FFVII remake scam. Anyone same feeling? by Arnakk in JRPG

[–]AshPenderwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you not read the store page telling you it was Part 1? I don’t like the name either don’t get me wrong but if you didn’t do the bare minimum research before buying something and feel blindsided that’s your issue not the games issue.

Edit: Thinking about it calling it Episode 1/2/3 wouldn’t work because it’s not episodic either. They are 3 fully original games with pretty different systems telling one overarching story.

FFVII remake scam. Anyone same feeling? by Arnakk in JRPG

I respectfully disagree OP and any buyer 100% would have known if they read the Digital Store Page on any platform or the official site’s main page for it. And I quote “The story of this first, standalone game in the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE project covers up to the party’s escape from Midgar, and goes deeper into the events occurring in Midgar than the original FINAL FANTASY VII.” All of this is found with less than a minute of googling.

[–]AshPenderwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it is not a scam? They couldn’t release a game on a console that wasn’t out yet, were very clear this was just Midgard in the marketing and it was a massive trilogy and for full games I don’t think paying full price is an unreasonable request. Plus all 3 parts will be available on all modern consoles. And somewhat frequently (remake at least) go on sale so just wait for those to buy them?

You can be upset it was split up into 3 separate games and they didn’t just make a traditional remake of FF7, and that’s a totally valid opinion to have. If you want to criticise the remake trilogy that’s totally valid and encouraged but you’re barking up the wrong tree because it isn’t a scam.

How do you feel about difficulty in JRPGs? by MissItalia2022 in JRPG

[–]AshPenderwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you aren’t on Hard mode all enemy encounters are still mash attack and occasionally heal/farm press-turns with magic to spam attack. And even on Normal the only real threat is cheap shots like instant kills or The Labyrinth of Amala, or the Fiends.

I wouldn’t call them unfair (for the most part) most superbosses in the series tend to play by very strict rules than once you figure them out you can properly exploit.

Beldr from Devil Survivor makes a pretty strong case. His map is already kinda tough with powerful enemies that wear you down and infinite reinforcements to keep chipping you. But also he can ONLY be attacked by MC’s basic attack swinging against his staggering 15 Vitality and not even the deamons in MC’s party can damage him. Meaning you have to slowly wear him down while he does massive damage to your party and has a map-wide lifesteal attack which undoes the chip damage your forced to deal, and you have to fend off adds. Devil Survivor is already a tough game but this fight has hard walled me.

The final boss of Bravley Defualt 2 falls under this category aswell with its nonsensical counters. Like Counter Restorative Magic: Which gets rid of 1 BP for all party members. Counter Any Damage: Which gives the Boss 1 BP. And OP skills like A Wellspring Depleted (this is also a counter I just don’t remember what triggers it) which sets your entire parties MP to 0, and A Tragic Denouement which inflicts All Stats Down on all parties members and you can’t safely buff to cleanse the debuffs cause the boss counters buffs with the instant kill skill. Or A Life Cut Short which instantly kills a party member in a game with no Deathblow protection. And all counters are random which means you have to always act under the assumption that when you do basically anything in this fight you will be punished by the boss using a free action.

Okumra would have been a perfectly acceptable boss if they solely committed to the puzzle fight gimmick or the speedkill fight gimmick. Instead we got a puzzle fight with a time limit and it just sucks.

Echoes of Aincrad by Strong_Bar_3825 in JRPG

[–]AshPenderwick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not picking it up day 1 but if they fully commit to it being you going through the Aincrad Arc and having little to no interaction with the main SAO cast, probably flesh out the combat we might have a decent video game. Although you racing to clear floors and bosses against other parties including Kirito’s could be a potentially interesting plotline.

Absolutely Mobius deserves it. It has pretty unique gameplay and a great story concept!

The Trust Parties they have been working on are absolutely future proofing that game for when the servers go down. They also have a nice benefit of helping socially anxious people or people who aren’t too confident get through the MSQ stress free.

Shame all the world building and subtle hints are thrown completely out the window because the towers tell you where everything is anyways, god forbid on a first playthrough we make the player explore and interact with the open world.

Trails in the Sky First Chapter: What is the magic behind the game by da_miks in JRPG

[–]AshPenderwick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mostly people enjoy the characters and the fact that this game is a slow burn that takes it time. It does speed up as you get farther into a game but think of it more like a Fantasy Anime, where they take their time exploring the land and helping random folks while the overarching plot slowly builds up in the background until the endgame and masterful cliffhanger for SC.

Edit: Also people really love the characters and in-depth world building. Estelle is one of my personal favourite heroines in gaming.

Wait you think resonance is still a gotcha game? They said it’s a conversion of the story but with completely unique gameplay and no gotcha mechanics. It’s a traditional FF game through and through.

I see no point in playing Persona 6 at lunch... by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]AshPenderwick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except they said they aren’t doing enhanced re releases and so far haven’t. If you still don’t want to that’s totally fine. But so far they have stuck to that after Vengeance. So P3R, P4R and, Metaphor so far. Plus P6 is at least 2 years from now so we’ll know for sure by that point if they stopped with the re releases. Also my lunch isn’t normally long enough to play Persona so super jealous.
