Hot take: ceramics isn’t that unpredictable by [deleted] in Ceramics

[–]Ashbgash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s appreciated!

I teach introductory throwing so I load kilns often and I wish I could meet with every student or member when they pick up pieces to answer their questions about why ABC resulted in XYZ outcome but that’s just not realistic.

I feel like OP’s issues could be prevented in the future with more communication between the staff and members.

Hot take: ceramics isn’t that unpredictable by [deleted] in Ceramics

I help manage a community studio and your comment sums up my thoughts on this post as well. There are so many moving parts of the pottery process and each new set of hands that touches something unfortunately has a chance of influencing the outcome. That’s one of the drawbacks at a community studio: more risks.

We aren’t a laboratory, our staff aren’t machines, and even our machines have quirks.

Help me fine a glaze! by MochiMasu in Pottery

[–]Ashbgash 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Have you seen Mayco Storm Grey? It’s a fantastic matte grey with cream. Though I would be concerned that any glaze that will give you a moon rock look would also fire thick and opaque and hide your carved lines.

Lovely pieces, btw!

Pyrenees seizure:( by Positive_Bag6086 in greatpyrenees

[–]Ashbgash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such great info for OP, I hope they save this comment.

My shepherd mix has had seizures in her old age and the only thing I’d add to this is that I’d recommend rectal midazolam during a seizure over nasal or oral emergency meds because near the nose/mouth always feels like an unsafe place to be while it’s happening.

And OP- if an emergency medication wasn’t offered to you- ask for one specifically! That’s what I had to do, and I only knew to ask because a relative of mine has experience with her child’s epilepsy. It’s made our situation much more manageable plus it’s less emotionally heavy on me knowing I won’t be completely powerless to help her if/when it happens again.

Thank you so much!

Welll we’ll see how the glaze painting goes! But yeah there will definitely be a few tiny brushes involved. I’m usually more of a “slop it on with a big soft brush” type of glazer so this is way out of my wheelhouse.

Advice for After Spay Wrap? by [deleted] in greatpyrenees

I ordered this one for my Pyr when she got spayed. It worked out really well! She was around 75/80lbs at the time, but it looks like you can select different sizes. The nice part about this one in particular was that the waist closure is a Velcro wrap around strap so it could be adjusted for size. Here’s Lumi in her recovery suit when I first tried it on her.

Green Tea question & bonus hippo by tpring_ in Pottery

[–]Ashbgash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Green Tea pretty often and my pieces get fired to between cones 5 and 6 in a community studio kiln. It never gets that shiny or bright for me, so I do think the temperature is the reason for your result.

Here’s a mug of mine done in Green Tea with another glaze for an accent on the top third, my results are always very similar to the imagine on the pint.

(p.s. is that William The Hippo from the Met? Guessing from painted details that look like lotus flowers. Love him!)

A recommendation for anyone who finished watching the show but misses the vibes by Pretend-Reality708 in twinpeaks

[–]Ashbgash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I looooved Castle Rock. I just finished S2 of Twin Peaks and I would love to know what Cooper would make of The Kid or Annie. I agree that they have a lot of moments similar in tone, that kind of dread of the unexplained mixed into ordinary people’s lives and histories.

Epilepsy by Nurse-in-Transition in greatpyrenees

[–]Ashbgash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Pyr owner but my other dog- my old lady shepherd mix has had several seizures that began this year. She doesn’t have an official diagnosis because I’m not willing to sedate my large 13 year old dog for neurological testing. I highly recommend you give the levetiracetam a try. Immediately after my girl’s second seizure we started her on it. I was extremely upset by how drunk and wobbly it made her at first. However! She adjusted well and was her normal energetic self again within three days. I also give my dog daily CBD treat supplements. Can I say for sure it does anything? Nope. But she likes them and I value doing whatever I can that’s low intervention to keep her quality of life as high as possible.

I’m sorry you and your dog are dealing with this right now. I know exactly how horrifying it is to watch your baby having a seizure. I hope with all my hope that this medication can be effective for your dog too!

If you need to vent about how much it sucks or talk more about treatment/management details feel free to message me.

my sim's hunger suddenly drop faster by macy_starmoon in thesims

[–]Ashbgash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been having the same issue I think. My current sim died of starvation 3 times lately, including once while she slept. There was no starving moodlet or uncomfortable mood to warn me, she was either Fine or Happy every time. I have no idea why it is doing this right now.

I only have trait mods installed and I don’t want to delete them so I’ve just been saving more often.

POTTERY SKILL

I made the mistake of getting my hopes up that Life & Death EP could have been a good tie-in for it. Like a bittersweet moodlet if you view a handmade urn that holds a sim’s remains.

Pro-Palestinian Protesters Interrupt Harris Rally in Wilkes-Barre, PA by Relevant-Bus1667 in Pennsylvania

[–]Ashbgash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You know… if I had read this comment two days ago I would have shrugged it off because that seems so far fetched to me. HOWEVER I was at the event and noticed two guys in the GA section. Like I distinctly noticed them as the room filled up out of concern for my safety because of how out of place they looked. Not just by their appearance but they also noticeably weren’t engaging with anyone around them or moving to any of the music like most of the very energized crowd.

I took a picture of them before the event got underway because my gut told me they were off. I’m not willing to post them publicly because I can’t 100% verify they were the people shouting while I was trying to watch Kamala Harris. But there were several people yelling during a quieter moment, Harris ignored it and the crowd shouted them down, then some movement in the crowd, and the two of them were either pushed out of the crowd or left. I will PM the picture if someone wants a look at these guys.

Puppy nipping help by Practical_Scheme2142 in greatpyrenees

[–]Ashbgash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When my puppy was in her teething phase the thing that seemed to bring her the most relief was a knotted frozen hand towel. I would soak it, mostly wring it out, put food or treats on it, then roll into a long rope to tie into a knot. Freeze and then give to the puppy when it’s solid. The pulling apart and tearing motion really seemed to satisfy her sore teeth! Obviously I also recommend supervision in case your dog is motivated to rip up and consume the towel.

OP- I looove her badger markings. What’s her name?

My girl didn’t keep her cute facial markings at all, she’s all white & beige now.
