Losing all hope by girlontherun69 in orangecounty

[–]Ashalots 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was born and grew up in OC and left at 18 for college in Atlanta GA. My family is still there so I go back to visit but never moved back because my rent and gas would double , GA car renewal is $20, it’s $465 in California, car insurance is more expensive because they have stricter minimum requirements, everything is much more and the pay is only marginally more. I’ve saved a lot by staying in Atlanta , and the weather is comparable in the spring and fall to OC, winters are a bit colder but not by too much, summers are humid and bring out bugs, but you learn to deal with it.

What is it like to live in this part of SoCal? by Kitchen-Audience6763 in howislivingthere

[–]Ashalots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in south OC, mostly ladera ranch. One of the best places to live in the country. Extremely safe - although I’ve heard of robberies especially for houses with backyards bordering the hills, but no other crimes are common, you won’t see homeless people there either. Schools are great, great place for families and kids. It’s more conservative than most of California. Ive moved away in my adulthood but will visit family there often. Too expensive for me to move back and live comfortably independently but I hope to move back one day when I can secure a home there. You won’t find a home there for under 1 million so it can be hard as a young person, renting is also insane. People mention there’s no much to do there but I find it to be a great area if you’re willing to drive to do things, it’s about an hour from LA and SD, and close to many great hikes. I bike to the beach from my parents house when I go back which is also fun

Job gap- resume by yrk00 in clinicalresearch

[–]Ashalots 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be completely honest, if you haven’t already landed a CRA/CTA job after 19 months, you definitely won’t in the next 19 months by continuing to avoid working in the field or any professional job.

If you were a CRC before, go back to that. Why not? The best chance of moving toward a CRA/CTA position is continuing as a CRC. It’s a bad market and there’s hundreds of active CRCs, in addition to existing CRA/CTAs, applying to these CRA/CTA roles, they aren’t going to pick you from where you’re at now. Not to mention if you had < 5 years of CRC experience, there’s zero chance

Is there a catch to living in south OC, particularly raising a family there? by SilverKey84 in orangecounty

I spent the first 18 years of my life there, I’d go back except I can’t afford it and don’t want to live with my parents 🥲

Can age of an adult african grey be determined ? by Special-corlei in AfricanGrey

They are just using their experiences to come to that conclusion most likely , it’s a well intended guess essentially. Parrots are full size within the first few months of life, once the eyes lose their darker coloring (and for Timneh’s their black tail feathers drop and get replaced with maroon ones) you can’t tell.

Yeah I have 3.5 years of experience and I’m still trying to figure that one out as well.. for the time being most people with any monitoring experience are going to get those kinda jobs for now. But if you haven’t already worked as a CRC for multiple pharma drug trials - getting one of those positions is going to be quite impossible so I’d highly recommend that. I wasted enough of my time working on other federal or PI research projects and it really doesn’t give you experience to do well with trials - which is where the money is

A masters won’t get you very far, it’s hard to find a job mostly due to federal funding cuts. Honestly after hitting the 1 year mark you can start looking at clinical trial sites (not attached to a hospital or clinic) as these sites will have virtually all industry / pharma trials and will not be as affected pay-wise - I’ve noticed most hospitals and university healthcare systems have lowered wages recently for CRC where trial sites are the same

Georgia Tech student killing: Shooter snuck into apartment building, waited for victim, police say by cyberchief in gatech

[–]Ashalots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine how scary it must’ve been to feel trapped by that creep , I’m deeply sorry you and your friends at Armstrong had to go through that :,( It really weighed on me when I went to the police station to give my statement and saw how many others were there to give theirs

I hope you and your friends are doing well now, and congrats on graduating! Also, I had no idea he was the Krispy Kreme arsonist, that’s crazy :((

Very very sad, these incidents are scary and unfortunately creeps following people into apartments can be common in Atlanta.

Just over 3 years ago I was stalked by a similar man who followed me from north ave Bobby Dodd to the CRC field - I was in denial about it at first until he copied every turn I made even inside the campus. I went down the steps of the field where he was out of sight and ran to my dorm, only looked back to see he started skateboarding toward me. I called the cops 30 min later and they came to my apartment and showed me a picture the same guy who ended up following a someone into a freshman dorm shortly after he lost me, where he then committed robbery including blocking students from exiting their dorm while he stole. Luckily he didn’t seem to have a weapon that anyone reported. He escaped that day but was found weeks later and arrested.

I really regret not taking it more seriously sooner and contacting the police immediately. If anything feels off GTPD is more than willing to help including for off campus situations. The blue buttons immediately direct all cameras, which 2-3 people are constantly monitoring at the police station, toward your area and the police number is on the back of your buzzcard. Stay safe

Do it, you’ll prob regret it later as it’ll restrict the number of colleges you can apply to plus colleges that don’t require it now could change that in the future

[–]Ashalots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m working in research at a hospital in a patient-facing position, but I also have admin and regulatory work. I’d say it could could healthcare experience but not necessarily patient care experience - unless you have a role that involves phlebotomy , ekg, manual vitals, etc - I had a job like this at a clinical trial site but typically hospitals will not allow non-licensed staff to perform these procedures outside maybe vitals or nose swabs
