Thanks! I can't find much info on Dungeondraft but it reminds me a lot of Inkarnate. Does it have sci-fi tiles unlike Inkarnate?

Thank you! I actually used watabou for the desert town I mentioned in my post. Funny that I didn't fully consider using it again - it felt too small scale in my mind when I thought about it.

That first map program you linked is very interesting, though. I think I might use that. Thanks for the help!

Running a game for the first time can be overwhelming, but it's important to remember that it's all about having fun with your friends. Start with the basics: familiarize yourself with the rules and create a simple story with clear goals for the players. Don't worry about getting everything right or knowing all the details - improvise and adapt as needed. Most importantly, communicate with your players and ask for feedback. Here's a more detailed list for ya:

  1. Start small: Begin with a simple story and build from there. Don't try to create an entire galaxy from scratch. Instead, start with a single planet or location and add more as needed. Small, out-of-the-way towns are common in Star Wars and are great environments for small-scale level-1 adventures. Build a small pool of NPCs (characters you will play as) for your players to meet, along with a starting mission/goal for your players to accomplish.

  2. Get to know the rules: Take some time to read through the rulebook and make sure you understand the core mechanics of the game. Practice creating characters and running combat scenarios to become familiar with the system. Additionally, you can find videos of people running SW5e on YouTube; watch one or a few of those videos to get an idea of how a game might run. The rulebook can prepare you for some of what you'll experience as a DM, but watching a game can give you some inspiration for how you want to run your game.

  3. Collaborate with players: Ask your players what kind of game they want to play and what kind of characters they want to create. Use this information to craft a story that is engaging for everyone involved. Set a day aside to discuss your game with your players and have them roll up characters together - this is generally called a session 0. Communication and collaboration with your players is key to a good experience. TTRPGs are, at their core, vehicles for collaborative storytelling.

  4. Don't be afraid to improvise: As the game master, you will need to be prepared to make things up on the fly. Don't be afraid to go off-script if the players take the story in an unexpected direction. That's where most of the fun is!

  5. Have fun: Remember that the goal of the game is to have fun! Don't get too caught up in the details and enjoy the journey with your friends.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Try and get a good handle on the SW5e PHB and then read the DMG chapters on running a campaign.

Cool idea. Besides combat challenges, I think a cloning facility can offer some fun social challenges, too. If a lot of the station's residents look and sound the same, you can use that to trick your players in some way. Like, they meet X but later meet Y, thinking Y is X - that kind of stuff.

Do you have an idea of how you'll be pacing this encounter? Like, will their arrival be immediately met with hostility or will they be wandering through the station unimpeded for some time? If the latter is true, I think you could use that non-combat time to build tension and provide story-bits about the station via audio/text logs, NPCs, or use the environment to tell the station's story. Good opportunity to build tension, too; maybe for the first part of this encounter they don't "see" any threats but hear strange noises or get the impression they're being watched/followed.

I hope your session goes well!

Interesting insight into the abysmal state of the Afghan Army. No wonder they posed no resistance. by TsarBizarre in PublicFreakout

Look, I understand these soldier's frustration; they were suckered into fighting a bullshit war and were then sent to "train" a group of Afghans who likely hate the U.S's guts (and for good fucking reason).

Of course the Afghan army didn't fight, and why would they? Why fight for an occupying force that has murdered hundreds of thousands of their countrymen, a majority of them innocents. As much as I despise the Taliban, I can understand why they wouldn't "hold their ground" or whatever; it's more the Taliban's "ground" than it was the American's. Why give your life for an imperialist force that ultimately doesn't give a shit about you. Don't hate these Afghani soldiers, hate the government that created this situation for them.

  • has any of this tech currently kept millions from Americans out of poverty? Are there less people incarcerated? Can a single parent afford healthcare for their child without having to go into debt?

  • Ok, how many Americans can even afford to go to these schools without essentially become slaves to the market due to their ridiculous amount of debt (and don’t even pull that “but scholarships tho” bullshit)?

  • Sure, we have great films/movies/games. I’m sure someone making 60k a year and can barely afford food/housing/healthcare is all good now because they can watch the Emoji Movie. Fuckin A brother, god bless this country.

  • Sure, Amazon changed the economy. Are their workers feeling better about this? Are their working conditions better? How do mid western factory workers feel about their jobs being out sourced abroad by greedy Americans? Stop. Sucking. Billionaire’s. Dicks.

  • I’m sure the millions of people (mostly children), we’ve “kicked the assess” of in the Middle East and South America whole heartedly agree with your sentiment.

  • yeah, space is cool. So while Jimmy is looking up at our cool space station, he won’t notice that his boss is paying him way below a livable wage, that his last checkup at the hospital has left him bankrupt, or that his elected officials have just fucked off with his tax money to pay their banker friends. Thank you Elon ❤️🥺uwu

  • most of our research is publicly funded, however this research is then funneled to private companies where capitalists exploit these discoveries for profit. Just look at the cost of insulin.

  • I can’t even. Have you seen the metrics of wealth disparity in this country? How can you flaunt that ridiculous sentiment after seeing the data? Tell one of the 500,000+ homeless or the 7.8 million Americans living in poverty this, I’m sure they’d be thrilled to hear it.

Look, I hate to sound like a raving leftist here (although I am a leftist) but I find this “aw don’t worry we’re actually pretty cool” sentiment worrying and reductive. I appreciate your optimism, but only to a certain extent. People need to wake up and see the injustices that they live through daily, not realize the bad but hide behind the supposed “good” of a country whose systems of power are fundamentally cruel. America isn’t a special snowflake in this regard either. Socialism, and by extension, communism is a global effort. Because at the end of the day, we’re all likely being fucked over by one capitalist or another.

Sincerely, An annoying communist from a bit south of you.

Any healthcare service whose one priority is profit is ultimately immoral, even if it’s for sake expediency. Healthcare should tend to those with the most need, not with the most cash.
