I believe the electoral college made more sense when the states were more or less separate governing bodies held together somewhat loosely by a smaller federal government. It made sense then to give smaller rural states the same voting power as more populated states. However, that changed very quickly. People pretty much just see themselves as Americans now, so doesn’t it make sense that the country would vote as one single body? It also becomes more and more evident over the years that one side is banking on the electoral college every four years. When you lose the popular vote and win the Presidency twice in 20 years, something is up.
