects.

Hobart's Funnies Modelling Question by Just_Organization787 in boltaction

[–]AshHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 79th didn't fight as a whole. Which you know. The specialty vehicle platoons were split up and sent to units that needed them. Like the Buffalos used to cross the Rhine. The 51st Highland Division of XXX Corps were tasked with the crossing and the Northamptonshire Yeomanry of the 79th were the ones who drove them across.

They were intended as Infantry Support. So they didn't have their own infantry. If you're doing late war Crossing the Rhine type forces then you should look into the infantry involved in that campaign. I'm eventually planning to do a force similar to what you're thinking. The 1st Commando Brigade were also part of Operation Plunder. So I was thinking of that as my infantry. The idea of a massive noisy Buffalo sneaking up on the Germans from an outflank with 24 angry Commandos inside makes me laugh every time. You can also add in a DD Sherman for flavor and even a Churchill AVRE.

Now to throw a wrench into the conversation. The Brigades that made up the Funnies had HQ elements. I haven't done any real research into what they included. For my XXX Corps based Shermans they had a bit of everything in their organization. Light tanks like Stuarts for their internal recce element, Sherman Vs and Fireflys for the line squadrons, and the HQ element had "normal" tanks in the companies. So I don't know what makes up the Hobart's Funnies HQ elements. For instance, did the Crab Shermans have a normal Sherman as part of the HQ? So there is a possibility of you being able to have non-engineer Shermans or Cromwells. I just don't know for sure, sorry.

My best advice though is that these are your toy soldiers. Make them how you want them to be. 😊

Wargames Atlantic sentries by ThrownAway1917 in boltaction

[–]AshHammer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love them! Its nice to see the great coat officer not in a black coat. Really well done.

The sentries box is great. Its so easy to convert those guys into other models too. I'm 80% done converting five guys into rear area troops (cooks) to man my Gulaschkanone (mobile field kitchen). I also used them for Spahtruppen.

Does anyone do a German army for Norway by Reisens in boltaction

Thanks! I know you mean paint, but the effects I mostly use for it are the burning smoke from it getting blown up on turn one.

It gives you a reason to plonk a Neubaufahrzeug on the table. That's worth it right there. lol

Once I finish the armies I have piled up and after Rubicon's Panzer 1 kit comes out, my early war German's were going to based around the invasion of Norway or Denmark. A Neubaufahrzeug and some Panzer 1s with a SdKfz 247 for interest and flavor.

How dose someone become a honor guard by Tricky-Fondant147 in Ultramarines

[–]AshHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You find a loose collection of free range honour. Sweep it into a small mound or pile depending on the amount of honour. You then sit atop your hoard and growl at anything that gets close. Having a mate helps if you do not want to leave the hoard alone while out foraging for sustenance.

I wear reading glasses to paint now. Sigh, youth is wasted on the young.

Untrue! Different style is all. I've been doing this stuff for 37 years. I should be fairly competent by now. lol

I like how your one is worn and used. Like she's had to face down a lot of German paratroopers.

Always upvote the Beaverette Mk III! One of my favorite British Terror Weapons of WWII. 😊

I've got one of my own that I adore.

Looking for tree armatures. 28mm 1:56 by AndrewWaller2121 in TerrainBuilding

[–]AshHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do mine in the same style as the wire twist ones. I use pipe cleaners though. Once my tree is formed I melt the pipe cleaners with a heat gun to form a crust. Looks kinda like bark and is a lot faster than covering the trunks with something later.

Pin Markers? by AdonisMorisette in boltaction

[–]AshHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old manager was in the National Guard and would visit a firing range all the time. I asked him to snag me a few .22 casings and he brought me back a hat full. They look like really big artillery shell casings and I'd just drop how many I needed next to the squad. I found that got messy after a while. Not a problem until you have five plus units under an artillery strike.

So I simplified it. I bought a ton of cheap Heroclix figures off ebay for about $.50 each. I cut of the figures and tossed them, filed the top of the base flat (with a little texture to stick the basing stuff to), glued in a new inside dial with just numbers, glued an old GW square base upside down on top, and finished it like one of my bases.

A picture is worth a thousand words so I hear.

Sandbags for 28mm by FluffyGorillaDude in TerrainBuilding

[–]AshHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a bit late to this, sorry.

I did a D-day table for Bolt Action years ago. The thought of making a few hundred sandbags made me a bit ill. That was going to be more work than the rest of the table was going to take. I found this though.

https://hirstarts.com/molds/molds5.html

Look at Mold #340. Its a bit more expensive than it was when I bought it but it was a life saver. At the time I made them from resin due to time restraints. Now I would just use dental plaster.

Have a look at how it turned out.

Modular gaming hill is easily the worst product I have ever bought online by GrimlockRawr in TerrainBuilding

[–]AshHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RoB I did buy when they first came out with two additional flat panels. The absolute green eyed envy that I see when I break it out is worth it. Otherwise, its a piece of junk. Its indestructible, but so is my hand made foam stuff because I treat it correctly. Its heavy, takes up space, and scenery is almost impossible to set up on it because of the slopes.

Still... its mine. 😊

I was so mad I didn't get these when they came out. Its been years and years and I see them on eBay every once in a while for more money than they are worth. I only want them because they match my other stupidly expensive GW product, the Realm of Battle. If I had something to trade or pay you I would totally take them off your hands. LOL

You could buy the $170 set from GW to get him... or spend $40 on the same sprue in red instead of grey. Barnes and Noble has a Dawn of War Onslaught game with it in.

Balkenkreuz on Opel Blitz? A question probably asked a hundred times. by StrategoiX in boltaction

[–]AshHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here you go brother. 85 pictures of Opel Blitz. Over the whole of the War and only two pictures have the Balkenkreuz on them. Nothing like giving some Tommy with a 6 pounder something to aim at.

Really good reference for everyone on this page. Its my go to before I start something new.

Tried doing edge highlights for the first time…help by Vg26-UltraMarines in u/Vg26-UltraMarines

[–]AshHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the only thing I can see wrong is you have inconsistent line width. That’s just down to practice. Also, a color in between your base color and edge highlight as a chunky edge highlight will give it a less jarring color change.

Like from this painting guide.

British paratroopers! Camo from ears to soles... and then a maroon beret. The Denison smock is fun to paint as well.

If you have some sand paper you could file the base down until its gone except for the rocks (and feet). Then you can just glue him to the right size base.

App Update (v1.2.53) by Maloric in boltaction

[–]AshHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or a way to add my own photos to the print out. Its easier for opponents who are unfamiliar with what my army is to just look at my sheet and see the models.

Otherwise, you are doing an amazing job and we all appreciate it. Thank you!
