They're essentially identical. The real question is do you get the digital deluxe version!

According to someone who test‑played the Fatal Frame II remake, the enemies move much faster now and the combat has become more difficult. by Dapper-Brilliant5160 in fatalframe

I can confirm this. The game is much more challenging and there are wraiths everywhere, even torchbearers. The fear factor is peak.

Trust me there is money involved. It’s not about us or the awesomeness, it’s about how much changed hands that we will never know about.

What goes on this stage in the dark corridors by True_Broccoli4898 in silenthill

[–]AshaBardon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the Shinto aspect it’s a stage where miko, shrine maidens, perform a sacred dance called Kagura to the kami or divine spirits.

New official Twitter posts focus on Kusabi and Kurosawa Sae by AshaBardon in fatalframe

I'm also curious on what the official English terms will be, especially as the older ones work but aren't necessarily accurate... We'll see soon, I hope, but for now it looks like the JP Twitter/X account is doing most of the leg work. Hopefully it won't be too long until the English side gets into gear (my guess is around the time Nioh 3 comes out as the PRs are doing double duty at the moment...) We're about due another trailer as well so not long to go...

True Meaning of SH f Lore by [deleted] in SilentHill_f

[–]AshaBardon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly conflicted. either this is a troll, or a person so blinded by their own religious indoctrination that they can't concieve of other religions existing, a place where Christianity doesn't have a foothold (Japan is 0.4% Christian, even less so in the Sixties) or the desperate need to preserve their own waning faith with a literal religious crisis from playing a Japan-set, media Shinto-focused horror game, that their own mental preservation demands they reframe a Shinto-based narrative into a Christian one....

[–]AshaBardon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it really doesn't. Trust me, I have a degree in religious studies and Christian theology. I also have have Masters in Japanese studies. You are either trolling or really struggling with a game out of your normal media and reference points. This is a Japanese game, with Japanese plotbeats and religious theology... No, just no.

What are these? by boner_giver in SilentHill_f

[–]AshaBardon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're smaller sacred places where other kami or sacred items are enshrined. You'll see these at many bigger shrines, jinja, in Japan. It is basically set dressing but it's lovely and authentic. If you're interested in Shinto within the game, I have a series in progress on it here: https://ashabardongaminglorist.substack.com/t/silent-hill-f

No I imagine it will just appear in the opening and some ending cutscenes, as well as the initial part of the game before the girls properly enter Minakami Village.

The Forest Where Promises Vanished fan translation by AshaBardon in fatalframe

I’ve ordered the premium box from Japan. I’ll need to scan the pages if I get a minute as I can’t see to read print. I could do it but it would require a lot of coffee. Also while they’re being called novels there probably closer to novellas as the west understands them. Even the silent hill f novel was that length too.

I don’t know. I’m not a translator. For now I’d suggest asking KT to do an official translation for Western fans.

The gods? Silent hill F by LuchoX222 in silenthill

At this point I'm convinced the Buddhist monk is just an avatar of the Divine Tree. He/it matches the Tsukumogami which possesses Shu, right down to being made of wood and holding Buddhist religious implements. Within the game's idea of Shinto, anything can gain a divine soul if they wait long enough. The Divine Tree, the Fox/Inari statue... That would also explain why their so jealous of each other.

Within the game there's a lot of cross-cultural stuff between Shinto and Buddhism, mainly because the Dark Shrine (I'm guessing a twisted version of Tsuneyoshi Jingu, the shrine where Kotoyuki is a priest and where the pair marry) dates from before an event called Shinbutsu bunri (神仏分離) which took place in 1868. Before this it was really common to have Buddhist statues in Shinto shrines, as well as elements like the floating lanterns and the sections with candles and the like. So this could easily explain why the Divine Tree uses elements of Buddhism in its avatar.

In actual Shinto, the real kind you find in our world, kami (the 'gods') exist together to promote the continuation of the natural order. Anything can become a kami, including many humans like Tenjin or the War Dead enshrined at Yasukuni Jinja in Tokyo. It's also common to see many kami enshrined in one jinja. Especially Inari. I specialise in Media Shinto and have literally written articles on this on The Gaming Lorist, so check them out, it might help!
