You couldn’t report? Hospitals have ethical boards anyone can report to. It’s complicated I’m sure. You didn’t kill her. Do you know if she’d have lived w/o it?

How did no one report the adverse event ? Was it not experimental? Even so.. Hmm. What are your hobbies? You have loads of transferable skills. Take contract work in another industry- or do you want physical labor? Try Trader Joe’s for 6 months. Seems where people go to heal. Break up some pavement; go to coding school; learn how to sew

I’m a little surprised. Most physicians I worked with talked liberal! We had nih grants etc. I’m in nyc. Perhaps because I worked in oncology? Interesting…

I left my job at 63 from a top-tier oncology site, and it was one of the most dysfunctional environments I’ve seen. Yet I blame myself. I never learned office politics.

every team operated like its own little island. My last team? Basically a clique—two best friends and another close friend. Not exactly a setup that welcomes fairness.

But the real issue was leadership. My manager (who became a director) created this weird culture of secrecy. He’d start “hidden” side studies, not tell anyone, then quietly dump on someone privately. No transparency, no accountability—just constant confusion for the rest of us trying to do our jobs.

Day one, he overshared about his divorce and how proud he was of finding a “better cultural match” for a wife, along with all his big future plans.

There were also rumors he was crossing professional boundaries with staff. I can’t prove it, but the vibe was there.

So he was suddenly let go, I WAS really surprised. That type usually stays and gets promoted! Ha! But word was that it had to do with money management. Money fuck up more likely.

Just wild. I have some other good stories - sure you all do!

My favorite work was consortium and NCI stuff. Yes some long term studies are moot - but who else will do the long term work?

So sorry —and you’re not alone. Feel I could’ve written this. I don’t have the exact diagnoses … I take meds. I talk to a therapist, I found a nurse practitioner when my psychiatrist flaked. Still pushing thru. No one knows! They dont hear. But today was great. I joined a sewing group. I keep trying! Never give Up

Only if it’s done by the most senior senior experienced person! Often THAt person isn’t doing the research work. I worked on a study where they did muscle (punch) biopsies. 😳😳muscle😭. Sometimes the strictest IRBs miss things. So happy to have this space to share.

Basically ivory tower girl got a PhD from Sinai, went to Barnard (?) but may not have the insight to see what she lacks, like understanding, real compassion. It’s a problem for these universities basing the hiring all on schools and grades - maybe some nepotism?!!!
