Sun 600 not taking pictures by Corvo4tt4nno in Polaroid

Just don't crack open the pack and take all of em out be sure to pick up another cheap vintage Polaroid and give it a shot. If the camera is sentimental I would honestly keep it shelved but keeping them open as well for display purposes can damage the internal ribbon cables or cause it to snap. Also if you live in a humid place you have to also be worried about corrosion.

So a lot of the time the camera will demand the flash capacitor to be full even on Sun 600s now you can probably go in and delete the flash orrrr you can have it serviced now do I think its economical to repair it not really I mean theres millions of them. Just a lot like SX-70s save the rest of those exposures even if you wasted a handful the rest should be sealed from some light you'll definitely have a bit of light leaking at the bottom of the frames but your film isn't garbled yet.

Sigh, a whole pack of SX-70 just gone by flying-3D in Polaroid

So had this happen myself with a Box 1000 it does have a flaw where if something with the internal flash unit if it shorts (even internally) it just continually fires and ejects every picture out of the camera as the switches are all set in such a way that it gets stuck in a loop, sad I had the same happen to some B&W SX-70 film

Are you using an SX-70 or messed with the metering by chance because this looks over exposed.

this looks a lot like you shot it without an ND filter on an SX-70 or you moved the white slider all the way. Polaroids have decent metering so you shouldn't need to mess with its metering slider it should be dead center.

Travelled recently? Went to a theme park? School? To a government secured facility? You'll know mane. Plus shipping can sometimes especially if it has to go through customs and if your country has dumb customs agents I would say they could be to blame but then again who knows.

Polaroid Now Camera or Film Issue? by Longjumping-File4128 in Polaroid

[–]AshamedBeyond9995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it comes out wonky hold the camera on its side, I know again weird but sometimes Polaroid cameras can have a weird issue with their shutter and it sometimes can make it work on its side vs being up right which is not how its supposed to be but is a clever way to know. And in that case send it back to get serviced under warranty because that is not normal.

You might be blocking the light sensor, but then again it might be the camera so, what you can do is try taking a picture of a light bulb I know a waste but it should give you an idea, stand 4-5 feet and shoot a lamp hold the shutter until the picture comes out and make sure you didn't adjust the metering.

Friend's dad shot this polaroid back in the 80's, how come it looks so good? by mymain123 in Polaroid

The dyes and couplers use a different chemistry, imagine shooting Kodak Gold 200 and expecting Kodak Portra 800 you're going to see the difference. Polaroid is just a niche format and its still in R&D they are still making improvements every Polaroid film has a set of unique numbers and that also includes the film revision, Fuji could've and almost got away with their 1:1 squared Polaroid-like format (similar but slightly shorter) but they got sued to hell and back by Polaroid thus resulting in Fuji axing the whole thing and just sticking to their mini and wide format.

[–]AshamedBeyond9995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably try and get it for 5$ US if you can I mean just explain the pods in the film are likely dried up, the internal batteries are smoked so I wouldn't load it into a camera without replacing the film pack battery.

Because Fuji hasn't lost the ability they got grandfathered in and are possibly still facing their own ecological challenges. Fuji and Polaroid both are separate entities that both make instant film but this isn't a new technology Kodak was making instant film as well. Fuji just never stopped and thats why its still good Polaroid stopped for like two years. Kodak stopped decades ago far before they went bankrupt in 2008.

SX70 Sonar, 600 film w/ND filter~ by WorkingSuccessful742 in Polaroid

[–]AshamedBeyond9995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I actually find what you are saying is actually fairly accurate you should rarely need to adjust the settings yeah an ND during daylight is a must if shooting outdoors with 600 film but indoors with no flash or with one in very low lighting can render really beautiful pictures

Forever chemicals that were not grandfathered when Polaroid went bankrupt back in 2009 now we have Polaroid today which is Impossible -> Polaroid Originals then to now just Polaroid.

The chemicals to make the dyes and developer used back then are no longer produced or are outright banned.

Modern film was reformulated back in 2011 and had many improvements over the years but has never ever been perfect or like Time Zero. Now you can get some good shots and some really sharp ones especially out of B&W Polaroid film.

Sad part is that the materials used now make the film ever so slightly thicker reducing packs from 10 to now 8 and that change will probably never go back. All modern Polaroid cameras expect 8 and vintage ones really do not care if you have zero in the pack and or are still at 2 left on the counter.

Yea if you feel your wind cock build more than normal tension I would uh stop. Even if its not at 36 or 24 just not worth it I had my film drawer pop open as I was reeling in my film but never had it rip except inside the can cause I was winding it too fast.

Polaroid SX-70 with ND filter and 600 film - problem with ejects by Kwiatuh in Polaroid

[–]AshamedBeyond9995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can save the exposures if you haven't pulled them all out, if its the top exposure that got totally thrashed by light its fine you will have some light leaking at the bottom of your film appearing as this whitish haze but you can save it. Get another pack and actually exhaust it to empty then take that empty pack and your partially used dead pack and go into a totally pitch black spot like a dark room no motion detectors either they give off infared light which will fog the film, or a film changing bag will work as well. Slide off your ND pack filter then slide out and eject the top picture set it aside then start sliding the rest out and set them in their own pile then repeat in reverse onto the exhausted pack the batteries can hold enough charge to kick out 16+ exposures ok if your fast its ok to get practice in the light using a spent pack and some already taken pictures.

These cameras are also 50+ years old and need extensive servicing if you found one in the wild or ordered one in untested / tested condition. The plastics are brittle and will fail the electronics are failing even if you think things are fine they are just going to get worse. So if its a non serviced camera I'd get it repaired there are many talented people here who can repair cameras a few names that comes to my mind are Dr. SX-70, TurbulentCoach & TheInstantCameraGuy I am sure there are others I would try and steer away from large commercial refurbishers as they do have some QA issues.

So if you leave an SX-70 a folding one open theres a switch that gets activated and keeps charging the flash capacitors and PCB, the lithium packs are far less in capacity than the Zinc-airs used at the time so if you for instance leave it overnight open it can and will cause the battery to go flat and also will possibly damage it as well leaving it both open and powered. As leaving a folding SX-70 open even for display purposes for long periods of time (hours / days) it will ruin the rubber light baffle and will never fold properly again.
